the breakfast thread

On the way to the farmers market we stopped for breakfast at a place I had eaten at once before by myself and enjoyed it. This morning one of the specials was lemon ricotta pancakes w/berries. My wife had the cinnamon vanilla French toast. Both meals were off the charts. The lemon ricotta brought me back to when my mother would make biscuits and cookies using it. She also had a very large cup of decaf mocha latte and I had some of the best coffee I’ve ever tasted.

I had a Drs appointment at 10:30a that needed to have 12 hour fasting blood tests, so I had a chocolate protein shake when I got home at noon.

Left over pasta with baked pumpkin, potatoes, mushrooms and garlic.

Breakfast sandwich and OJ. Now I'm drinking coffee while getting another blood transfusion to in the hospital outpatient infusion suites.

Bacon, egg, and Swiss on an English muffin with hot sauce. This one was fresh off of the egg muffin toaster. I love that thing. 1/2 caff on the side.

Pork roll, egg, and ketchup on a toasted, buttered, English muffin; cuppa joe, oj

I made a sausage egg and cheese on a toasted everything bagel instead of microwaving a breakfast sandwich. I have 2 Drs appointments this week and I 'll save those for when I dont have time to cook for myself.

My cat woke up while I was cooking and she got her spoonful of wet food in the morning. After she got what she wanted and ate, she went back to bed. A spoiled brat!

House cats are always on summer break.

Had this again plus a second cup of Sanka. Waiting for the family to get ready so that we can head off on an adventure.

She spent the first 4 years of her life as an outside stray and then one winter day decided that I was safe and came in to stay for the winter. During that time she apparently decided that the life of an inside cat with guaranteed food, clean water and a litter box was far preferable than being chased by dogs or run over by cars. I had cared for her mother and cared for her and her brothers as kittens so she always knew that my house (my patio) was a sanctuary with food and water for the neighborhood strays.

She still has some feral instincts ( she is afraid of most people and loud noises such as cars) but she is very much a spoiled inside cat. She has 2 bowls of dry food and gets a spoonful of wet (pate') cat food daily. Its cute that she checks on me at night by jumping up on my bed and walking around on my pillow to make sure that I dont go anywhere.

I've seen an outside cat make it to three years. I've seen an outside to inside cat make it to around 20. I brought that cat home from the playground as a kitten. Luckily, Mom and Dad gave in and said yes. In fact, we named her Lucky. She was awesome.

She is probably about 8 years old. We had a seal point siamese live to 20. That cat was my shadow growing up.

My last cats (Reese, a ginger male, Holstein a black tuxedo and Peabody a ginger tuxedo) lived to 18 before cancer and liver problems killed them. They were bothers and I adopted the litter to keep them together.

Holstein lived the longest and he and Tiglette ( my current cat) mostly ignored each other.

I also had a seal point from around age 7. She lived to be around 20, as well. She was a wonderful cat, but she was not to be messed with. I tried to stare her down once, and I'm lucky it didn't cost me an eye. She bit my face faster than a snake strike. I didn't try that again with her.

We had a German Shepard at the time and the dog was afraid of the cat. She was 12 pounds of fur, attitude and razor blades who barely permitted the dog to live in the same house as she did. The dog would cower under a table if she walked into the room.

Most people were afraid of the dog because of her size and bark, but the dog was terrified of the cat. She was supposed to be my older sisters cat but the cat decided that I was her favorite human. She slept on the pillow beside of me and stayed with me when I read or did homework.

Saturday and Sunday I cook breakfast for who ever is here. The rest of the week it's " you know where the cereal and milk are". But today is Sunday so breakfast will be sausage, bacon, orange juice, coffee and yeast raised pancakes with real maple syrup. Sadly, it is not the light amber high grade stuff that I used to buy whenever we were in Quebec. It's not even a very good third class maple syrup; it's Walmart's maple syrup, very dark and somewhat woody tasting. Sigh.

Is Wally World your only grocery store? When the grandkids were younger and they stayed over, all they wanted was pancakes and bacon for breakfast. Back then we bought organic maple syrup from Costco. Definitely worth buying.

Our Costco is intimidatingly huge. But it is worth a try.

Sautéed Zucchini, red peppers, onions, in olive oil, butter, red chili 🌶️ flakes, with eggs, in one big scramble; 1/2 toasted, buttered, English muffin, cuppa joe, V-8. God, I love breakfast.😋😋

I had my stock breakfast with a little extra coffee. I got to bed on time, but I wanted a bit of a boost for positivity.
