If you recall the scandal about the bridge to no where, this is basically the same thing, except in the form of an airport. The FAA has decreed that a $15 Million airport will be built in the city (island) of Ouzinkie. It has 150 inhabitants, and most get to Kodiak by boat, and on from that regional airport. The workers making the airport are, ironically, coming in on the so called "inadequate" airport they currently have. They've had no problem coming in on that airport.

Eat you hearts out. :)

So what is the big deal they are getting a new updated airport, but guess what so are allot of rural place thru-out the United States. While I'll agree the 15 Million sound a little high to me I don't mind this or any other Airport upgrades going on in ALska or the rest of the United States.

Many Small and Medium Size Airports are in direr need of upgrades and improvements in Runway's,ILS Systems,Fuel Tanks,Hangers and other need resource's.

The only difference is that 1. The traffic caused by the construction is presumably ( by common sense) much more numerous then the "normal" traffic, which you can alsome presume to be next to nothing.

If there was an actual need for this improvement, which currently isn't there, then I would be for this. But there is no need to use $15 Million for a town of 150 people. Thats $100,000 per person! Probably a million or so for every aircraft that comes in and out before the construction began...

I'm from the G_d Damn Country. The real Rural. I could drive 100 mph and not worry about "Cops".

150 people is not "rural" it's "BFE".

Notice the "wishlist" for the improvements was made during Governor Palin's term. :2wave:

:rofl I am going to love this spin job defense. Maybe the full court dead fish upstream the basketball hoop made her do this.

That's freaking stupid, if they want the upgrades let them finance it themselves.

They chose to live in the middle of nowhere island.

As the article says, the people don't even need it. Matt Delgado uses his boat...I'm sure the majority of the others do as well. It's as close to no where as possible.

Whats funny is you normally can't quote one person and it be representative of the whole town but in this case it's pretty close.

But, it's being paid for with porkulus money.

At her request....:doh

Well that is not very Mavericky of her now is it....must be the dead fish swimming upstream the basketball court.

Enjoy biting the hand that feeds you? Oh yeah, I forgot Dear Socialist Leader forced her to take the money and use it on something stupid.

That being said, I know that traveling in Alaska is pretty difficult. Could ice-storms/geography affect transportation in and out of the town? Is there a significance to this action? Is the town important for the national economy (do they outport anything useful)?

The only problem with travel on that island, is you need a boat. Most if not all the residents do. As for the rest of your questions: no, and definitely not.

Does the water freeze over leading to problems with using a boat? How slow is it?

No, it's salt water, and it is far south of the Bering Sea, so at the worst, there might be some ice floes. It only ices over in winter anyhow...

This is money your boy gave to them! :rofl

Get over it.

And that same money saved our entire economy, especially our financial sector, from collapse. And then some demented no-one comes along, and demands money for the most un-needed upgrades ever....and you're still stuck at the start line spouting partisan crap.

You're one to talk about getting over something

Actually let get some fact correct on this each State has a list of Airport that they must send in reports to on the coundition of siad airport to the FAA and it is the FAA who decides which airport will get funding for said projects.

While I will agree that the report was sent tot eh FAA while Mrs. Palin was in Office it's none factor in this story since the Federal Gov. requires all Airports that are listed as State or Fed. owned prop. to make a yearly statement of use and improvements that are needed.

Oh and this isn't the first time that this Airport has been listed for upgrades it has been on the FAA list for over 10 years now.

'Nuff Said.

Hey Guess what it's not the State who decide on what and how much money is going to be used on Airports that falls under the FAA. If you wish to cry about something then I suggest you go ask the FAA why they are sending 15 Million tot his Airport, but I bet you they will tell you that they have their reasons and that the Airport is/was slated for this upgrade and that is how the FAA works.

1. I can barely understand what you are saying, use spell check please, and look over your post at least once before posting it.

2. Perhaps you didn't understand what I said in the quoted post, the Alaskan Government is the group who sends out a list of "needed" improvements, and then the FAA affirms or denies their requests. I doubt the FAA has enough manpower to go checking every airport in the country, so they have to rely on the State Governments to do that work for them. I.e. the Alaskan Government is the one who sent in the list of "needed" improvements.

3. Are you in the FAA? I thought you were just some army weapons inspector who did nothing in Iraq.

Saved our economy? Have you been sleeping for the past 5 months?

Alright first off whats up with the personal attack huh must you always try to slam me on something???

Now for the rest of your post. No I'm not in the FAA my Dad was for almost 30 years and one of the many thigns he did in the FAA was do Evols of Airports that have requested funding.

While the States make the request it is the FAA that actually goes out and looks the airports over they have a list of 50 items that they check ranging from how good the runway lights system is working to the checking of the ILS and Outer Markers.

I think you really don't understand the job of the FAA you do understand that every State has at least two FAA office's located in the State and on eof them are FSDO Building which is tasked to do among many items Airport Safety and Updates.

And since we are talking about Alaska which has more Aircraft per person then any other State then yes they do check these request out and like I said this Airport has been on the list for 10 years now.
