We are in a major recession, like other states Texas is in financial trouble though not as bad as say, Michigan, New York or California. Oklahoma and Arizona habe cracked down big time on illegal immigration so many illegals are comming to Texas to work as if we didn't already have our share. Now the Texas Health and Human Services Commission has come out with a study that estimates that Texas taxpayers spent $678 million on health care for illegal immigrants in the fiscal year 2005 to 2006 (thats from Oct 1, 2005 to Sept 30, 2006) That dosn't include Education, Incarceration, and all of the other social programs illegals use. And with the growth of the illegal population here in Texas Im sure we are closer to a billon dollars a year by now.

My neighbor just lost his job after 26 years of employment and things are not looking good for many Texans. He used to work construction so he is looking for work in that field. They are turning him down because he dosn't speak spanish. Why are we paying so much for criminal illegal immigrants who shouldn't be here?

Healthcare for illegal immigrants cost the Texas government and local hospital districts $678 million in a year, according to a new study that state lawmakers hope will show the federal government how much Texas is spending in uncompensated care for illegal immigrants.

The study, by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, estimates that $597 million of the total was spent by 94 public hospitals during fiscal 2005-06.

The remainder, about $81 million, went to the state’s contribution to emergency Medicaid, which pays for emergency medical care for things such as childbirth, and to the Texas Family Violence Program, which funds shelters, 24-hour hot lines, counseling and other related services. That figure is from fiscal 2006-07.

That is complete bull****. What is it going to take for our government to do something about this? When millions of legal citizens and immigrants can barely afford healthcare, this should be something that we demand something be done about. I have so many hospital bills right now, I can't even go on. I'm pissed about this.

As a 5th generation Texan I am proud we can show, have humanity of this sort.

:rofl

Next time I need to visit the hospital, I'll go to Texas and you can show me your humanity and pay my bills. Or better yet, I'll just send my current Nebraska hospital bills to the state of Texas since I am not a legal resident of Texas and let y'all handle them. You don't mind, right?

If it is your health you are more than welcome to come here. If it is a boob job get the F out. BTW I think boob jobs could support health care here. After all everything has to be bigger in Texas:)

GAAAAAAAAGGHHH!!!! stupid RICK PERRY is killing our state! Some conservative beat him out of a primary, NOWWWW!!!

I'd say that it would take the majority of American citizens to stop being ignorant puppets and stop believing what lobby groups-- lobby groups paid for by the insurance industry, not doctors-- tell them about socialized medicine.

Not much we can do about medical care for illegal immigrants, unless we're willing to start actually leaving sick and injured people in the street to die-- but we can do something about the fact that illegal immigrants are allowed to get for free treatments that bankrupt average American families.

That's all I ask for. I am all for everyone getting equal healthcare, not just one group of people getting it.

If hospitals have to notify the authorities if someone gets a gunshot wound then why can't they notify the authorities when they treat illegals?

Apparently Texas needs their own version of Oklahoma's HB 1804 aka the Oklahoma tax payer protection act.

Its really a cascade failure issue with the focal point being Korimyr's point.

If word were to get out that immigration checks were to be performed at all county hospitals you would watch the illegal immigrant usage rate drop dramatically. Unfortunately that means more walking wounded or disease carriers. Enter lobby groups or some other sympathy group that pushes for a humane approach and tries to push legislation to legalize it for illegals. Starts the cycle all over again.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Illegals are prone to believe rumors easily. We had some guy in Houston fly around the city and then to an overpass of his company warehouse. He did it in a white and green painted helicopter (colors of the Border Patrol). Suddenly alot of illegals called in sick or just didn't show up for work. Talked with a few later about it and we all got a good laugh out of it.

Hell yeah we do.

My wife and I spend almost 4 grand last year, AFTER INSURANCE for medical related costs. We spent 12 and a half HOURS in an ER... and we had to pay. The Nurse told me most of her patients don't speak english, and never pay a penny. Yet she and I paid big $$ for that visit. And we are tax paying, law abiding, insured CITIZENS.

The system is completely flawed.

What would it cost per year to round up and deport illegals here in Texas? My guess is $678 million would just about cover it.

Not even close. Even using the cheapest, brute force methods-- methods that would include violating the rights of American citizens and legal residents alike-- it would cost more than that to round up and deport all the illegal aliens in Texas.

Not to mention, they'd only come right back in the end.

Best comment in the thread. Unfortunately, most have no clue as to the realities of this issue.

Oh, and I think it is appalling that US citizens taxes are paying for the healthcare of non-US citizens. Especially when there are plenty of US citizens that can't afford their own healthcare.

Did I say we would have to round up all illegals in one year. Five years should do it. First year purchase $678 million dollars worth of land mines and have the Texas National Guard plant them in a no mans zone along the new fence that congress approved. Every year after that spend $678 million on deportation. Do you think that after 5 years of this the criminal immigrants may get the idea that they are not wanted in Texas?

Its getting ridiculous here I was in my home town of Garland Texas last weekend. First street is approxamtly 90% mexican buisnesses. I couldn't read any of the signage on the store fronts because there all in spanish. While Im driving through I feel like Im in a foreign country and Im the only white boy in town. The crime rate in this once quite suburban city has gone through the roof. Its third world Texas You can not tell me that this happened this fast through legal immigration. These people are comming here and taking over through every illegal means possible. Its causing a lot of resentment. My daughter says the High School she gradusted from in 99 has turned into a cesspool. Iv'e had it. Im tired of paying taxes to support invaders.

Guess it's a good thing we didn't sign that landmine ban treaty, then.

Just go after anyone who hires an illegal. Big fines, jail time.. and demand citizenship proof before medical treatment (except in emergencies) and no more anchor babies!

I doubt it given how so many powerful people have an interest in preventing deporatation.

Amen, change the 14th amendment to put an end to anchor baby birthright citizenship.

In Nuevo Laredo they have an ambulance service that brings women who are in labor from the Mexican side of the river into Laredo Texas to have there babies. This has been going on for a long time. That gets them a foot in the door and the next thing you know the whole familia is moving to Texas.

Who pays for that child birth and the womans care? We do, and when she moves her family into America we have to pay for there healthcare as well.

I agree with the anchor baby modification. Not like you do but things like the ambulance service does need to be stopped!!!

I imagine that the long term cost it would be cheaper to round up and deport illegals. The almost 700 million dollars is a reoccurring cost that would probably grow larger each years as the cost of medical care and population of illegals increases.

Not to mention, they'd only come right back in the end.

That is why you enact laws that ban illegals from receiving tax payer services and you crack down on those who hire illegals. When Oklahoma enacted it's HB 1804 aka the tax payer protection act most illegals packed their **** up and left. I know this to be true because the local media sometimes does sob stories on how those poor wittle business are no longer making money off illegals , how some schools have less attendance or how some company that used to use a work force comprising mostly of illegals somehow has a hard time trying to find skilled labor.

Actually you wouldn't need to amend /changethe constitution to end anchor baby births. Change the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 that allows the chain migration of relatives other than a spouse or minor children. It still wouldn't stop birth right citizenship but it would be a lot easier than amending the constitution the children of illegals would no longer be able to facilitate the immigration of relatives other than spouse or minor children.

Anchor baby - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anchor baby or jackpot baby are terms used to refer to a child born in the United States to illegal immigrants or other non-citizens. The terms refer to the role of an illegal alien's child, as a US citizen, in facilitating chain migration under the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

I think someone needs to put sugar in those Ambulances gas tanks or maybe steak across the border and pop the tires of those ambulances if they are going across the border to facilitate illegal immigration and anchor baby births. Or perhaps you can get a petition going to stop hospitals from receiving tax payer dollars. Those people wouldn't be driving those ambulances across the border nor would those hospitals be treating illegals if someone wasn't around picking up the tab.

This is why I laugh everytime some pro-illegals try to say it is the federal government's business to deal with illegals. The federal government doesn't pay to deal with illegals, it is the tax payers in towns and cities across the country that picks up the tab on illegals.
