Sen. Ted Kennedy died shortly before midnight Tuesday at his home in Hyannis Port, Mass., at age 77.
The man known as the "liberal lion of the Senate" had fought a more than year-long battle with brain cancer, and according to his son had lived longer with the disease than his doctors expected him to.
"We've lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever," the Kennedy family said in a statement. "He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it."

ARG! Fox is doing updates every few minutes!
It reminds me of Chevy Chase's bit on Weekend Update when Generalissimo Francisco Franco died. For weeks he did updates on his condition, announcing "he's still dead."
I just hope they don't turn this into a circus like Paul Wellstone, Coretta Scott King, Michael Jackson, etc. and let the family bury him with dignity, this is a man's death, and even though I had no respect for him in life I can . . ..

does he have 50 broken needles in his body or some other freakish anomoly, it should not be a concern
but i doubt it will be carried on the news channels like Reagan, cept maybe in Massive2sh1ts
R.I.P. Ted. You are with your brothers now.
See, that's my big concern, it seems when you have certain fringe extremists in any political group, they tend to use(and I cannot choose any word more appropriately) the death of someone connected to the movement to further an agenda, I find that morbid, tasteless, and absolutely appalling, and hope this time a little class gets shown.I'd give the odds on this at about zero point zero zero one.
Watch for an aggrieved Obama to return to Washington tomorrow and make a plea (which will be described by the press as "impassioned,") for Health Care reform, "for Ted."
I think because he's a Kennedy it will be heavy coverage, which is fine, I just would rather that this time we return to a more dignified coverage, I'm getting sick of the morbid nature of celebrity/politician news coverage and when the facts run out, the speculation and third party opinions start to clutter the whole thing, then there are the loons.....ugh, they are the worst of it alldoes he have 50 broken needles in his body or some other freakish anomoly, it should not be a concern

I tend to agree, and I think the news will go on an extended feeding frenzy.Doubt it. The Kennedy's regardless of what people think of them are the closest thing America has to royalty. The fact that the last truly visible member of the family has died would make it worthy enough for them cover everything from what he'll wear to the coffin to what food they'll give the guests at the wake.
We don't believe in royalty, especially those who made it off of booze.Doubt it. The Kennedy's regardless of what people think of them are the closest thing America has to royalty.
