Cursive is the basis of the signature.

The signature is required on contracts.

I don't think we need to go back to the Old West thing of "Just put your mark on this here paper."

It would make signature matching on absentee ballot envelopes and other documents so much easier. ;)

By "cursive" if you mean my handwriting should be cursed, then yes. Whenever I sign the book at a hotel, the clerk always says, "Right this way, Miss Chicken Scratchings . . ."

Holy neco-thread! Thanks for reminding me of my conversation with beerftw, though. :p

Which explains why many young people cannot print legibly?
Right. Just like many young people in my day could not do calligraphy or even write with a quill ink pen.

Why would they? Those things were obsolete.

They are not obsolete regardless of how many times you try to repeat this.

Writing skills are important.

We will disagree.

Good luck reading historical documents. :giggle:

Should teaching how to make change be done away with also?
I don't think there is a single historical document of any import that isn't digitalized.

Teaching how to make change will eventually be done away with too. Already 9ver 90% of purchases are made electronically. Cash is becoming obsolete too. It's not there yet but it will be.

Do you read historical documents in their original print?

and when you do not have access to a computer.

I suspect you don't read hard cover or paperback books.

Writing is important. The vast majority of writing is done electronically.

The only place you can find a quill pen these days is an antique store......should they still sell them in the "school supplies" isle like they did in the past?

Things change.

I have during my college days doing research on forestry practices in the late 1800 early 1900 on tribal lands. Not so much since I have been retired.

Have looked at photo images of original documents.

Everyone has access to a computer at their local library.

and when the power goes out, then what?
Lol.

Are you really old? (No offense but sheesh) there are a wide variety of ways to charge devices. The car for example, and the battery life is long.

It's not just power. It could be do to man made or natural disasters.

When a Navy ships gets damaged, the messenger of the fire party might be the only form of communication between "DC central" and the "On Scene Leader"

You do realize that everyone learns to print, right?

Guess some just want people to print when they write.
