Teaching communism in public schools

Holy ****ing ****. Say it aint so! A ****ing school board adopted standards! I mean all school boards do the exact ****ing same thing, does this mean all schools are ****ing "communist"?

Take away here, a big loss to the world in bi-products of oil.................... and a HUGE increase in the cost of Living, to Every American......... and the rest of the world!

Buffoons on the Left harp on Big Oil....well Big Oil makes the world go round.....starting with all plastics.

People bitching about this seem to have no idea how many bi-products are made from petroleum. Green is good...oil is better in many ways.

So we shouldnt teach about global warming because of oil.... :doh

Yes, there was a big uproar from parents, not reflected in the above statement. And for the record, I fully agree with the article.

I think you may misunderstand something. All the stuff that Holly Swanson quoted was from the presentation and brief submitted to the board by a parent group.

The School Board did not adopt the language of that presentation.

What they did do is: 1) Thank the parent-group, which is pretty standard no matter how crazy the presentation was. 2) They agreed that students should learn about climate change. 3) They agreed to abandon any books that express skepticism about the human causes of climate change. What the board did not do (I repeat) is adopt any of the language in the presentation, or make any directives that children should be molded into warriors for social justice or taught that goods should be distributed equally.

Look, anyone is free to present anything they want to a school board, and the school board doesn't have any control over what is presented--any more than you have control over what is posted in this thread. You (and Ms. Swanson) seem to be confusing what was presented to the board with what the board adopted. Imagine if you were accused of personally believing anything that anyone posts to this thread--that would be treating you just as you seem to be treating the school board in this case.

For the record, while I do believe human beings are causing climate change, I do not agree that we should eliminate teaching about skepticism entirely. That does seem to amount to brainwashing. However, the board does not seem to have adopted any of the social-justice/redistribution-of-goods rhetoric that figures into the parent presentation. No one is brainwashing children to be communists, at least not in Portland.

How many public school teachers (or what percentage of them) belong to a labor union?

That is not to say necessarily that they are all conspiring to brainwash children to embrace communism, but it is the case that a rather huge percentage of them belong to an organization that embodies communistic tenets and attitudes.

“The object of the labor movement is to increase the strength of the proletariat to the point at which it can conquer the organized force of the bourgeoisie and thus establish its own supremacy.” -Anton Pannekoek

Portland Public Schools, the largest school district in Oregon, passed a Resolution on April 19, 2016 that ought to be called ‘How to brainwash 49,000 students and force teachers to teach communism’.

The objectives laid out in this Resolution are startling, revealing and directly aligned with the Green movement’s national plan, now underway, to politically indoctrinate America’s children.

The Portland Public Schools (PPS) Resolution No. 5272 is a “Resolution to Develop an Implementation Plan for Climate Literacy”. This Resolution gained national attention for banning books that question the validity of global warming claims. The Resolution states:

“PPS will abandon the use of any adopted text material that is found to express doubt about the severity of the climate crisis or its root in human activities.”

Another BS thread.

That makes sense. You do know that there's no doubt in the world about climate change, right? The only group of people in the entire world who doubt its existence is a group of far right people in the United States.

This is no different than schools banning books that speak of the falsehood of gravity or clouds involved in creating rain. Science is science. Facts are facts. Reality is reality.

The school doesn't seem to be banning references to discussions about to what degree this or that contributes to climate change, and discussions about what things may most help the climate change problem. Those are legitimate discussions, IMO.

I don't know if its teaching communism, but is certainly is a 1st amendment violation. Looks like liberals have taken a page from the church, ... Let the book burning begin!

No, it's not. Not teaching children falsehoods is not a 1st amendment violation. There is no doubt in the world that climate change exists and that different things contribute to it. No doubt whatsoever.

Now, they could have books speaking of climate change as if it doesn't exist as examples of failure to face reality or failure to believe scientifically proven facts, much the same way as books that speak of the Holocaust as not having occurred, or that we never went to the moon, and the like.

Actually that is not true, there is much that is still not understood, but I tend to believe the science. I don't think it is beyond skepticism at this point.

Freedom of speech. The source is not indisputable regardless of what you think.

Could you cite us the section of the Communist Manifesto, or Das Kapital where it discusses the role of Climate Literacy in the proletarian revolution?

This is nothing that the liberals haven't been doing for years and, let's be honest, the religious indoctrinate children in their own schools the same way. Brainwashing the young is nothing new. Everyone tries it.

No-one has been stopped from freely expressing doubt about climate science. No books have been burned. No books have even been banned, far as I can see. How many times is this exact same over-emotional partisan rhetoric going to keep fooling people? We must have had this kind of thread at least umpt times before! Drugs are banned in schools; that means they're not allowed, and students in possession get punished.

Deciding not to explicitly introduce books to a captive audience as part of a school curriculum is not the same thing as banning

It seems some dunderheads are proud of their ignorance.

Climate change is indisputable, yes. In the whole world of groups of people, there is only one that has its head in the sand: a group of far right people in the United States. This is really settled science.

If you do some digging on the subject, you will find this out. Read something other than partisan articles on the subject. You won't get the facts (reality) from those.

Climate change is as settled as gravity and the Holocaust having existed (there are also people who don't believe the Holocaust happened - they are far right people in America, also). Reality is reality. We teach reality in schools.
