Stupidity from Northern Ireland cancelling Garth Brooks

Five sold out shows--Dublin only wants to allow three--now they will lose $68 million--

BBC News - Garth Brooks Dublin concerts matinee plan 'not feasible'

Garth Brooks.. had to look up who the hell that was. And that only makes this story even more strange. How the hell does a US country western singer sell out one show let alone 5 in freaking Ireland?

They state that 400k tickets will be refunded.. what the f... this makes zero sense.

Lets look at this in perspective with other more well known stars.

U2, had a tour in 2009-11, 110 shows world wide, 7.2 million people which makes that an average of 66k per show. This is U2.. someone who is far more popular and well known.

So you are telling me that Garth Brooks, a pretty unknown singer outside the US, will sell 400k tickets for 5 shows in one country... thats 80k per show.. ??????? I know the Irish can be strange, but come on..

No what this smells like is, is a so called "star" on a comeback tour that is not selling enough tickets, so he needs a way out and stages this crap.

U-who?
The tickets for over 400,000 Garth Brooks fans are already sold out.
And please don't diminish how well known brother Garth is, especially in our Southern states.
I admire a man who would take 13 years off at his prime to raise his daughters until they are in college .

I like some of his music but always thought he was personally an ego maniac. Most stars are, but his concerts and interviews have that weird "Lady GaGa", over the top feeling. Too much fame, too quickly seems to make people go nuts, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Kardashians etc.

Yes so he says.. kinda stupid when you dont have the permits..

This is freaking Ireland not your Southern States. You do know that there are only 6.3 million people in Ireland right? So 8ish% of the population bought tickets for this concert? Sure there can be some coming from the UK as well I guess, but still.. he is a country star and he is selling 5 concerts with 80k people in Europe..most music stars struggle to do that anywhere in Europe at one venue for 5 days. My point is, it is hella rare that a band/singer sells 5 concerts out at the same venue in the same city in the large countries, and here we have a small country, in a small city (no offence Dublin) and he some how sells out 5 concerts, when other main stream bands and singers cant? Makes no sense.

But looking at the way they wanted to conduct these concerts, then I understand the issue. Only 2 hours between the day and night concert, which is not a lot considering you need 160k people in and out of a stadium and area around that stadium plus clean up. Just saying.

I admire a man who would take 13 years off at his prime to raise his daughters until they are in college .

Good for him, but irrelevant.

You seem to forget that Great Britain, which includes Northern Ireland, tried to help our Southern brothers win the Civil War.

Shows how captivating our old CW stars are--lately CW seems to be about burned-out rockers like the Doobies.

completely relevant--CW fans are starved for Garth--having not seen him for 13 years-
besides, those good Catholics appreciate Garth giving up his career to raise his children--so do I -

He's got friends in low places. <):~)
Even Europe.

Dublin is not Northern Ireland.

It's this popular because they're his only gigs in Europe.

The organisers did not consult the council and residents weren't happy. The compromise was 5 concerts over three days ( two matinees). He refused. What else can be said?

Three things

1) bluegrass music and Irish music have a lot in common so I don't think it's odd that so many Irish like his music

2) Garth Brooks is incredibly successful and well known. He is not a "so called star"; He's a genuine superstar

3) I don't like his music. It's watered down pop music with a twang

Ha! Definitely got the A Team working on this one:

"The Mexican ambassador contacted me yesterday and he offered his services at a diplomatic level if he could be any help," he told Irish broadcaster RTÉ.

"I had a group of residents from Ballybough who said they intend to call Barack Obama to try to encourage Garth Brooks to play in Dublin."
