Remove the status, yes. Public statues are monuments of honor. That's why it's called a memorial. We should not be honoring traitors who deflected for the explicit reason that they believed the African race was inferior. I am tired of people denying this: they put it right in their official decrees, in the archaic version of those exact words. This is not conjecture, this is not a historical guess, it is a fact stated EXPLICITLY by Confederate leaders.

Remove the informational markers, no. The Civil War itself is an important event in American history that we all should be educated about. Informational plaques are useful, and actually have a defensible purpose to exist in public spaces.
The problem is too many people are over reacting to the symptoms of a deeper problem, while ignoring the deeper problem. The deeper problem is the Democratic party was the party of slavery. The Democratic party started the Civil War, leading to hundreds of thousands of deaths, it invented the rebel flag, the KKK, segregation laws, lynch mobs and hangings, Jim Crow laws. It also created and funded many of the statues and monuments that are now in question. The question should be, doesn't it make more sense to deal with the source of the cancer instead all superficial symptoms. This can be done by getting rid of the Democratic party name. That name is the worse symbol of slavery and hate, since all the shallow and the deeper things can be traced to that name and what it stood for.
The approach of the left is like ignoring Jack the Ripper, while we taking out your frustration for the past on his knife. The anger will never be appeased because it does not address the real source of all the problem; brains behind the knife.
I am not saying to get rid of the Democratic party in terms of its members. Rather, it is time to rename the party and make a clean break from all the atrocities that name stood for. Of all the major world political parties that once preached slavery and segregation, the Democratic party name is the last major hold out name from that troubled past. They won't get rid of the name because many still honor that past but can't say so.
What seems to be happening is the Democratic party is attempting to hide its shady history from culture by removing symbols. It also tries to put the blame on the Republicans who were the party of Lincoln, who set up the underground railroad and the NAACP. It is setting up misdirect to avoid this needed step.
A new poll should be, what should the new name for the Democratic party be, so we can put to the old name to rest, that is a symbol of all the hatefulness of the slavery and segregation era? That old name is a symbol of human atrocity.
The bigger question is, why is this all of a sudden such a problem? Why wasn't it an issue during the eight years of the Obama admin? :roll:

One of the gubernatorial candidates is calling for the removal of Confederate statues and monuments from around the state, including Stone Mountain’s Civil War carving.
The Democratic party front-runner for governor, Stacy Abrams, said the carving of three Confederate leaders at Stone Mountain, which is designated by state law as an official Confederate memorial site, should be removed.
“It is 2017, and now is the time for us to have a conversation about removing the last vestiges of that type of hatred and that type of vitriol toward minority communities in Georgia,” Abrams told Channel 2’s Richard Elliot.

No...they are not always memorials of honor. In most cases they are historical markers. In Germany, in the 1970s, I visited the Dachau Concentration camp which still stands as a museum and memorial.....not the honor the Nazis, but to make sure nobody forgets what took place. it would especially be an insult to jewish people around the world to wipe it off the map.

What you are tired of, simply does not matter. Not every foot soldier fought for the sake of slavery. Most could not afford slaves, which were expensive and only aristrocrats could afford. War is a very nasty business. Many southerners joined the fight after their farms or homes were burned down by advancing Union troops.
And you can call them traitors all you like, however keep in mind that all who fought for independence in the American Revolutionary War were also considered traitors by those who wanted to remain subjects of the British monarchy. The civil war occurred when this nation was less then 100 years old. It settled the issues of succession and slavery. There a succession movement in California. One poll suggests that as many as one third of Californians want to break away from the Union. Are they traitors as well?

Why the obsession by the left today over monuments representing the civil war which took place over 150 years ago? Most do not glorify slavery. They are simply historical markers of a horrible war that took place roughly 152 years ago. In my county, there are two civil war forts and one replica of a civil war fort. They are all top tourist attractions. Should we tear those down? There are also annual civil war battle re-enactments, mostly involving the battle of Gettysburg, which was a big victory for Union Troops. the reenactments are 100% historically accurate.
I would add that the democrat party today still supports slavery...under a different definition: "Dependence on Entitlements". Their favorite constituency is "poverty stricken, uneducated, and dependent on government assistance. That is why they are in such a hurry for a comprehensive immigration bill.
We keep getting told that these monuments, statues normally, can be placed in a proper place, and museums are offered as a proper place. Are those people sincere?

The monuments of the Confederacy should allowed to be seen forever. some are enduring works of art. They are 'lightning in
a bottle' History and not an earmark for the the hysterical SJW of the progressive left. Even the blacks by 44 to 40
say 'let them stand.'
We should also burn all the churches. I mean, those good Protestants did condone slavery. Enabled it, really.
