South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declares emergency martial law

Are you willing to give SK to Kim?

Kim can't even feed his own soldiers let alone his people. Meanwhile, with our help, S Korea is routinely in the top 5 strongest militaries in the world.

I have no idea who os telling the truth and who is lying over there. My point is that given our presence there I would think our gov knows exactly what is going on there and won't let it get out of hand.
It's already out of hand, the time for us to intervene was before martial law was declared, but we may have just tried and failed.

If our Intelligence there wasn't good enough to let Biden know before this happened so he could have at least made a final hour phone call to try and avert this, then why the hell do we even have a CIA.

For all I know that intel was passed to Biden and Biden did make that call, so I'm reserving judgment in light of I am not privy to all the facts that Biden is.

The safety and security of our people over there is of the paramount importance, and we don't want to signal to N Korea that now would be a good time for them to pull some shit.

In light of everything else going on in the world, this is really the last thing we needed. Someone is playing puppet master, I don't know if it's Russia, China, Iran, N Korea, likely all of the above.

I saw this one coming, not the coup but the destabilizing of S. Korea by some means.

The next move is likely to be in the Taiwan Straights, South China Sea, or Sea of Japan.

We are not on the top of our game right now, we are being reactionary's rather than proactive. Our enemies see weakness, and they are trying to spread our forces thin while creating discord and among the US people and our allies abroad, and they are doing a pretty good job of it.

We better get on the top of our game, and do it quick, before the whole damned world blows up in our face.

WAPO is reporting the military said martial law remains until Yoon ends it.
Yeah I don't think it is technically over. I think they just put it to rest until tomorrow hoping cooler heads prevail. No media outlets are getting locked down so that looks like it isn't progressing like most authoritarian moves.

😂

Such bullshit.

Not bullshit given current trends

SK birth rate is below 0.8. Meaning less than one child per woman on average. A sure way to an aging and declining population.

Sk has the lowest birth rate in the world I believe

Mechanized grandpa's on the battlefield. Interesting theory.

Not that way, a bunch of Star craft crazied 20 year Olds controlling a bunch of drones from the comfort of a chair 200 miles from the front

Current trends will not prevail. They will adjust. They are just experiencing late stage capitalism which discourages family planning. I'm betting they'll toss that shit aside eventually.

The SK government has spent 260 billion ( I assume USD ) since 2006 in attempts to increase the birth rate. With little to no success

Japan and China face the same sort of issue

The declining influence of the United States under Biden's Presidency.

We all saw this coming, since his Afghanistan withdrawal. He has let the world destabilize around us, in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

It's a serious problem. I read an article this week that SK population could drop to a third by the end of the century.

It's a cultural shift. Women are resisting the traditional roles and getting married later, or not at all.

Do you expect current trends to prevail or do you think they will adjust?

To change birth rates will require a significant change in the country, Economically and culturally.

So yes it will likely change but at a crisis point, which will of course require 25 years to see the effects of

You might want to check their demographics; it's already too late. They needed to toss it aside twenty five years ago; like half their population is over 40, and their population is on track to halve in a few decades. It's not reversible, not this century.

Wow! Next thing you know SK will have people invading their govt buildings to try and stop an election like real 3rd world countries. What the president really needs is a tame supreme court to give him and his henchmen immunity from prosecution so he doesn't have to worry about pesky things like laws.

It's more than just Biden, this has been going on for some time. H.W. was the last President that was qualified.

We voted for unqualified guys over and over and this is the results of it.

All is not lost, I'm not saying that, but we really need to get our heads out of our collective asses, and I include me in that.

Let's not wait for this thing to blow up into a world wide conflict before we wake the sleeping giant. Meaning it's time for us to all be Americans and show the world we will not be divided in the face of our enemies.

We really need a summit right now between the world's major players to seen if we can calm things down and pull back from these forces driving conflicts rather than resolving them. If nothing else that summit would tell us who our enemies truly are.

Oh.

They won't have any twenty year olds, unfortunately. Like 1/2 of what they have now?

But plenty of 70 year olds.

It's almost like we won the cold war, and decided we didn't need to put boots on the ground in every country to fight against communism, because we beat it, and have been slowly backing away from single handedly shaping the entire planet by ourselves.

Some would see letting more countries decide their own fate as a good thing. Not everyone agrees, obviously

That one blindsided me. I was just in Seoul over the weekend. Place was lively, tourists abounded, no sign of trouble and while my friends there thought the president was a tool, there was no inkling that he'd do this sort of thing.
