It's described as about an important topic but not a very good movie, the New York Times said the real-life agent is accused of exaggerating his rescue operations. The movie reminds me of those social media posts around 2019/2020, at least from what I've heard of it, and it looks like it is going to start up those ridiculous, fearmongering posts all over or similar ones.

The problem is that things like this give people poor info or information that is out of context.

For example, the memes/posts stating "800k kids are reported missing every year in the US". That actually is a fact. However, the problem is that well over 90% of those reported missing are back with their parents or guardians within 48 hours and they are most likely just either hiding from their parents, temporary runaways (just mad and willing to come back), and most of those who are actually kidnapped have been taken by their parents or other relatives.

Less than 350 child abductions by strangers in this country occur each year and the vast majority of those are not going to be child trafficking. They are still going to be for more nefarious reasons, and certainly not something good, but they aren't likely to be child traffickers.

The info they put out is fearmongering, it gets people riled up to do stupid things, to believe in these stupid conspiracy theories. This is what led to those stupid claims about Wayfair selling kids or enabling child trafficking.

What is the seismic shift? I get that it is a movie about child sex trafficking, but what is the debate?

It's a QAnon movie that buys into all the QANon conspiracy theories. And there is actually different kinds of debacles around it. One is a conspiracy theory that the theatres are trying to stop fans from seeing the movie, which is bs. If a theater is screening a film, they want people to see it because of money. But it seems like the conspiracy comes from people failing to get tickets to the film because the film is "sold out" despite the theatres not being full. This has nothing to do with the theatres trying to stop fans though. It's because some rich QAnon people has just bought all the seats for several showings. Then there is another stupid conspiracy theory that the theatres are spiking the drinks of people who goes to see the movie with nanobots. Then there are conspiracy theories that the theatres randomly cancel showings, just based on a few incidents where they did cancel a showing because the air conditioner did not work. The QAnon people just loves their conspiracies.
