Howdy folks, I'm Eric. I'm 31. I'm a Firefighter from Northern California.

I've been lurking around these parts for a couple of weeks now, just reading threads and 'liking' stuff. Couple of posts here and there. Starting to get a feel for some of the characters that post here, and an idea of where I fit in... kinda. Anyway, it's a nice site, and generally the people here all seem to have functioning brainstems, which is good.

Honestly, I'll probably continue to lurk more than I post. My taste for "debating" on the internet has waned pretty dramatically over time. It's all just so... so... exhausting. But for some reason I can't stop wanting to read it, heh. But no doubt I'll be chiming in from time to time, when unable to help myself.

Anyway, just figured it was about time I said hi :2wave:

Welcome, Eric. Hope y'all get those wildfires under control up there. Lots of beautiful California Redwoods up there.

Nice avatar, too. Always liked Daffy. He has the same short fuse I do.

Thanks for the (very) warm welcome, guys and gals. See ya 'round the water cooler.

So, I'm 31 just signed up, and am rather disappointed by the debates here. Its as if most posters are going to yahoo, and pulling the stories off the front page.

Am i in the wrong web site if I want to discuss Trapwire, the LIBOR scandal, NSA Whistle blowers, The false left vs right paradigm, Capitol allocation and how the swaps market and derivatives create incentive for bankers to bet on on-line gaming instead of investing in small and emerging business?

Any Dylan Ratigan fans in here, or am I a Tin-foiler on this site?

You could have some great discussions with donsutherland1. He's the best guy here for economic discussions.

Nah, you're in the right place.

Ive seen most if not all of those discussed here.

Good crowd. Good mix. Good moderation. No overt bias.

Just be cool, read the rules so you'll know whats up if the mods issue a warning.

You"ll probably like it here, most people do.

It will be an adjustment for me here, I just left a no holds barred, flame war based political chat board. I read the rules, and actually look forward to more civil debate.

Just remember to attack the argument, not the poster and you should do well. My only caution is that before you post a new thread, especially in the "In The News" group of forums, carefully read the rules in each of those forums regarding acceptable sources and titles matching the links title. That seems to trip up excited noobies. ;)

The mods here are good and usually give in thread warnings if things get heated before handing out infractions.

Be aware of the little quoted numbers after the thread title whoch indicate warnings are in place.

Its really not bad or cloying or anything.

So interesting! Anyway, welcome to the forum! I am also new here. Glad to meet you! ;)

Welcome to DebatePolitics! Normally, this is where I'd say I'm looking forward to crossing swords with you, but since we've already danced... well, I'll say instead that I am looking forward to next time.

Hope you enjoy your time here.

This place is kinda frustrating. The discussions are great, but it's just so big and there are so many people posting all day, it's impossible to keep up, ya know?

I might be in a heated debate with someone, then find myself unable to post for a day because I'm busy, and when I come back the thread has grown by like 20 pages! It's like a full-timer job to try and stay involved in even one thread, let alone several at once. Hell, I can't even remember which threads on which boards I've posted in, lol. Unless someone quotes me to respond and I get a notification, this is hard!

I like this place though, and I know these aren't really problems that can or should be "fixed". Just venting... ;)
