Solar Flares to Continue Pounding Earth Until 2014 - US News and World Report

What are the chances of "the big one" hitting us and all technology is disabled? No tv, no pc, no atm machine, no cash register, no cars. Then what?
An apocolypse doesn't have to be a disease or a war. It could be from within our own country, crippling what we all take for granted. How will you keep your food cold with no power? Are you prepared for such a thing?
 
It scares the bejesus out of me, to be honest. Not for me. I can survive on little. I worry about my kids. (Dogs). I can imagine what families would feel like worrying about their children.
 
It's possible but I'm not holding my breath or anything.

Then nothing, we will pray and do our best.
Some old-fashioned ways may also help, like cooking on fire, writing with pan and paper, hand labour skills, etc.
But to tell you the truth, I would rather pass away.

I'm saying this only because this word is a title of an important work of music by my favorite composer.
 
On a sufficient timescale, the chances are approximately 100%
 
The electric utilities could insulate the larger high voltage transformers against solar flare emp's but they have no plans to because of costs. It's a game of odds and though it's not likely it is possible. I wouldn't worry because it won't change anything.
 
We could use a few months without power to help the Earth heal a little bit. I hope the flares fry the entire power grid the same way they fried the telegraph lines in the 1850s.

Let's see no fresh water, no fresh food and economic collapse. Yeah that would heal us all from life.
 
Not that long ago..the entire world survived and lived without electricity and indoor plumbing. Most humans would adapt...some couldnt
