Socialism and Capitalism. Let us learn about each other.

If it truly is more conservative how come liberals claim to be more educated? You just try to prove it is more conservative.

QUOTE=Comrade Brian]Why do capitalist leaders claim they're spreading democracy if they're really spreading republics?

Because the majority of the unwashed masses can only understand such. Too busy watching American Idol. Look at how many on this site call our government a democracy. If leaders said "spread republics" the masses would think "spread the Republican Party". Way to think for yourself Junior.

While I admire the spirit in which this thread is posted, I find the underlying premise---socialism vs. capitalism---to be misguided. These two systems are always, and wrongly, pitted against each other, as if they are mutually exclusive. The fact is that neither system has existed in a pure form, and most economies, especially the most prosperous ones, employ a mixture of capitalism and socialism. Capitalism would not have survived its early harsh development without socialism to smooth out its rough edges. Some things are best handled by capitalist entrepreneurship, and others by socialistic collectivism. It's like a recipe, the trick is knowing how much of each to put into the mix.

Unfortunately, what we have today in the U.S. is an oxymoronic situation that can only be called socialistic capitalism, where corporate profits are privatized, while their risk is socialized. Corporate CEOs get golden parachutes; workers get golden showers. It's like a casino, where the high rollers, who are in cahoots with the owners, get to keep their winnings, but their losses are recouped from the dealers tip jar.

exactly, look at china, once "communist," its gaining more prosperity and growth with incorporation of free market policies in the economy.

It seems to me the choice is between two flawed systems, competition and inequality or equality by force(charity by government edict) that undermines free agency. A system that is free and transparent is the best we can hope for and individuals and groups in a pluralistic society can freely choose either to live by competition or consecration(those who have more than their needs freely giving their extra resources to lift the poor.) How can mankind grow spiritually and attain the attribute of charity by force or competition?

And it looks like they've found a way to use the worst parts of both systems.

Socialism is a pipe dream. A wonderful world where everyone gives to the common good, and thus, derives mutual success from the common wealth.

The reason socialism will not work is simple. There is no incentive to go above and beyond. In fact, there is no incentive to work whatsoever. Why would I break my back every day to put money into the community coffers, when my neighbor is living on welfare and making the same amount of money I am? But most importantly, socialism denies humans a fundamental impulse that drives them to succeed. It is the desire to be a success, and through that success to raise themselves above their peers and to be recognize for their accomplishments.

Socialism always fails. It fails because in order to disperse and organize all the programs, you need a government. A hierarchy, which by its very nature puts some individuals above others. This goes against the basic principles of socialism. Eventually, those in power, cannot deliver on the promises made to the people, and in order to maintain control, socialism collapses into communism, and that ultimately collapses into dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from great courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependency back again to bondage."

-- Sir Alex Fraser Tyler

I believe socialism falls somewhere between apathy and dependence. It is designed for a people who no longer want to accept personal responsibility, choosing rather to yield their life’s success or failure to the whole of society. The individual becomes dependant on his neighbor to support him. Eventually, the society collapses, and those in power seek to keep it, ultimately placing the people they once served into bondage in order to maintain stability.

Guess what you reds. (Not you son, just using you as a segway to bother the reds) ol teacher sold a job today. Two months work at least. I work for myself so don't say I exploit anyone. I will make a family safer and more secure. Get paid fat and work how I want to. If I want to go to the beach or shoot pool and drink beer all day all I have to do is call in to.....myself. Were in your little Stalin/Marx/Lenin/Gorbi saliva swapping love fest can you find that. Capitalism rules.

Capitalism is cool for you and the minority. Most of the world lives in poverty. Does that rule?

This is classic liberalism. A belief that the redistribution of wealth will solve the worlds wows. I cannot understand those that favor socialism. Human nature dictates that socialism (in a pure form) cannot succeed. It has been tried and tested in as many ways as I can think of throughout history. And every time it fails to fulfill the promises it makes to its people. One of you socialist nut jobs name me a time in recent history (lets say the last 500 years) when socialism created a successful utopian society. I really would like to research it if you have one. For me, I cannot see how you could make it work.

I’ll tell you this much though. Those of you, who sit around criticizing us for creating a society that has been successful in bringing the greatest amount of prosperity to its people the world has ever seen, need to take a hard look at your argument. Even our “dirt poor” live better than the average citizen of a failed socialist state. We are the greatest nation on earth precisely because we value, and apply merit to personal responsibility. This is exactly the opposite of what socialism does.

What are you trying to say here josh? Should I flog myself and eat glass. I might have to hire someone. I would pay him more than I was ever paid to do the same thing. I work, hard, long, and smart. I offer a service that makes people safer and more secure. I keep people from dying. If I could do something for the rest of the world I would. Actually I do. With my high taxes. So you begrudge me the fruits of my labor? I'm VERY good at what I do. I know stuff. Go read "9/11 was an inside job" starting at #103. Tip-o-the-iceberg. That thinking it why I am. Why do you have a problem with that? So I shouldn't use myself as a living example why communism and socialism are.....sub par? I was born here. Should I give up all and plant rice in a hungry nation. No. My point is capitalism rules. Export it and watch world poverty go away. I had the same schooling as the rest of America. I would ask, what's their problem? And don't claim I'm "fortunate". I've had things happen to me in my life that are the worst that can EVER happen to a person. I pulled through. And you know what josh? I've told this story before on this site and one guy was motivated by my words. I mean, what josh, what? How about you quit pulling yourself down bemoaning my life and bring yourself up?
