Irish born David O Connell was a pillar of the community in South Los Ángeles, my wife told me about this story today and her social circles are buzzing about this, O’Connell was a long time priest in some of the worst parts of LA and became a Bishop seven years ago.

According to ABC7

Devastated parishioners gathered by the crime scene Saturday as deputies investigated.

"It broke me and I was scared to tell my wife because my wife loved him so much," said parishioner Johnny Flores.

Glendy Perez, another parishioner, said O'Connell "was an humble soul."

"He was not the type that would have confrontations with nobody," she said. "He was very loving, and he had like a gift of healing. When you would attend his ceremonies, it was like a gift of healing."

O Connell came to LA from Ireland shortly after his ordination, probably among the last waves of the “FBI” (foreign born Irish) priests. He started ministry in 1979.

Investigators have ruled out suicide and are investigating as a murder

Lover's tiff gone wrong?
I doubt it.

I will be following the investigation.

Most of LA’s elite from the mayor on down have already commented on the crime

I always say that any of us (or our families) could be next.

Didn't really think about friends.

Sorry for your loss--I hope they catch the person who did this so the community can have closure. This is just awful :(

I never knew him and only recently moved, but my wife had met him and most of her friends had, he was very well known and loved in the area he served

It was a gay lover tiff and he was a follower of Trump so he was upset that his gayness would be discovered by Trump and he would be disowned by the false god messiah Trump.

I'm sorry to hear this. Sounds like he was a good man.

I know you said you would be following this; I'm hoping they catch the person and they find out the reason why.

Just like you do in every thread about an innocent black man being murdered, I'm going to make wild assumptions that make this seem justified:

He was probably a pedo that touched a bunch of kids, and one of those kids grew up and finally got his revenge. The priest was also almost certainly on drugs when he was murdered. Just another dead, pedo, addict.

I don't think this is the place for your snark. Sounds like he was a faithful soldier of God. He deserves more respect than that.

Mere platitude.

My question is not sarcastic. Try answering it. Or not. Either way, something will be learned.
Platitude? I think not.

Considering how well regarded the man was in the community, I doubt if he disrespected any man's death. So to me, it makes no sense to visit your anger at bigots on him.

Ugh, it's so hard when friends or family are murdered. It's a lot different than just a natural death as it traumatizes all around it. I've had a close friend be the victim of a murder and the trial went on for years and years. It's grueling.

Hopefully they get to the bottom of it and it's not left unsolved. America is seeing this way too often. Regardless of if the person was doing what others think was a bad thing, it still a human being and it still affects their friends and family the same.

America needs to get a handle on all these gun crimes. Society has had enough. Way too much death, not worth the hobby.

Indeed. We aren't right-wingers talking about Pelosi's husband. We're better than that.

Every single one of the extrajudicially executed black men deserves that respect.

You mean like George Floyd? Mike Brown? Dumb Duante? Those "executed black men"?

LOL. No they dont deserve respect, they were low lives. Get it straight fella.

When did the Pope start posting here?

Lover's tiff gone wrong?
Could be.

That, or some abused child grew up and got a gun, and revenge on a pedophile priest, or maybe a parent did?

Or it could just have been a simple home invasion gone really bad for the bishop?

Whatever it was, it is just more ACCEPTABLE COLLATERAL DAMAGE.

Sure. But @RabidAlpaca wasn't visiting anything on a dead priest. He was making a very salient point about a nasty little fascist in these forums.

That wasn't a home invasion. It was a targeted murder. What did he do?

Guess the Catholics have given up that entire “poverty” vows thing?

Husband of the Bishop’s housekeeper was arrested…and apparently overheard saying the the Bishop owed him money.

There will be more to this story.
