Slavery is back (1 Viewer)

Income Taxes are slavery.

*yawn*
Actually regressive taxes like tariffs are slavery. The rich trying to keep the people poor and hungry so they are afraid to complain.

I don't think it's a fake video. Those guys aren't picking anything. They're turning the soil. None of those bushes even have flowers.

Aside from that, Somehow the penal loophole makes it as close to slavery as it gets.

Except the poor in America are already over-represented in obesity.

I hope Canada and Europe ban US cotton for forced slave labor
Is all work done by people in prisons 'slavery' iyo? This seems to be a requirement everywhere.

No shit.

Not shit.

AI? Fake? Letting the prisoners out for a walk? What are you going to go with?

This was some random video someone applied a lying narrative and you took their bait.

You got suckered.

No one is picking cotton.

Cotton is not harvested by people. It's done by machines.

The video is BS.
Several other Southern states also operate sprawling penal farms on former slave plantations. Modern equipment is typically used to tend and harvest row crops that are sometimes sold on the open market and exported, even though the U.S. bans the import of goods made with prison labor overseas. But in some places, like Louisiana’s penitentiary, rudimentary tools and prisoners’ bare hands are used to harvest fruits and vegetables that feed inmates.

“If we can get similar rulings here in Arkansas, that’ll be a blessing,” said Kaleem Nazeem, an organizer at that state’s grassroots coalition decARcerate. He spent 28 years behind bars and said he was routinely sent to solitary confinement for refusing to join the rows of men forced to pick cotton, scenes he compared to ones from “Roots,” Alex Haley’s harrowing book, and later miniseries, about slavery.

“The general public doesn’t know the history of the land,” he said, “because we, as a society, have chosen to become practiced at turning our heads.”

Some using a hoe to pick cotton?
In compliance with the U.S. Constitution, 13th amendment.

I would say working where the job is generating a profit and the work is unpaid it would be slavery

If the work was general upkeep of the prison, or community work like cleaning litter no

Explain it then. The burden is now on you and you aren't able to carry your own weight. I simply ask you to prove your point and you can't. Although it was cute that you out of the gate pretended to know cotton farming because you saw a harvest season picture.

Thanks for expressing your opinion so clearly.

I don't care if you think "slavery is back". The video obviously shows nothing of the sort.

Guess what, I don't have to prove shit to YOU!

Awesome work America. We've Jim Crowed our way back into slavery using the prison system of course.

Can't watch the video currently, can you summarize? What does it actually show?

I would point out that convicted prisoners don't have the same rights, they do get paid by the prisons usually but that is fairly minimum. Does the video point to how it proves they are not paid?

You said Jim Crow, are they all black?

Of course you don't. There's no laws in place for that. I'm just here to watch you continuing to trash your own credibility. Not had any left to trash but... Still fun to watch.

The first clause of my model state constitution reads as follows:

§ 1. [All persons born free; their natural rights; slavery prohibited]

That all persons are born equally free and independent, and have certain natural, inherent, and unalienable rights, among which are the enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing and protecting property, and pursuing and obtaining happiness and safety; therefore neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exist, nor shall slavery or involuntary servitude be adjudged as a criminal penalty. However, this section shall not be construed as to limit or prohibit prison labor, provided that prisoners be remunerated no less than twenty five percent of the Federal minimum wage for all hours worked and that no prisoner be compelled to labor more than forty hours in a week.

Literally the first provision of the model Constitution. (Which I wrote in response to the generally shitty Constitutions the vast majority of State's have.)

So what are you arguing? Those people are CGI?

He's been deflecting since he got here. He has no argument and as he stated to me in post #39, by God he doesn't have to back up anything he says!

😂

I like to push right wingers to continue to defend their horrible positions as much as possible, so everyone can see who they are. The lengths this guy will go to in order to defend forced prison labor really says everything we need to know about him.

Same. Pretty much what I stated in post #41.

Link is busted (at least, for me).

But yeah, that's not news. That's been the case since the Civil War ended.
