Site slow

Having some problems logging in. Login is slow and hinky at times.

Loading alerts and navigating between forums is still painfully slow.

Still speedy for me. I wonder what's going on?
I came to say it's been a bit better for me today, then all the avatars on this page took 20 seconds to load.

Well it's not a regionally centered problem then because we're pretty geographically close.

Well, we are light years apart on donations?????

;)

I've noticed a difference between my smart phone and my computer. I have no slowdowns on my phone, but the PC is a slower load time.

We are working on blocking via our firewall and we will continue to monitor and block. It may take a few more days to completely get this under control, but we are monitoring and we are making progress as well as seeing improved performance.

FYI

Just for a technical bit of information, is your PC connected via a landline?

Here in Japan most of the nation no longer uses landline connections for the Net. Might have been a law set that in motion. Fiber optics and the air stuff is the norm and, like myself, keeping a landline for the phone requires paying extra to NTT.

But I'm not so sure about what is the norm in the States.

I'm also quite interested about the security parameters, if a DDoS causes more trouble for those with the standard landline? Or maybe even an optic line? Plus the sophistication of your DDoS may be of a lot of help to law enforcement by gathering this information. In fact, I know where your server used to be located, but not sure about recently.

I can concur on the phone vs tablet situation, phone is normal and tablet drags.

Mystery solved!

Now we can all go back to solving the ME crisis.

What did you come up with? Both of my pieces go out over the same WiFi system.
The mystery that was solved was why some people are having an issue and some are not.

I'm not qualified to understand why computers and tablets are slower than phones.

Now that is interesting! Very interesting!! I've had to work in Net security situations for myself and for a couple other organizations and this can be one complex study, if you have the job to get to the root of a DDoS attack. Problem is, running a website is already super time consuming and many webmasters and those that own the servers don't have time for the necessary hours of going through so much information. Even the bigger companies will sometimes contract out for snooping through the records to try and get to the heart of a given attack. It's not easy work.

It just took 10 seconds for this thread to open annd load after clicking the link.

I'm going to place this here, as I suspect this is related. If there is tweaking of software and such, weird things can happen, AND that is what this is --- the "Likes" thingy is giving me excess "Likes" and I do have a screen shot, but the basics are one person's "Like" gave me three entries, each a different timestamp; another "Like" thing gave me 5 notices and a couple are the same timestamp. Both logs are a "Like" for a single post, not multiple posts.

Just in case this could aid in troubleshooting. I haven't checked to see if my actual "Like Count" registered all those, but unlikely it did, or I'd soon become a very likeable person, and we all know that ain't true.

Things appear worse this morning. Every function I use is dragging hard.

I should note it’s bad on the IPhone. When I’m on the IMAC all appears well.

I realized something about - well, now a number of hours ago - that server down stuff I opened that other thread on could provide a really good bunch of information because I just saved the cache folder for that browser. It is amazing the information you can get from a cache folder. Not sure why, but I save all information for all browsers I use. Time consuming, even with trick techniques and sure better have the storage room on disks. It's amazing how fast a modern browser can build up to saving over 1GB of information. Cache, cookies, favicons, history all pile up and also provides quite a picture if forensics is necessary.

We appear to have our DDoS attack under control and have had for the past few days. If you're still experiencing issues, I recommend clearing your cookies and the cache in your browser.

You da man, Red. (y)

Still way slow, phone or tablet?

Another tweak, let us know if it worked.
