Shut down the border. The rights answer to everything.

Xenophobia runs amok in the American right wing. Every problem we have overseas and the first thing that comes out of the rednecks mouth's is shut down the border and issue a travel ban. We don't want those brown people with strange sickness's to come over the border. The fact is right wingers hate immigration and even more so if they are not white. Face it they are all xenophobes and they prove it all the time. If then why is it the answer is always the same. Drugs, terrorism, crime, disease and a zit on their ass. Shut down the border. Give me a break.

The reason we have so many illegals in the country is because business wants it that way. And business mainly backs Republicans. Remember Reagan's amnesty? No other President has done the same thing. It was good for business.

The anti-illegal movement is mainly by the rural or lower class Republicans, who don't seem to understand that it's their own party who won't stop the influx of illegals. The Republican politicians are lobbied by businesses, who rely on the low wages and no benefits that illegals accept.

Even so, I think Republicans are anti-ILLEGAL immigration. Not anti-immigration, except for a few extremists. I rarely hear anything against legal immigration. I also don't think it's anti-hispanic. It just happens that the illegal problem is coming from Mexico. But in years past, Americans didn't like Irish immigrants or Chinese immigrants (who were legal, but taking American jobs).

I don't understand anyone being in favor of people illegally entering our country. It's illegal, for one thing. It also uses our country's resources and lowers wages for Americans, since illegals have to take whatever they can get. They also increase the crime rate, since illegals aren't checked for criminal records, of course. They also don't know much about country or its history, since they are not legals who then go through a naturalization process.

Illegal immigration hurts the country and it does hurt Americans. I suspect you don't live in an area with a large illegal population. I do. It's painful to pay for them. My taxes are sky high, to pay for bilingual teachers and free health care. I'm just an ordinary person, so the taxes do hurt. They also drive down wages, since there are so many. You won't find any American landscape employees in my area. They are all Mexican, most of them illegal. That means they put some Americans out of work. Not important to you, maybe. But to the people who went without work, that was a big deal and altered lives, not for the better. The crime is high, with a large number of sex offenders and burglars. There are illegals who come to America specifically to earn a living by stealing from "the rich Americans." They send a lot of their money out of the country, to Mexico, so it doesn't all stay in the community to help the economy.

It really is a problem and is so unfair to many Americans and the country. Any American who takes a stand that breaking the law is the right thing to do...I stand against that person. Especially when it hurts Americans.

Yeah, the immigrants willing to break the law and endanger others to get here for 10 times what they would make in their homeland, and the open borders our govt wont close, and the votes our POTUS wants have nothing to do with it, eh?

No fear here. Just sound science. It is sheer stupidity to invite disease organisms into your country. It's what happened when Europeans came here and infected the natives. They were completely unawares, and unsuspecting, and it was to their detriment. It's a good idea to wise up and not be so stupid as we are here.

My friend. At face value I agree with you but you know as well as I do xenophobia is the national sport of the far right and this shut down the borders BS and travel ban BS is amped up fear in the first degree. They have to have a great Satan and they use a large part of their energy to create one. Yes I don't want terrorist freaks blowing us up and don't like our standard of living compromised by cheap labor but acting like chicken little is not the answer either my friend. Ebola has only killed one person in this country and he caught it in west Africa. Not here.

Relax: the right has no desire at all to shut down the borders. The xenophobic talk is just a circus to entertain the unwashed.

The actual power behind the right wants the borders wide open for cheap labor.

The big business right would love open borders to undermine labor cost. That is for sure my friend. It is the wing nuts who scream about those damn immigrants who have brown skin and bring terrorism and sickness.

I'll have you know I'm not xenophobic. I like xenos.

You don't dislike those damn people who live in other countries? Many on the right don't even though they will not admit it.

The highlighted above seems to be outright wrong. I know far more Liberals than conservatives and everyone of them is Screaming about ILLEGAL immigration AND ease of entry from Ebola areas.

Why would I dislike people who live in other countries? We have all flavors here, and I don't dislike them. They may dislike me, but that's their problem, not mine. Confusing politics with race and ethnicity is a nasty business to be involved in.

I have always thought the USA and Canada should be one country. It would make us both stronger because we are so much alike. I have had rednecks freak out when I say that. We do need Mexican pot to lower our prices here in Washington state. I am not saying open up the Mexican border but it is a little tiresome to hear far right idiots screaming about the border and comments like "legs like canaloupe's".

So do you think I am off base when it get on far right nut jobs like Steve King, Louie Gohmert, Michele Bachmann or Ted Cruze talk like the KKK or like my neighbors in Northern Idaho.

This is a nation of immigrants. Anything that tries to change that is un-American. Yes some of these threats are real but it always seems to be conservatives who freak out the most. Just look when a rapist is running around. It is always the law and order types who freak out the most. It is always Lindsey Graham who is running around trying to start WW3 because he is afraid. I am just saying they live off fear and it does bring out their inner xenophobia. Am I wrong?

All politicians say dumb things from time to time. I don't remember any that you mention rising to the level of KKK rhetoric, and I have no idea what your neighbors to the north might say. I think the tendency to characterize the remarks of such people as extreme is standard practice for some. So if the shoe fits...

YES but you may not recognize that. Some are blinded by partisanship and often paint all with a very wide brush.

That is fueled by far right nimrods who are addicted to a great Satan so they can vent their hate speech. Without that great Satan that venom turns inward thus the anti welfare, anti immigrant, anti gay, anti female, anti marijuana and anti worker BS they spew. Maybe we should find them another great Satan. A war on something or maybe a witch hunt.

You have never heard of Randy Weaver, skin heads or Neo Nazi's? Northern Idaho or NE Washington state is a hot spot. Those morons I have mentioned know better that to say what they really think. You know that.

Have a good day

It's not surprising to hear a liberal make this argument. It's the ignorant argument but I suppose it resonates with some. I don't know a single conservative personally that believes we should have zero immigration. We have Doctors, Lawyers, Scientist, Artist, Businessmen ( within in a few miles from my house every gas station and a good portion of the restaurants are run by immigrants.
I myself had to participate in the immigration process when I married a German system.
She had to have required immunizations, health exam.
Background check.
I had to provide W2s to prove that I could support her. ( she was also an EMT so she could work as well )
This did not seem unreasonable.

This is not some impossible burden we place upon immigrants that they
Not be criminals
Not have communicable diseases
Be able to provide for themselves or have family that can provide for them.
It is merely a lie spread by pro-illegals on the right and left to smear anyone opposed to illegal immigration, uncontrolled immigration and amnesty. If you can't win the argument then falsely accuse the other side of being racists, xenophobes and anti-immigrant.

Germany let you marry a system? I knew they were liberal, but I had no idea they were that liberal! LOL

That is interesting. It is true that at the bottom of the social scale there are persons that often would vote "right" and are xenophob. I have found that there are also persons of the same quartile that would vote left and dislike foreigners and maybe slightly other minorities. What might be noteworthy is the fact that there are, in fact, some rational reasons to manage the flow of persons into a community or country. I say this as a strong believer in free migration and movement.

I believe my IQ just dropped a few points, as a result of reading that. Puhleeeeze James. Spare us the melodrama.

You paint with a wide brush. The political extreme's are labeled as such because they represent the extreme fringe elements of any political view point, or so one could reasonably believe. If you portray the average conservative or right leaning person with similar characteristics, you're engaged in a smear. In addition, some of the people you mention have been elected by the populace, and we should refrain from calling the populace morons, or their elected representatives. Pelosi is the primary and most notable exception to that general rule.

A fair and structured immigration process allowing people to enter this country from all over the world will strengthen this country. 10 to 20 million criminals entering this country as slave labor undermines wages as well as working conditions. They are destroying everything our parents and grandparents have fought for through unions and years of legislation. This is a nation of immigrants not criminals.

Fear is the driving force behind the bravest men and most hero's. Fear is the emotion that forces people to choose wisely. Only the truly insane have no fear.

I agree. I am not saying the majority of conservatives are xenophobes but the most hot air is being blown by them right now.

I saw a study that said conservatives fear more than liberals. I am talking about crime, terrorism, sickness and change. I don't disagree that some fear is good but am just commenting on law and order conservatives tendency towards fear. Right now they are wailing.
