Xenophobia runs amok in the American right wing. Every problem we have overseas and the first thing that comes out of the rednecks mouth's is shut down the border and issue a travel ban. We don't want those brown people with strange sickness's to come over the border. The fact is right wingers hate immigration and even more so if they are not white. Face it they are all xenophobes and they prove it all the time. If then why is it the answer is always the same. Drugs, terrorism, crime, disease and a zit on their ass. Shut down the border. Give me a break.
The reason we have so many illegals in the country is because business wants it that way. And business mainly backs Republicans. Remember Reagan's amnesty? No other President has done the same thing. It was good for business.
The anti-illegal movement is mainly by the rural or lower class Republicans, who don't seem to understand that it's their own party who won't stop the influx of illegals. The Republican politicians are lobbied by businesses, who rely on the low wages and no benefits that illegals accept.
Even so, I think Republicans are anti-ILLEGAL immigration. Not anti-immigration, except for a few extremists. I rarely hear anything against legal immigration. I also don't think it's anti-hispanic. It just happens that the illegal problem is coming from Mexico. But in years past, Americans didn't like Irish immigrants or Chinese immigrants (who were legal, but taking American jobs).
I don't understand anyone being in favor of people illegally entering our country. It's illegal, for one thing. It also uses our country's resources and lowers wages for Americans, since illegals have to take whatever they can get. They also increase the crime rate, since illegals aren't checked for criminal records, of course. They also don't know much about country or its history, since they are not legals who then go through a naturalization process.
Illegal immigration hurts the country and it does hurt Americans. I suspect you don't live in an area with a large illegal population. I do. It's painful to pay for them. My taxes are sky high, to pay for bilingual teachers and free health care. I'm just an ordinary person, so the taxes do hurt. They also drive down wages, since there are so many. You won't find any American landscape employees in my area. They are all Mexican, most of them illegal. That means they put some Americans out of work. Not important to you, maybe. But to the people who went without work, that was a big deal and altered lives, not for the better. The crime is high, with a large number of sex offenders and burglars. There are illegals who come to America specifically to earn a living by stealing from "the rich Americans." They send a lot of their money out of the country, to Mexico, so it doesn't all stay in the community to help the economy.
It really is a problem and is so unfair to many Americans and the country. Any American who takes a stand that breaking the law is the right thing to do...I stand against that person. Especially when it hurts Americans.
