This is a subject that I normally avoid because it is just semantics.

Yes we have detention centers, yes when they are over crowded they fall under the definition of concentration camps.

NO the do not fall under the definition of Nazi death camps.

The problem with the terminology is not what is happening now, but back then.

Concentration camp did not begin to describe what the Nazis had, it was a massive understatement, those were death camps, period!!!

And yet...when you read about it in history books, like I did way back in 7th or 8th grade, they are referred to as...concentration camps.

But I agree, semantics. The detention centers aren't as "nice" as your typical prison...which should be concerning.

Exactly, that was my point we were taught the wrong title.

A concentration camp is a camp that is holding more residents than its capacity allows.

What the Nazis were running were death camps and they should have been called such in our education...
