That makes it even worse.

It's one thing to claim innocence in inadvertently getting your children mixed up in such a mess but to be so conniving as to use your children in order to draw a response you can then fake outrage about and raise campaign donations through is about as low as you can get. Considering Cruz, you could be right.

Do to the cartoonist attackin a 7 yr old and a 4 yr old.....my intention is to double down on donations to Ted Cruz's campaign.

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

Nothing in the ad or the children's part in it called for depicting them as monkeys. That was an attack....not collateral damage. The wench could have attacked the points in the ad....instead she chose to attack a 7 year old and a 4 year old.

Wench? Seriously? She kindly compared their father prostituting his children for his personal gain, with an organ grinder. What are the unknowing but cute-looking tools of an organ grinder? Monkeys.

There was nothing kind about her cartoon. She attacked a seven year old and a four year old. Why do you think the chief editor pulled it?

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

Because people like yourself misread what was in front of them.

Would you prefer them drawn as themselves, being manipulated by their parental puppetmaster? It's a similar message.

They should not be drawn at all.

Nice try, however the chief editor disagrees with you.

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

No matter how much you and others try to dance around it....the artist depicted two little girls as monkeys. They can criticise an ad without doing that. The chief editor pulled the ad for a reason. If you think Cruz was out of line for using his kids in the ad, what the cartoonist did was much much worse.

I disagree - but nothing is gained by belabouring it. Editorial cartoons are always controversial. This one, in my view, was perfectly on point and brilliantly so.

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

It's an issue when one posts "conservative in his or her profile. Yes...the editorial cartoon is free speech. So is the criticism of the wench cartoonist attacking children. Cruz's using the children in a political ad does not excuse someone publicly depicting them as monkeys.

Clearly, you didn't understand the cartoon. Political satire isn't for everyone.

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

Ted Cruz is a diehard political opportunist, IMO. Cruz created his punitive ad featuring his children making insults and petty fun of his opponent, Hillary Clinton. Then when an Editorial continued in the same vein making ridicule with his children as monkeys, the GOP most reviled candidate, used his children to raise money on the political ad. Personally, I do not believe Cruz is truly that disconcerted regarding his daughters for if that were the case he would not have initially used them in a negative ad to attack. His political fight is between him and Hillary sans his children. In my opinion, Cruz opened himself up for counterattack and deserves anything he gets.

A fool and his money are soon parted. As a free individual, you are free to expend your resources on any lost causes you choose.

Cruz may indeed deserve everything he gets, but his daughters don't deserve any of it, and that's the point.

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

I want to make sure I understand. You excuse the cartoonist?

The cartoonist did her job - she lampooned Cruz brilliantly. So brilliantly, that his supporters are left with feigning outrage and falsely claiming attacks on his children while at the same time conveniently skipping over Cruz's own role in the matter.

It's incredibly disingenuous to claim the cartoon was an attack on the children - there's zero rational for an attack on children and I'm sure you know it. But it makes for great dramatic theatre, something Cruz I'm sure is enjoying.

But I've provided my views on this multiple times so I won't bother going on further - we'll just have to disagree.

I am not a Cruz supporter, and I found the cartoon a disgusting assault on innocent children. Cruz's "own role in the matter" is as irrelevant as the cartoonist's intent to target Cruz.

Perfectly on point if such is attacking children. It had nothing to do with the actual points made in the ad.

I am fine with satire. Attacking a 7 yr old and a 4 year old and depicting them as monkeys is not satire. It was an attack.

But then my so-called lost cause is doing much better then your lost cause. What's Jeb Bush at now? 3%?

So brilliantly that her chief editor pulled the cartoon because in his opinion it went over the line.

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

If said children enter the political realm, as Bristol Palin and Chelsea Clinton have, then yes they should be fair game.

Otherwise, and I don't care what political party their parents belong to, I find it to be in bad taste.

Jeb Bush can win or lose with honour - Cruz, not so much.

Indeed - in a politically correct world, sometimes editors cave to criticism. I'm sure the Charlie Hebdo editors weren't so weak spined.

Jeb is running negative attack ads on pretty much everyone else still running on the GOP side. Cruz is the only one not going negative. As far as I am concerned, Cruz will win or lose with honor. Read his book. Then you might understand. There has not been much honor in the GOP or DNC establishment for quite some time.

The Washington Post chief editor was very clear that he pulled the cartoon because it crossed the line. I think the comparison to the Hebto editors is in very poor taste.

Re: Should The Children Or Family Members Of Politicians Be Fair Game For Political H

She admitted that she targeted the kids. How much more do you need? The head editor pulled the cartoon. She went over the line. Deal with it.

What was she targeting? Their smiles? Blond hair? Gaps in their teeth? No, in point of fact the people who usually gripe about all of this political correctness crap are just pissed off that Cruz got called for using his "beautiful little girls" like stage props, marionettes, or, in the extant case, organ grinder monkeys.
