why not weed out the problems before they become a problem? Look how many tweeker couples have kids.
How to weigh the cons and benefits?
I suggest we do the Jew test. Set up the same scenario, but change parenting to something else, and see if it suddenly seems unfair.
Right to be a parent.
- Today parents have to actively do something in order to lose the right to their kids.
- However, there are may idiot parents that are not caught, and the potential for harm to children is huge.
- So why not implement a right to parent test for everybody to see if they are worthy of parenthood?
- Potential for abuse: High. People are afraid to lose their children, so the potential for pressuring them would be high, and those in power would not be impacted.
Lets take voting.
- Today you have to actively have been an idiot in order to lose your right to vote.
- However, lots of idiots vote, and the potential for harm to society is huge.
- So why not implement an idiot test for everybody to see if they are worthy of voting?
- Potential for abuse: High. People are afraid to lose their democratic influence, so the potential for pressuring them would be high, and those in power would not be impacted.
And the right to -not- be a parent.
- Today everybody has the right to bodily integrity, including abortions. Present Supreme Court controversies aside, this right cannot be taken away.
- However, inevitably some abortions are performed that were mistaken (mistaken medical diagnosis, post ex facto regret, etc.).
- So why not implement a right to abortion test for all women, to see if they worthy to decide if they want an abortion?
- Potential for abuse: High. People are afraid to be settled with children they do not want, so the potential for pressuring them would be high, and those in power would probably benefit from higher birth rates.
And for good measure something where pre-approval has already been implemented.
- Today you do not automatically have the right to drive.
- Lots of bad drivers out there, and the potential for causing injuries and deaths is high.
- So why not keep the driver test to weed out bad drivers?
- Potential for abuse: Low. Many people can do without their own vehicle, so the potential for pressuring them would not be high, and those in power also need taxpayers to be able to commute efficiently.
I suppose I could add another parameter for how frequently rights are lost unjustly and how it impacts society, but that would probably derail the discussion completely, so I'll leave that out.
