In polls taken all over Europe, 72% of those asked said that they did not approve of the direction the USA is going. That includes internaly and foriegen policy. Thing have changed since the 1800-early-mid-1900, if you haven't noticed.

Keep in mind, this is the same Europe in which Israel often polls as the greatest threat to global peace. Obviously, anti-Semitism is alive and well in Europe.
