Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disclose

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

even when you can read the nametag?

unbelievable .................... just plain stupid ............

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

Lying to cover something up shows intent.

Lying requires intent and has to be material

For example if Senator Sessions referred to Senator Feinstein as "the lovely and honorable Senator Feinstein" that would twice be a lie but not material

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

I'm pretty sure it's the lying about it that's the important part.

Why would you lie unless you didn't want to make it public?

The whip count on resign, recuse, deflect and flip-flop with GOP lawmakers has begun.

GOP House Majority Leader McCarthy walked back his suggestion that sessions should recuse himself from Russia investigations.

He said recuse on Morning Joe, got his hand slapped by Ryan and the WH, and then walked back on FOX .

Nah, if it was that much of a concern, they would not be wearing uniforms with name tags.

The "football" is basically a laptop and a sat phone, it's highly outdated and is more for public perception than anything else.

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

Again is it material? lying under oath requires intent and materiality for it to matter

I was thinking about that earlier. Even though the answer itself had nothing to do with the question asked on the surface - it is material because it turns out that Sessions is one of the people covered by Franken's question and his lie was a defensive response to that question.

More weak sauce deflection to Sen. Feinstein who you hate over guns.

Why won't you answer my question about YOUR Ohio Sen. Portman calling for sessions to RECUSE ?

you're reading minds now. Sorry I find that argument unpersuasive

I'm sure you can find a thread for this latest trumpistani deflection of yours away from the corrupt and criminal trump White House .

he's suggesting Sessions avoid the appearance of Propriety because Portman actually tries to work with the Democrats. something that is rare in this environment. I'd be tempted to tell Franken to sit on a telephone pole and spin

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

It is shocking to GOP lawmakers .

Spineless GOP'ers who freak out over media coverage? The same ones that trumpet "We'll act and do these big things if we have the House..." - they get the House, then say "Oh, it's too hard, we need the Senate" They get the Senate.... "Oh no, we need the White House too! Can't act without that either..." So they get all three and now... they are looking for any reason to not actually do as promised. The GOP Leadership, is full of twerps. Lots of the rank and file are good, but there are more than few RINO's near the top.

You dependent class liberals really need a new shtick. I mean every time you guys embarrass your selves you can't retort with "you trumpistanit blah blah blah" and expect to be taken seriously.

I'm not reading minds. Why else would someone respond to a question about what others had done (nobody knew that Sessions was one of those people at that time) by saying 'I didn't do it!' His own wrongdoing clearly influenced his answer. Sessions is a traitor just like Flynn.

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

Doesn't seem likely, or Sessions is a very careless man with a careless and incompetent staff. Surely he would have anticipated questions about Russian ties - it's been in the news just a little - and therefore a guy with his experience in D.C. and Congressional hearings and the HIGH potential for gotcha questions should have at a minimum had his staff review his calendar and highlight any contact on the record with anyone from the Russian government.

The first meeting wasn't even a formal one, so that could easily be forgiven.
The second sure, but I can see a couple of motivations for not mentioning it.

The Russian conspiracy has gotten incredibly out of hand.
He was damned if did, damned if he didn't.
Regardless of how he answered, there are/were going to be accusations of collusion with Russia.

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

The in person meeting was in Sessions' Senate offices. And your "we don't know of any phone calls...." belongs in the Conspiracy Theory thread. Lack of evidence isn't evidence.

And what did they talk about in his office? Evidence please.

No, no they haven't. The FBI is investigating the DCCC mail hack, and the potential hack of Podhesta by Gucifer 2. Neither of those are investigating the "Trump/Russia" connection. The "Intelligence Community" isn't investigating anything, especially since the IC isn't a police force.

I'm just reporting the news, and you're splitting hairs on my use of IC:

The investigations appear to have begun as early as last spring, when the CIA established a US counterintelligence task force to investigate whether the Trump campaign received funds from Russia. The task force consisted of the FBI, the Treasury and Justice departments, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the National Security Agency.

That better?

This is a false statement.

The meeting in Cleveland was at a publicized Heritage Foundation event where Sessions was a speaker and the Russian ambassador was one of 50 ambassadors in attendance. There is no evidence that the two even spoke one of one.

You're making a lot of "FALSE!!" claims when you're not reading the news...

Two months before the September meeting, Sessions attended a Heritage Foundation event in July on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention that was attended by about 50 ambassadors. When the event was over, a small group of ambassadors approached Sessions as he was leaving the podium, and Kislyak was among them, the Justice Department official said.

Sessions then spoke individually to some of the ambassadors, including Kislyak, the official said.

If you have evidence that is FALSE or that Sessions or his people have denied that, please fill us in.

Now you are presupposing investigations from imaginary evidence and predetermining the imaginary outcomes. Can you point me to active investigations into any of those people?

Are you asserting that there aren't going to be any investigations by the House, Senate, and/or DoJ? If not, then why are even some GOP members of Congress calling on Sessions to recuse himself? If not from an investigation that will hit Russia/Trump campaign ties, then what investigation are they referring to?

You're not making sense, and apparently not following the news.

It was complete. The only part that you side feels is incomplete is that part you manufactured out of whole cloth.

What can I say - lots of people disagree with you including members of his own party, and ultimately they'll matter a helluva lot more than you or I will....

A lot of rRepublicans have to deal with re-elections and have to care how ignorant people vote. I don't have that same limitation so I speak my mind.

But what you're ignoring is calls for him to recuse himself aren't based on your frankly apparently uninformed view of the situation, but how the broader public views it.

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

No, he should just recuse himself from any DoJ investigation.

DOJ investigations into what, exactly? You claimed that there were ongoing IC investigations that don't exist... what should he recuse himself from?

That is what people are demanding, even some republicans.

People demand all kinds of things that make no sense outside of political calculations, that doesn't mean their demands should be met.

Thought you'd have read that in the news by now. E.g.

I'm aware of it. You should maybe learn the difference between a principled public stance and a politically expedient public stance.

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

This thread is hilarious.

I've never seen such reflexive dismissal of pretty suspicious behavior involving a national security risk. Clearly there's a lot of smoke about the Trump campaign and Russian involvement, but since it leads to tax cuts... let's just pretend it didn't happen!

Party over Country, I guess.

Shame on you all.

what exactly did he do that was contrary to the interests of the united States

Now I'm a dependent class liberal as you're at the bottom of your barrel of insults and smears. You know ZERO about me but cons on here who know me do.

Why are you defending trump's sick shtick and refusing to discuss the thread content in any trump thread you enter?

sessions has a news conference at the top of the hour .

Re: Sessions met with Russian envoy twice last year, encounters he later did not disc

Sessions will talk at 4 EST, I expect that he will say that he was honest, though there is a very slim chance he will opt out of running the Russian probe.

Will know soon.

Did I not say the best thing would be for him to resign?

or were your partisan blinders snug down to tight for you to see.

See I love banter, you can throw all your snarky jabs at me all day long, I enjoy it. Just don't whine when you get it back in kind. it's such a buzzkill to realize you are snowflaking....

I'd just think a guy with Session's experience and the attention he KNEW any ties with Russia would generate that he'd prefer to get it out up front, but maybe he figured with an already contentious hearing that he'd keep it buried and ride it out after the fact. Who knows. But surely he knew they'd ask, knew that it would come out, so forgetting doesn't appear to be an option to me.
