Sesame Street heads to Netflix after Trump pulled funding

No you don't, you don't think taxpayers should invest in it. At least, that's what you're saying here.

Honestly, though, i do believe that you used to support it. And, since I'm going out on a limb here anyway, I doubt you ever thought it wasn't worth being supported by tax payer dollars prior to 2016, maybe even later.

If you can't see the value of government protected and funded public broadcasting and creation of educational content for children, free of corporate obligation, and therefore messaging, I don't know what to tell you, we are different, and we're not going to reach consensus in this discussion.

Given the altar this is being sacrificed on, aka tax cuts for rich people and Trump's obsession with looking like a tough guy for his base by being petty with anyone his fevered brain perceives as ever having crossed him, I don't see the upside here... but everyone's definition of decency is their own, I guess.
 
From the time I was a little kid, I never did get the point of Sesame Street. I'm not convinced this is a core educational resource that has an inalienable right to government funding. I mean, does the government fund Wikipedia? Does it pay for free AI programs that a kid can ask any question any time? Then why should it pay for a puppet show just because it reminds some old folks of their childhood?

What really worries me with this is that the Trump administration never treats anything like an exercise in political theory. If they cut PBS funding, it doesn't mean they want to take the government out of subsidizing media. It probably means they hate PBS, and a cut in funding today will be followed by a revocation of their tax-free status two weeks from now, a bogus lawsuit in a month, a law meant to criminalize Bert and Ernie's friendship next month, a set of regulations to force a rewrite to any children's show episode that uses the phrase "Gulf of Mexico", and so on, until they fire everybody in charge of the show and replace them with Trump's grandcousin and Ben-Gvir's ex-wife. I hope I'm wrong ... remind me to keep score in two months.

The amount saved is chump change.

Who controls those republican televisions? They are free to block those channels. The government is not the parents of those peoples' kids, right?

The difference is that MAGA wants to remove the element of choice.

? That's what you get from Trump pulling funding from PBS? It's not about removing choice, it's mainly about cutting waste. But also because our tax dollars are being used to push a leftist viewpoint, which should not be the case. It's not about killing Sesame Street, PBS can survive without Federal money, and should.

Tell me again what their annual funding is?

I mean, the MAGAs were all happy about trashing the federal government when the entire payroll of the civilian side is 4% of the budget.

While shoving a bill that adds close to $4 Tn to the debt.

I do not consider MAGAs to be a reliable source of what is and is not waste.

I have issues with the bill myself, but that has nothing to do with the subject. PBS doesn't need Federal funding, and we don't need to pay for it. We have to start cutting somewhere, this seems like an easy choice.
