SC Rules Red States Can Force You To Register To Look At Adult Sites

Read the link you were provided. Not only did they know - they also willfully ignored the pleas of the victims to remove the content.
To my eyes, that looks like one employee from the subcontractor testifying about one individual performer. It is not obvious that Aylo was wrong to assume that the producer had gotten its act together after that. In any case, any inappropriate violation of that man's private image is NOT CHILD PORN and it is NOT A REASON FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY TO LOSE ITS PRIVACY.

If your too ****ing stupid to get a VPN and easily evade these laws, you don't DESERVE access to porn.
Do you REALLY think that the main purpose of Copilot is not to say "Gosh, this guy is using a VPN, and here's the exact timing of the comms going in and out so you can block that proxy right now while you're deciding how to prosecute him or the web site"?

Do you REALLY think the mandated top-level certificates for the "trusted third parties" doing key escrow for your web browser can only be implemented in China?

Do you REALLY think that any paid porn site, taking your credit card with an address in Texas, is going to be able to get away with assuming you're really on vacation in Sweden, nay Denmark, maybe Spain, all the time?

Sounds good except that’s mailing in a paper ballot. Explain how presenting identification works for online ID vs creating an online registry? I flash an id to prove my age, no one keeps it. Which also brings up 4th violations - is this data in fact being stored?

I don’t know.

Le sigh. You didn’t read the release and you’re getting it all backwards. The platform was paid to host content it knew to be a product of sex trafficking. They continued to host that content despite pleas from the victims to remove it, for several years after the content creator confessed the nature of the content in open court, and knowingly allowed the content creator to reupload the content under a different account after it was removed under the original account.

The bottom line is that the plaintiff in this case is a proven profiteer of illegal pornography and the reason it was willing to do that is because it generates traffic and revenue on their website. To whit, any right to privacy you think you have does not translate into a right to be unidentifiable. There is no such right.

Wanna bet? Since I like to think I am someone and have never watched porn, I am guessing everyone is minus one.

I tend to enjoy seeing pictures of attractive naked women but porno films are like WWE wrestling events.
If I want to see arousing scenes of people making it on film there are plenty of actual movies that have sex scenes in them which are well done and memorable.

When someone starts talking about porn films it immediately makes me remember that scene in The Big Lebowski with the fictional "Logjammin!" featuring Karl Hungus
who is "zee expert at fixing zee cable." 😆

I'll just stick with my own dirty mind, thanks.

Porno website rules:

1- DO NOT PAY FOR PORNO
2- IF YOU MUST PAY FOR PORNO USE A VISA/MC GIFT CARD

I think SCOTUS may have just held that gun registries are constitutional.

People should invest in VPN stocks. Human nature doesn't really change in response to these sorts of laws.

Relatively few users are paying for porn. The large majority are getting porn free from the many international sites that offer it (and I would note those sites do NOT comply with these stupid laws).

Thus, with no payment to tie you to your personal identify, you can evade with impunity. And software exists to sweep any potential tracking efforts clear.

Unless a person is a complete bozo about it, nobody is coming to get you if you use a VPN and look at porn.

And if a person is dumb enough to actually PAY for porn, well, stupidity is painful.

I do not necessarily disagree with the decision from a perspective of Constitutional grounds, where my question comes into play is the interstate aspect to origination and destination of any material usually resulting in the Federal level creating such regulation. As in the FCC where we see similar regulation on handling this very subject from a broadcast and television perspective. States may still go above and beyond this but generally impacting the television provider in the state not necessarily the origination of such content.
Fortunately, who has authority to regulate the internet at large is not a rabbit hole SCOTUS had to go down in this case. Texas is not regulating how the pornography product arrives to its State but rather how it is distributed to consumers in its State.

🤣🤣🤣
Wonder if the GOP will criminalize VPNs next.

I always loved hookers, brothels, strip clubs

Yeesh, another three things I steer clear of.
Hookers, there's almost always the likely probability of picking up a disease, brothels---maybe a bit more regulated sometimes but still similar risks and if unregulated, you may get caught by vice cops, and strip clubs----this latter one has never made sense to me because if I were to go to a strip club, I'm going to expect to see attractive naked women and that's going to put me in the mood to have sex, but you can't hit on the strippers and they are definitely not in the mood to hit on me, because it's just their job.
So strip clubs strike me as an irritation, look but don't touch, sounds like Genesis in The Bible.😆

I'm happily married now so I am arguing from the POV of how it would be if I was single, of course.
I would stick with going to regular bars or some other venue where attractive women like to hang out and try to interest one of them instead.

I don't have a strong issue with this, nor a strong opinion on it, but as a general rule I think that every state having its own unique regulations for commerce simply makes it more difficult for businesses to succeed across the country, which translates into a drag on the economy.

From a technical perspective, I also believe that this should be handled on-device, because the reality is that SCOTUS and MAGA have zero jurisdictional authority on businesses that operate outside the United States, so unless red states are planning to setup state-level Great Firewalls like China to block international sites, they're not stopping anything and all of this is simply performative to make people like @Napoleon feel better about themselves while not actually blocking anything.

Everything today's Republican Party DOES is performative, it's all theater, it's all reality tee vee, it's all WWE.
It's aimed at the Dumb Yokels, religious whackjobs, incels and angry paranoid schizos.
What a ****ed up way to run a goddamn country.

Speaking of performative outrage. 🤭 Real it in a few hundred yards would ya. It’s not that serious.

The party of freedom and liberty strikes again on behalf of THE CHILDREN.

I usually don't get involved since the definition of 'porn' is inadequate.

We can read about and see the luxuriant lifestyles of the rich and famous..which is a kind of porn.

We have ancient art of the virgin Mary giving birth in what appears to be excruciating pain...to say NOTHING of the suffering on the statue's face depicting the elongated torture and death of the "savior".

That's porn.

Porn is what's scattered on the ground after a tank battle. Porn is having to leave a senior citizen bleeding in the street, in agony while they "triage" other patients because of a lack of resources. Porn is ignoring the numbers of people who never even make it to the hospital.

The issue is that the verification methods result in exposing people to data breaches. Most of these verification sites require something like your driver’s license or passport.
That.
One could also guess that "kids" know where Mom and/or Dad keep their licence.
If the data is eventually breached, it could be leaked or used to blackmail a parent.
Who's to say who actually watched porn?

Rotflmao

Yeah, you would be in an ultra small category. I always loved hookers, brothels, strip clubs and was very comfortable in what some consider these dark areas.
Streaming porn? A big nothing.

Again, it has zero to do with who is getting it. Childish expression BTW.

Sheesh!!

I first moved to Vancouver I got a room with services in a hotel that had a strip bar.
It was convenient for my job, my dog and allowed me a lot of privacy.....and contact with beautiful women.

In my case they usually had their clothes on. It was a real growth experience in my life, mid to late 20's discovering, hey, these are real people with real feelings etc. etc. etc.

I had no problem with "dark areas" nor much of the lifestyle. I did see enough to never go near certain substances or people.

Today I am told I have a way with women. If true "the way" is to remain single, never go steady and NEVER SAY "I do".

Anyone opposed to this must be watching some sketchy material. The government requires age verification for tobacco, alcohol, and lottery tickets. Age verification for obscene material shouldn’t be controversial.

Yes but in the situations you refer to you have to only show your ID.

If you were buying a lottery ticket would you allow the clerk to photocopy or take a picture of your driver's license?

That's a huge risk. Any data breach would reveal everything needed for identity theft.

These days, photo IDs are scanned when purchasing those products (or supposed to be).

Not here. I would never allow any ID to be photocopied, scanned or photographed.

I ordered wine online and the courier wanted a picture of my license as proof of age. I said no and he didn't push it.

And it’s just fine if you don’t want to trade your personal data for porn. That is the choice in Texas.

I have no problem with the law itself. I think keeping minors off porn sites isn't a bad thing.

But it's just a matter of time before one of these sites has a data breach and every user is screwed.

Yeah...

They've only been operating for what? Five decades?

I have never been to any place but the airport that requires scanning IDs.
Your passport I assume. That's normal and they already have your passport in their system.

Passport is the only thing I've ever had scanned at airports.
