sadly purist conservatives don't have much chance of winning. and Romney most likely will appoint 99% of the same judges as your most desired candidate.
So the only option is to vote for a liberal republican aka a RINO? A liberal rat is still a liberal rat regardless what letter they have next to their name.sadly purist conservatives don't have much chance of winning.

I see Romney appointing the same judges as Obama or close to it.

Its a shame too. He will probably be the only conservative candidate that isn't nuts.
I think Huckabee loses, but I doubt a landslide. Economic recovery is going to hurt republican chances next year.
What makes you think there will be economic recovery? The ground our economy is on right now is terribly shaky. Really it just looks good because things have been buried in Fed cash. There is a limit.
He's also the only GOP front-runner that actually has a chance of beating Obama....but luckily the wacko base won't see past the Mormon thing and I agree...getting the nomination is an uphill battle for him. It will be harder for Romney to get the GOP nomination than it would for him to beat Obama.
I think Huckabee loses against Obama in a landslide. Huckabee will carry the South, but I don't see him carrying much outside of the Southern states and the usually redbelt mid-America (Utah, Wyoming, Idaho....). I think Huckabee would get less electoral votes than McCain.
I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure if I agree that the same strategy works in the Presidential election. Energizing the base I believe will alienate moderates and independents. I can't see Huckabee bringing many of them into his camp.
If the GOP wants to "energize its base", the best person for that is Palin....and look at how well she would do against Obama.
I have a very hard time seeing him get the nomination. Being a Mormon, having supported gun legislation, supporting mandatory heath insurance, I think all of that is going to be too much to overcome.

No surprise, but it's April 2011 and we are basically starting the presidential campaign for Nov. 2012.
Because the cyclic nature of the economy makes a recovery soon almost inevitable, and pretty much all the indicators are that a recovery is underway, slow, but true.
It's not the Mormon thing conservatives really gawk at, it's the supporting gun legislation.
No one is looking to have to make a choice between a rino and obama...but if push comes to shove a Rino is better than another 4 of Obama to me.
I disagree Romney isnt a strict social or fiscal conservative but hes no obama.
I used to be a member of the NRA, but they went crazy and starting pandering to those who see themselves as some kind of Rambo. Romeny isn't going to take your toys away from you so stop worrying about that.

Link? what gun legislation in particular?

Mitt Romney on Gun Control
The assault rifle ban. While, it doesn't bother me, per se, it does bother some.
Half of me says you are right given the extremist make-up of much of the Republican primary constitutuency. The other half of me says we should not judge the GOP that harshly to think they would reject the srongest general election candidate and the one who could probably even beat Obama if other events go his way.
A lot of this is going to come down to what is the highest priority of the GOP. Is it to beat Obama or is it to continuing the purification of the party?

Does he need to become a birther in order to get the nomination?

Romney can't win, we won't vote for him.
