Republicans Costing Jobs Already: 300 Lost Due to Scott Walker Election

In other words, a Republican Governor-Elect is gloating over already costing his future constituents jobs before even assuming office. If this is what we can expect nationwide when Republicans take control of the House of Representatives, the economy is in for a major tumble.

The very fact that government subsidization was necessary to undertake this project tells you that capital and resources were being diverted away from where they were needed in the economy and squandered on something the market deemed unnecessary. This is basically throwing wealth down the toilet. The consequences of such state action are lost jobs in the private sector (Bastiat's famous "that which is unseen"), tied up capital, and higher prices for other producers. You focus on the (perceived) benefits here and completely ignore the unseen costs. Of course, you can't help but ignore the costs because--as your analysis reveals--you have no understanding of basic economics.

Chinese dildo's and fridge magnets? Also you cannot say that the project owuld have to be permanently subsidized they may have a plan for it to be self sustaining to some extent.

There was no market demand for this train. This was just a project for the administration to throw stimulus money for political capital. Stimulus money is subsidization.

Name one self-sustaining government program.

I would support a high speed rail that connects Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago provided it was affordable. This project was just poorly designed and poorly executed.

Walker, though, is a huuuuuuuuuuuuge douchebag.

Population density in the US (half to a tenth that of European countries) does not support a similar rail system as they have, with a profit. The area you note is not one of the rare dense sections of the US (the east coast, especially northern and a couple other areas). Even with massive subsidy in the most dense region of the US, has Amtrak ever made a profit?

If you want rail without population density, it must be subsidized (like electricity). Who's gonna pay for your "affordable" rail?
