There are simply no words for this level of stupidity.
Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel meant no disrespect when he previously called Tea Party members “white crackers” — he says it was actually a compliment.
The longtime Capitol Hill Democrat said Monday that he thought cracker “was a term of endearment” and was puzzled by the firestorm that his use of the term in a 2013 interview set off.
In a chat with the Huffington Post on Monday, Rangel offered a half-hearted apology for using the word when comparing the Tea Party to Jim Crow segregationists.
Rangel: Calling Tea Party 'white crackers' was a compliment - NY Daily News
Awesome. Stupid and a crook. What a combination! And he won re-election by a landslide.
Underlined: Considering how often those D's love to call those R's racists I can't really blame the R's for showing that the D's are just as capable of racism. The fact that you do shows what side of the aisle that you're on.
The only time I ever hear "All Republicans are racist" it's usually someone from the right saying it in exactly the same way you are. Here at DP, you're more likely to hear that it's the other way around. But hey, why let reality interfere with those talking points?
How can you lie like that?
Its not a term of endearment in the Cattle Industry in Texas.
I doubt Charles Rangel is up on Cattle Industry terms anyway.
No, he used it as a derogatory slur against white people in general.
It just appears he is like everyone else who picks and choose what they think is offensive. Best bet for a smart person is to simply refuse to use any slang for a group of people.
This pick and choose has been seen here in DP where many would find cracker offensive but okay with Redskins. Another ploy used by the pick and choose group is to throw in the PC card if there is objection to one of there chosen okay slang words.
A person in congress should know better if not then they don't need to be there.
And the context of what you suggest here is changing the name in order to prove a racist charge, this would prove nothing because the context still isn't the same. But I can tell you right now that if a team had the name "crackers" for as long as the Redskins team has had their team name and with the honor that they have, I'd have no problem with the team named such. Why? Because context is everything.

Someone's voting for the man - or does that get another
And yet, ironically, no one in this thread has said "All Republicans are racist", much less me. Are we playing with strawmen again? Better watch out, I hear that they chaff really bad in certain areas.
Gosh, a black man said something derogatory about white racists? Heavens to Murgatroyd!

Lighten up EugeneDidn't take long before the PC card arrived.
Lighten up Eugene
No fan, and yet you manage to find your way to this thread to defend him. Priceless.
The word itself I couldn't care less about. The double standard and hypocrisy do irk me, though.OMG, can we all cry together? My feelings are SO hurt....

LOL... not this guy or that guy... it's ALL the blacks that are racist. Gotcha.
All the black leaders like Sharpton and Jackson and now Obama are racist.
How, exactly, is Obama racist? This should be fun.

Being half white and half black, he must hate his other half, eh?
It doesn't mean anything if you get to choose which one you'd rather identify with. You need to read too.
"It is official: Barack Obama is the nation’s first black president."
"A White House spokesman confirmed that Mr. Obama, the son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, checked African-American on the 2010 census questionnaire. "
