Religious toleration

Is your signature there out of disbelief that somebody felt that way, or because you agree with what the guy said?

Ah, I remember this, X and I had this debate around when I first joined DP.

I believe the quote is in reference to the belief that the creation of the world didn't happen by chance - that mathematically speaking some sort of divine intervention was required for the world/universe to be created. I don't agree with that position, but I can respect his views.

Thanks again, SB. You are exactly right about the signature I had before yesterday. I've changed it though, to be a quote from Graffias (whatever his name is).

@Tessa, I was amazed by the stupidity in Graffias' post, that's why I have the little shocked smilies at the bottom. I have been worried, though, that some may think I put it there out of agreement. To be clear, I don't.

That is seriously one of the stupidest things I've ever read here.

I figured the shocked smilies meant as much, but I wanted to clarify...

Isn't it?

I'm glad you asked rather than assumed. I'll probably change it soon. There may be others wondering the same thing but won't ask me.

I hadn't seen anything else from you that would have suggested you agreed with that statement...but you never know, right?

You should tell him...

Well, that's very nice of you; however, I can't tolerate bigots.

"So I am starting college next year and I was talking to another incoming freshman. He asked me my religion, when he found out that it was different than his own he told me he could "tolerate" me. However he could not tolerate Islam because he believes it to be a false-religion so its followers are bad people." - jking948

That was kind of time to "tolerate" you but his explanation of not tolerating Islam leaves a lot to be desired. Technically, you can't "tolerate" someone until you disagree with them. I, too, think that Islam is a "false religion" and can only tolerate it because I disagree with it.

Until we disagree there is nothing to "tolerate".

"Anyway I am sure this is not why all people don't "tolerate" Islam, but in general, why is it that certain people cannot tolerate those of different religions? Any ideas?" - jking948

I think it ultimately boils down to immaturity with some kind of "control-issues" the intolerate person may have thrown in for good measure. But this is only speculation on my part...I'm no shrink.

"If I am off-base with this question please let me know as well I am really curious to hear the responses." - jking948

No, you're not off-base and screw anybody that thinks differently!

I support religious toleration, as long as non-Christians do not live in the West. That's my only expectation. Not bad, eh?

Request a room transfer. Why put up with a narrow-minded person? It's a control issue and unless you want to play gotcha I'd vacate the premises and leave the freak to prey on someone else. Who wants the negativity? Sounds to me like you'll be living with your mom or your mother-in-law. Screw him and beat feet to a more tolerant domicile. it wouldn't even be a maybe in my life. Move on and don't look back.

Chances are if you stay the religious freak will be going through your s*** and snooping over your shoulder.
