The impasse is triggering alarms about an already fragile economic environment.

The partial government shutdown was supposed to be a brief non-event for the economy. Now it’s starting to look like a serious crisis that could nudge the U.S. toward recession and threaten President Donald Trump's economic message during his reelection campaign.

Across Wall Street, analysts are rushing out warnings that missed federal paychecks, dormant government contractors and shelved corporate stock offerings could push first-quarter growth close to or even below zero if the shutdown, which is wrapping up its fourth week, drags on much longer.
=======================================================
This shutdown (aka Trump's Ego Trip) will have inevitable consequences for the economy. But the perfect storm would be a recession/depression later this year dragging into the 2020 election. Hard for a president to get reelected in a disastrous economy that he caused.

If we survive Trump it will be a testament to American resilience.

Trump is the bestest bestest bestest for the economy. He's a successful businessman, he can't help it. It's the Dems fault the economy is a disaster. Except it's the bestest it's ever been, thanks Trump. #MAGA

If we survive Trump it will be a testament to American resilience.
And when it doesn't, it will be the greatest testament to American's ability to be its own greatest enemy.

So now Trump is trapped between dropping approval ratings, a lost public debate and a threatened economy.

The strength of the economy is the only thing holding him up at this point. Remove that and stick a fork in him.

And when it doesn't, it will be the greatest testament to American's ability to be its own greatest enemy.

I think we have already witnessed American's ability to be their own greatest enemies with the election of Trump. if he gets reelected, then this country deserves to become a third world **** hole

fify. ;)

Well, Amelia, I think the only way we will survive as a country is if we stop saying "if." The moment a majority of people (whatever their political leanings) start to genuinely think that the country will not survive and their neighbors are going to start coming after them "Purge" style, the country will disintegrate.

No country deserves becoming a third world mess, Sampson Simpson. Please let go of your hatred.

Trump and congress need to make a deal.
Worrying about zero growth that “might” happen in March if the shutdown is still ongoing is ridiculous and fear mongering.

Trump could lose money if he owned a casino.

Trump's shutdown is going to have some rather harsh and unpleasant results unless he becomes willing to compromise on some things. And I don't think the People will be able to hold on if Trump wants to make this a long standoff. We're already seeing some bad results of it. We shall see if we must continue on the shutdown and what effects it will ultimately bring down upon us.

Fear mongering is all Trump has been doing about the wall. "Oh no, build me my wall or the brown people in the south will get you!!!!!!" - Trump.

err derf, dumb deflection to the "hatred" nonsense. You guys need some new material, the same dumb **** over and over is getting old

Funny, the same people that would say that have no problem bombing the **** out of foreign countries and turning them into a third world **** hole. Or they scoff at migrants trying to flee third world **** holes. Anyway, just shows there was zero thought to your post, just the standard right wing deflections

That's a problem then. I'm not going to pretend that I'm not alarmed by the damage Trump is doing. Nor by the 40-ish % of people who still approve of the damage he is doing.

Right wing deflections? I'm not deflecting. I am appealing to your humanity which I know you have, and whatever decency you may have. I think saying that you wish your country to become one in which economic misery is the norm for most of its people (including yourself presumably), is indecent. But if you wish to cut off your nose to spite your face, do not let me stop you.

Tell me, Sampson Simpson, besides the United States, which countries would you like seen turned into third world sh*tholes based on their governments' policies? Or which countries would you like to see remain third world sh*tholes? Which groups of people deserve to remain in poverty and misery, and why? Please answer, and answer carefully.

In case you all haven't noticed. Trump has fulfilled Putin's fondest wish: destabilize America. Next up: withdraw from Syria & NATO to make the trifecta.

Just finished the first 3%+ ANNUAL GROWTH that MommyPants could never manage.

The Economy is BOOMING.

See the DESPERATE LEFT hoping for bad news.

The greatest danger to the economy is the election of a Democrat majority House, just like LAST TIME it happened.

Trump could lose money if he owned a casino.

He did: in Atlantic City. Reason: he put people he trusted in charge instead of people who knew what they were doing with running casinos. Result: bankruptcy.

So, because you are worried about a recession, you are calling upon democrats to work out a compromise to open the government, right?

He's done **** FOR the economy and untold DAMAGE with his tariffs, tax bill and, now, this shutdown. All built on the lie that immigration is a crisis. It's a serious problem that needs addressed, but it's a crisis only in the minds of tRump and his followers.
