Quebec proposes ban on religious clothing for public workers

To some that is not an option. It is part of their personal identity.

That's their loss. They can identify with 2,000 or more year old works by less educated folks all they like. If your personal identity is dictated by the moral teachings of bronze age human beings, there is no hope for you.

And their choice has nothing to do with you. You are irrelevant to their personal choices. If a Star of David, turban, facial hair, ashes on the forehead sets you off that is a you problem, not a religious person's problem.

I don't care to see what your religion tells you to do. Keep it to yourself.

Why are you so upset that someone may choose to wear religious clothing or jewelry? Do you actually hold the position that we should take away people's freedom to choose what they wear because you disagree with them?

Because lets get real for a moment, that really is the actual issue here.

Would you deny women the right to wear a short skirt because some people object to it? If not, then why would you think it is perfectly fine to force someone to not be allowed to wear what they choose because their beliefs differ from yours?

Your position is terribly intolerant, for no good reason.

Did I say you were religious? No, I didn't.

I never said I was offended either.

I said I want eye for an eye, for the decades of theological morality exertion over the public at large.

Don't like it? Stop supporting faith based policies of sheer idiocy that impact people who don't share that faith.

Let us explore your seething hatred of religion. What exactly has caused this?

Defiance is the only way to deal with a bad law.

As long as I don't get arrested. If you think I'm gonna do something really stupid, you can take the wagon-manger.

I never claimed to be tolerant, and I don't need a reason. That's the beauty of a free country. I can say to the religious whatever I want, just as they can say whatever they want to me.

Good to go. Just keep the law out of it.

Well, see, no. That's not what you said.

I already explained to you what has caused this.

Decades of religious fueled hysteria on the right has co-opted and made a mockery of the republican party. Forced morality through legislative fiat, in the realms of personal choice, marriage, consumption, sexuality, etc.

If the ****ing religious would just have their religion and keep it to themselves my opinion would be different.

However, they want to force everyone to have a morality they themselves agree with.

Wearing it is not the problem. Being faithful in the first place is the problem. Legislative fiat; abortion restrictions, cannabis prohibition, asinine laws that restrict who can sleep with who, social conservative policies are pushed on the public at large via the self righteous and morally repugnant theocratic right in this nation.

I desire to see their "rights" restricted. Eye for an eye. If you want to infringe on the rights of others through legislating your theological morality, then the secular nation we have ought to do the same to these scumbags.

Wow! I don't even know what to say in the face of such a bigoted, hate filled response....I feel bad for you bro....

Explain/ What was done to you?

Well, see, no. That's not what you said.

Well see, what I want doesn't matter because it's not constitutional to restrict those things in public. However, the religious of this country have made it a constitutional issue for abortion, and for cannabis, and did the same for alcohol, etc.

They can wear their stupid ****. And I can mock, deride, and criticize them all I like for doing so. I can also state that I'd prefer them not to wear that **** in public because no one gives a **** which sand djinni you worship.

And they'll win because the first amendment protects religious freedom.
So get over yourself. Wearing religious garb is here to stay.
If you don't like it, move to Quebec. ;)

You might want to knock that chip of your shoulder, it's not unlikely that you may one day need assistance from someone who is wearing some form of religious attire/jewelry.

What would you do then? Tell them to go away?

The entirety of Trump's platform is revenge against Obama, so please, spare me your righteous indignation.

This is so much :bs I don't know where to begin....

Maybe I will. And perhaps the inverse would also be true. The fact remains; if the faithful would stop legislating their faith, I'd have no problem with them doing whatever it is they want to do.

Abortion restriction is overwhelmingly funded by evangelicals.

Absurd amounts of aid from "charitable" Christians are given to Israel, not their brother and sister americans in need.

Cannabis prohibition is fuelled by religious ignorance and proliferated by republicans, who are now inseperable from the evangelical base.

The public at large is forced to tolerate religious discrimination.

BS? What's BS is ignoring that it's going on.

I'm thinking alcohol and or cannabis factor heavily into this.

1. Improper.
2. Doing it wrong.

Eliminate Occam'ses until you find the answer.

Not that interested. I believe I already have the answer.

Well, yes, agreed. But only because I'm 75% German, with German heritage on half my Mom's side, and with the grandparents on my Dad's side (Oma and Opa) being first generation immigrants from the Fatherland.

But...Canada has you all beat, in terms of being the best place to drink one. :)

 There are some spectacular places to have a beer....I remember, while in the military in Germany, we hiked over the mountains into Austria, and at the top of that hike, there was a small Gasthaus there, where we had a few while looking out over the Alps...Stunning!
