For anyone who has forgotten what an amazing orator President Obama is, watch this video..and ask yourself if he can't win alone on just his speaking skills.

No, this is an amazing speaker:

My favorite Correspondence Dinner still has to be Bush in 2006 when he did the skit with a double. Say whatever you want about Bush, but that man could sure poke fun at himself.

I've seen some impressive speeches from him. The one in Tuscon that he has since s--t all over was probably his best, followed by the 2004 DNC speech.

All in all, though, I think he is highly overrated in this regard. Can you name a single major issue in which he has convinced the public and swung them from opposition into his camp?

The problem is we don't need a speaker, we need a president.

It's just the latter part he has trouble with.

I didn't really find it particularly funny. Only laughed at about 1/10 of his jokes, and it's not due to political ideology, since I love the daily show.

Obama is still a pretty good speaker, but I don't know how good of a communicator he is. In this election he can't just talk about hope and change, he needs to convince the public to vote for him again.

Yes I agree with a speech someone wrote for hm he is great at lying his sorry ass off.

He did allow the CIA and the SEALS to kill OBL but he had nothing to do with it past saying Okay.

The credit goes to the work behind the scenes and the Doctor in Pakistan who ratted OBL out, and even President Bush for setting it all in motion..

He did authorize bombing in Libya but they along with Egypt are going to be wore off in the end because of the Shiites.

Obama is s failure.

Do not underestimate Obama. He is an amazing speaker, was an editor of the Harvard Law Review, and is extremely intelligent. This is what makes him so dangerous.

who can't seem to convince anyone of anything...

was an editor of the Harvard Law Review

and the only one in it's history to author no articles....

and is extremely intelligent.

probably very true.

This is what makes him so dangerous.

no... I would say it's his cynicism that makes him dangerous. quite so.

So far he hasn't invaded another country which resulted in the deaths of over 4400 troops and 30,000 troops injured. George W. Bush was by far more dangerous that President Obama could dream of being.

Hitler was an amazing speaker as well.. So, not sure what your logic is on this one? By the way, he can read a good speech, but on his own he's barely average, IMO.

Far more dangerous to the bad guys.

interesting hyperbole.

Thank you for getting it. But I think it's a sound point. Being a skilled orator, being a skilled conversationalist, being a skilled leader, being a skilled president, and being an intelligent policy maker are five completely different characteristics. They don't necessarily beget one another. Hitler was, in my opinion, one of the greatest orators and leaders the world has ever seen. In a few short years, he was able to rally Germany into a fervored, propaganda fueled crusade against the Jews and the rest of the world. This does not mean he was a skilled president (or in his case, head of state), as the decisions he made were not in the best interests of Germany and the German people. I also strongly disagree with his policies.

But back to the OP: your point was that Obama could win on speaking skills alone. Hitler basically did. But that doesn't necessarily mean its a good thing.

I have a friend who swears by the guy. Sometimes I think her "objectivity brain cells" are turned off, when I hear some of the weird rationalizations and almost sycophant-like stuff she says about him. That kind of saddens me because she is an otherwise very fine and intelligent person, she just buys into the whole Obama thing hook, line, and sinker. I often think she should buy the guy a cape as I think she sees him as a modern-day Superman.

Except for people to vote for him, which he did quite well. You blind yourself sometimes.

Good to know we can always count on some one to Godwinn a thread...

You know, this is totally off topic, but imagine if Hillary had become president instead of Obama. Yes, she was gruff and manly, but I think she would have been a good President. At the very least, she would have had more backbone and less patience with the GOP, so it would have been interesting to see if she could have pulled it off. However, she definitely did not have the speaking skills of her husband or Obama, so it would be interesting to see if she could have actually sold her ideas to the American public.
