1 in 15 people in America are now the poorest of the poor according to this article: Poorest Poor In U.S. Hits 1 In 15 People
WASHINGTON (AP) — The ranks of America's poorest poor have climbed to a record high — 1 in 15 people — spread widely across metropolitan areas as the housing bust pushed many inner-city poor into suburbs and other outlying places and shriveled jobs and income.

New census data paint a stark portrait of the nation's haves and have-nots at a time when unemployment remains persistently high. It comes a week before the government releases first-ever economic data that will show more Hispanics, elderly and working-age poor have fallen into poverty.

In all, the numbers underscore the breadth and scope by which the downturn has reached further into mainstream America.

...
Yes, working-age poor, with no part of America left unscathed.

'Tis truly sad.

And not a courageous politician to be found to lead the charge to get our jobs back.

Where and when will it all end?

Those lazy jerks should pay taxes!

Those lazy jerks should pay taxes!

Or move to China or India.

Or learn seamanship in Somalia. Though maybe not right now...

Those lazy jerks should pay taxes!

If those lazy jerks pay 100% of the entire income and asset combined as taxes that would sum to less than 1% of current deficit. How is that going to solve the problem?

why should people who already pay a huge chunk of the tax burden pay any more because that is what the left wants

Folks should do some research on how that data set is really quite worthless.

1) The definition of poor completely ignores the value of the assets of the low income earners. You could be a millionaire, in terms of assets owned, and still make it on that list.

2) The data does not take into consideration all of the entitlements, welfare payments and other transfer payments people receive.

3)

Wait....what? I was talking about the people who are getting poorer. Just sponging off the rest of us. Lazy jerks. They don't even have any federal tax liability and I'm supposed to pay to help them out because they can't afford to live? **** em, die in a designated "death ditch" and let the rest of us move on.

Kill the rich... KILL THEM ALL

Well, I think your solution is a bit extreme. I'm comfortable with "stop them from stacking the deck in their favor by controlling our government."

yeah, let's give the government ALL the power, so they can screw everyone. Who are we going to complain to when the governemtn screws us?

Of course not. Clearly the answer is to wait for the wealth to trickle down, thanks to the beneficence of multi-nationals. They always know what's best, and have our interests at heart. :lamo

Really, stacking the deck is the 47%, because they don't have to pay income tax.

its up to 51% now

the dem dream-a majority of voters who can be bought with promises that the wealth of others will be distributed to them

Uh....don't look NOW, but the Government is ALREADY screwing us....with Uncle Sam's 13 inch black ****.

Government created the rules and regulations that enforced poor lending practices, that resulted in defaults on loans, and they created the slack tastic system that allowed those crap loans to be bundled, and in a fit of double speech, called "securities" (lol), sold off as safe, rated as such by ratings agencies, and when all of this went to hell in a hand basket, FORCED it's citizens to bail out the companies that floundered, even though the folks that RAN those companies got filthy, stinking RICH...and through ALL of this, NO ONE is being brought up on charges really....a few politicians are going to retire rich, rich men, and few business men are already out of the country, stinking rich, and the rest of us are left with the tab.

All thanks to the government. And that is just ONE instance that comes to mind of how hard, deep, and fast we are being screwed up the brown eyed starfish by dear uncle sam...but don't worry, he wants us to just called it "wrestling", and wants it to be "our little secret".

I would be curious to understand why some seem to think that their position is somehow enhanced by prefacing their opinions with unprovable statements meant to disparage an individual or group. I for one don't bother to pay attention to the remainder of the post.

Now on to my post. The below the poverty level numbers are mostly meaningless as the poverty level is a moving target and reflects the times and economy. By today's standards, all the founding fathers were poor since part of the equation includes indoor plumbing, running water, and the like. Likewise, the poverty level does not accurately reflect the available assets of the poor not counted. Schooling expenses, the cell phone program, disability, government housing, hundreds of other programs are available and utilized. How does anyone come up with apples to apples comparisons?

I assume you were referring to my 13 inch black **** statement?

Stating JUST facts is boring. Think of it as a "spice". Would you like chicken, and JUST chicken, or would you like me to put some salt and pepper on it, too?

The government is screwing the people, except for the lobbyist whom have bought the government to work in their favor.

Don't denigrate the lobbyist. They work in your interests too. They wouldn't have a job, otherwise.

Right, sure was. And ironically I probably mostly agree with you.

I actually like certain lobbyists. Without the guidance of conservative lobbyists the politicians that represent me wouldn't have a clue how to vote. Oh yeah, I hate liberal lobbyists. Hey, I am being honest.
