Poll: Republicans 'Badly Damaged' By Shutdown Battle

Geez--do you eat conservative talking points for breakfast? You are "spinning" like a deranged top....
TRUTH being the Conservative talking points, sure, I'll take that for breakfast, lunch, dinner and all snacks...go ask Michelle what you should be eating, cause its probably different and a lot healthier than the diet I might suggest for ya...:lamo

Here? Here at DP?:lamo. No wonder your posts are so ****ed up....
Listen lady, you cannot hold a candle, as your positions have absolutely zero candle power, to my positions...why don't you put up something, anything, of substance [ substance = of practical importance : meaning, usefulness ]...instead of putting up your continuing mistaken opinions which are of truly limited consequence. If unable to do so, just ignore my posts, please.

My response was to the inane silliness, to many the usual liberal post here, positions and posts so lame-brained as to be beyond the pale, so irksome in having absolutely no meaning, no basis, no thought attached...not even cleverness or humor...just nothing...and while I know it may be considered bad taste to stigmatize those of us with an apparent congenital incapacity to, literally, make any sense, one cannot fail to point it out with an equally inane post every once in a while...

So, voila'

I saw an analysis of the House elections last week in which it was indicated there are about 20 or so seats that are really up for grabs in the 2014 mid-terms and that mostly Democrats are at risk in those seats, not Republicans. Besides, even with popular Presidents, and this one is not with one recent poll showing him at 37% approval, the mid-terms in the second term of a lame duck President are traditionally elections that bring opposition party members to Washington.

Anyone who things opposition to runaway spending and the Obamacare disaster is a negative for Republicans where it counts, with the voters, is nuts.

It won't be that black and white; it never is. Elections will be close again and primarily be decided by media coverage, as usual.

I believe this will be the least close election we have had in my lifetime, shy of economic failure or a huge Obama scandal that actually grabs our attention, I don't see any way for republicans to come close to pulling off the next couple elections.

Of course most of the time my predictions don't come true, especially with football games. Thats why I don't gamble.

Nope. Many of the talking heads are pontificating on this 'badly damaged' but remember after the trouncing (twice the approval/disapproval gap) the GOP got in the '90's for the shutdown they maintained their Congressional majorities AND 'won' the Whitehouse in 2000. Further these talking heads often neglect to address that federal governance on the whole are suffering from this significantly thus NO ONE is unaffected. The electorate has a miniscule memory and my Nov of next year this shutdown will be a faint memory.

Looks like someone doesn't know Rupert Murdock is just as much part of the problem as the rest of them.. You really should get to understand what the "two headed beast" is before making comments like this, I mean seriously...

hint: NBC/WSJ ain't what I was referring to...

You listed two entities and then said two headed beast... Perhaps your writing clarity is more in question than my comprehension of what you wrote?

I listed two entities and then said "The MOUTHS of the two headed beast"

In this sentence NBC/WSJ are mouths, not beasts. The mouths of the two headed beast, so part of the beast; the mouth of, but not the beast itself.

"There is nothing outside the text" -- Derrida

So no, it is your comprehension which is in question here. My clarity is crystal...

Yes, you are flawless and all of your English teachers should be flogged.

Listen closely lady, we have had discussions previously, and wow, I do not have one worry in not taking YOUR advice about much of anything, especially on politics and the path MY party should be taking.

What you should do, friendly advice, is work on your OWN short sighted party's route as the president decides to trample on WW2 vets, white house tours, his three years to prepare for the roll-out of HIS WONDERFUL SELF'S boObama[Idont] Care[causeImnottheonepayingforit] where the only one's in the media with the true pelotas to ask what in Hades is going on is Jon Stewart of Sebilius, or with maybe Wolf Blitzer making a "mistake" in agreeing with the Republicans on delaying this massive failure for a year would be fair, seeing as its not working AND his wonderful self somehow giving a delay on the Employer Mandate, the Congress subsidies for being in boObama[Idont]Care [causeImnottheonepayingforit] , all his friend's in industry and unions getting sweetly exempted from the stupid thing....then we have the biggest potential government fiscal fiasco in memory and he will not even negotiate... while claiming the other side is inflexible...the other side that had offered to negotiate from the beginning, that had sent over bills to fund just about as much of government to keep it up and running...rejected by reedy voiced Reid and the boob....mind your own party lady...the one destroying my country.

I have enough bones to pick with my party, and its not anything like what you are suggesting.

Then you are blind as a bat and confused as hell.....The piecemeal attempt was dead from the gitgo and they knew it, but they thought it would make themselves look compassionate and the Pres look bad..Unfortunately, for your Ted Cruz tea partiers, it backfired big time... It was a trick and it was perceived as a trick....Stick with the losers and you will do fine...:lamo

Truth as seen through the eyes of the deluded and soon to be disillusioned as well...

Especially because the GOP seems intent on nominating weirder and weirder candidates. It may work in the tea party ghettos of the south, but it will surely result in more GOP losses at the statewide and national levels.

That was a pretty funny post..kudos.....However, you are so wrong on literally "everything" that it's difficult to point them all out... Mandates--why postpone them when they are needed to fund the ACA... Doesn't Congress already have their own insurance? Don't the corporations have health insurance on their employees? Then why do we care that they were exempted? The ACA is mostly for people who have no insurance at all... would you agree with this?

The little green man laughs first, we will see who laughs last... we certainly are not going to let you and your fellow socialists ruin this fine country, bank on it...

Oh yeah, socialists don't really believe in banks, who needs 'em when you can just share, or at least steal...and of course spread all the poverty, eh?:lamo

As I have explained to you previously if we were to postpone the mandate the Ins Co's would bail from the exchanges thus opening the door for single payer. Further IIRC only ~$20b of the ~$150b required will come from the individual mandate...the business mandate was responsible for ~$50b which was delayed.
Doesn't Congress already have their own insurance?
Yes, from Ins Co's who are now in the exchange.
Don't the corporations have health insurance on their employees?
Yes...so what?
Then why do we care that they were exempted?
As stated previously much of the revenue for ACA was to come from them...
The ACA is mostly for people who have no insurance at all... would you agree with this?
???...medical devise tax, no lifetime maximums, CG tax increase, various regs on minimum coverage, etc. no not mostly...

This week? I like how this sounds:

The folks you see on TV are much too sure of themselves. They've been making too much of thin slices of polling and thinner historical precedents that might not apply this time around.

There's been plenty of bull****, in other words. We really don't know all that much about how the shutdown is going to be resolved, or how the long-term political consequences are going to play out.

The rest is a quite interesting read:
Nate Silver on the U.S. government shutdown - FiveThirtyEight

Probably not.

If by 2016, Obamacare hasn't ruined the country, dems are going to redicule republicans to no end over their statements about Obamacare, and won't have a chance of winning anything, not even a local dogcatcher election.

I think that's why the GOP is so desperate to delay it. They don't want the kinks worked out before elections. If people like it, they'll remember the years and dozens of votes and dire predictions of death panels and the end of liberty and freedom. They put their entire party into one basket: Hating Obamacare. If, once the kinks are worked out, the people like it, then the GOP is going to have a ****load of crow to eat.

No more preexisting conditions on Jan.1st..Imagine new Year's eve..
All this shutdown has done is raise the ACA by 7%..
And now their changing position is on 'fixing' ACA, not defunding it.

This week? I like how this sounds:

Paul Ryan op eds without mentioning ACA..He did mention Cantor's hit list--the big 3..Then Ryan got spanked by Red-state Erickson..Then Ryan apologized later on B. Bennett..Overnight Tuesday, Kochs lost millions and USA lost billions on Treasury Bills..Then Kochs send letter to 'real' Repubs in Congress..now we're 'conversing'

If Obamacare is running smoothly before the next election, imagine how hilarious those clips of Palin and her ilk, talking about the end of America as we know it, are going to look getting replayed on youtube.

Truth as seen through the eyes of the deluded and soon to be disillusioned as well...
If our guys don't bend we will be just fine...that is what worries you folks. Better hope they don't, if they buckle and this government spends like they want to, who knows what the future will bring...be all on y'all tho, we tried to add some sense to the equation.

Yeah...and if it's not...the medial spectacle will be liken to a continuous loop of the OJ chase. I really don't look forward to either. ;)

Paul Ryan op eds without mentioning ACA..
Perhaps he realizes that there was no way the GOP was going to advance the ACA repeal/defund movement without more power. I will note that it was an extreme initial negotiating position which is commonly touted as a logical position.
He did mention Cantor's hit list--the big 3..
Yeah...and considering annual federal revenue roughly equals Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and interest on the debt ONLY perhaps one day we will address these instead of the paltry discretionary spending amounts.

Then Ryan got spanked by Red-state Erickson..Then Ryan apologized later on B. Bennett..
Ambiguous...please explain

Overnight Tuesday, Kochs lost millions and USA lost billions on Treasury Bills..Then Kochs send letter to 'real' Repubs in Congress..now we're 'conversing'

I think we are 'conversing' now because the President reversed his 'I will not negotiate' position...again.

BTW, do you REALLY believe two private guys wield this much power nationally? REALLY?

NONE, and I mean NONE, including the likes of Norquist have described this TEAtantrum as common..As M. Lee said, defunding is so last week..

Yeah...and considering annual federal revenue roughly equals Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and interest on the debt ONLY perhaps one day we will address these instead of the paltry discretionary spending amounts.
Where were the "conversations" before cantor's August holiday which allowed Kamakazie Kruz to start the forest fire in a tinder-box??

Ambiguous...please explain
You missed Tuesday's response to Ryan's op ed by Red-State Erickson and Ryan walking back his op ed on Bill bennett..I guess I might too if I was getting creamed..

we are conversing because of the spanking given to the Repubs by the Koch brothers letter.
