Mentally disabled v. retarded. Hearing impaired vs. deaf. African American instead of just black. Obese instead of fat. Asian instead of oriental.. blah! It's all just silly nonsense.

Wanting something to be called incorrectly is PC. Even wanting something that is sometimes called correctly, and other times called incorrectly, is also PC.If a person goes out of their way to use a term then it is PC, if not, then no big deal. Calling something correctly is not being PC.

...or a good thing. What bothers me is that people think that political correctness is somehow a bad thing.
I have posted examples previously in this thread. Feel free to seek them out.example????
Yeah, so at my job I'll go to up to all the kids with Autism and say "you're all retards" and see what kind of reaction I get. Obviously it's their fault if they're offended and I lose my job, because they're stupid retards.

Exactly. I met some people and the I was interested in where they were from since they were dressed really nicely in ethnic clothes. They said they were Persian. I clarified and asked if they were Iranian and they insisted that they were Persian. I said fine, but I was thinking that the Persians ended as an entity a loooong time ago.
Who cares?
Really bitch?
Oops.....
Note for those who do not understand: the use of the word bitch in this case was representative to make a point, I was not calling nor do I think Evanescence is a bitch. I would have used a different word that would have been more effective except the word filter would have killed the effect.

I don't know how you came to that conclusion, but I bet it has something to do with retardation. Then your entire argument about being politically correct or polite is meaningless.
Uh, no, but what do you think my premise is if you came to this nonsensical conclusion? Then you agree that your original premise on political correctness in this thread, and in every other thread has been wrong.
Yeah, but in your post, you place "mentally disabled" in the "silly nonsense" category of PC words indicating that "retarded" is the word that you prefer and apparently think is perfectly fine regardless of whether or not you use it. Spud's point seems to be that it's not all "silly nonsense" because if using "mentally disabled" instead "retard" was just "silly nonsense" then it would make perfect sense to walk up to a bunch of Autistic kids and call them retards.I already stated that I would not call a child retarded. But nice hyperbole.

Wrong about what? You said my arguments have been inconsistent. Are you going to explain why or just distort my arguments (which is an insult in itself)?Using insults only demonstrate how pathetically wrong you are.
You actually didn't. You said, "Then your entire argument about being politically correct or polite is meaningless" and "Then you agree that your original premise on political correctness in this thread, and in every other thread has been wrong" without any explanation.I said you were wrong. And I've already explained why. Feel free to actually read the thread.
We have had a few discussions on the topic of politically correct topics lately, and it reminded me of a conversation on these boards from quite some time ago. I cannot remember what the discussion was about so the other person will remain nameless and hopefully unidentifiable. Who it is is not important. What I am going to ask is if I was being politically correct in this discussion.
Conversation: something about Asians, some one calls Asians "oriental", another person points out that properly, the correct term is Asian.
Me: I learned some time ago that Asian refers to people, Oriental to objects, so I always use Asian
Other person: You are just being Politically Correct.
Me: I don't think I am, it is effortless on my part to say Asian and I then don't have to worry about offending any one accidentally.
Other Person: Exactly, you are trying not to offend, so you are being PC.
Now, obviously this is somewhat paraphrased and condensed from a longer conversation. What I want to know though, is in the example I gave as I gave it, am I being Politically Correct to use the term Asian instead of Oriental?
I don't know. You haven't explained it yet. But a distortion has a clearly occurred if you think that my "original premise on political correctness in this thread, and in every other thread has been wrong" because I said, "We don't need to do anything." So what is the distortion? Why is my argument "meaningless" because I don't think we need to do anything? How have I distorted your argument?
BTW, I've heard several guys say that an oriental woman is very exotic. So no, the word "oriental" is not strictly about items. "Oriental" has more to do with a culture and as such can apply to either people or items.
Yeah, if they're talking about how "oriental women" are "exotic"... they're still talking about objects.
