Pick A Socialist Policy That Would Greatly Benefit America

Pick 1 socialist policy that would benefit America

It’s funded by oil revenue

Partially, but from a combination of means.

The Alaska Permanent Fund is a sovereign wealth fund (SWF), which invests in a wide array of asset classes, including domestic stocks, U.S. bonds, global stocks, real estate, and private equity.

Management of the fund is by the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation. After completion of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, which introduced Alaskan oil to the market in 1976, Alaska’s government added a state constitutional amendment setting aside a share of oil revenues for future generations of Alaskans. The revenues from these natural reserves form the basis of the Alaska Permanent Fund.

If foreign companies use their rigs or land then maybe they pay a heavy tax and that’s used to support the fund. I don’t know the specifics but, I think it’s a good idea.

Medicare for all.

And expand Medicare to cover dental and vision costs.

And pay for all seniors' caregivers and the cost of retirement homes.

That is already being done. Taxing X is not the same as nationalizing or socializing X.

Since I could only choose one, I went with medicare for all. Health costs are still prohibitively expensive for millions of people. Imagine the boost to the economy if all that money were freed up for more consumer spending, or to buy a house; or the boost to productivity by having fewer people dropping out of the workforce or taking time off for illnesses.

However, some of the others on the list would be good too. Free or subsidized college, paid time off, etc.

Hmm… spoken like a truly greedy (and fully retired) man in his 80s. ;)

How do you propose to pay for this massive Medicare expansion?

I would support this tbh.

That way all that money grandma saved doesn’t go to greedy healthcare execs but rather stays in the family.

1. Do NOT pay reparations.

2. Do NOT pay off students' loans.

3. Cut fat in the military budget.

4. Tax the super rich. (Many of them really are nice people that want to help their fellow Americans.)

If long-term care was socialized, no "greedy execs" would own the facilities. As it stands now, you either pay for someone to take care of your elderly, qualify for Medicaid and/or provide the care yourself. We are slow rolling into a crisis.

None. They screwed up my health care. I certainly don’t want the govco to be in charge of the oil and gas company’s. $5. Gal gas would be the norm. I know that when we can dump China Joe and replace him with a r then prices will tumble Back down. that will never happen with a bunch of socialists running big oil.

I voted Medicare For All.

And how does this get paid for.

Methinks grandma's family will be paying higher taxes. And Grandma can thank them.

I voted other.

Which means NAFP (not a program).

There are maybe 7K “super rich” people in the US, yet there are over 330M other folks. That seems to mean that each ”super rich” person would have to pay for the expanded Medicare benefits of over 40K people.

It was between Medicare for All and public ownership and extraction of natural oil and gas à la Norway. I picked Medicare for All. It would be the best policy for the United States out of all the above.

Universal healthcare. (Worried about revenue? Cut military spending. Ruthlessly go after sweetheart MIC contracts. Close offshore and tax loopholes. End agro subsidies to international combines. Etc.)

Alaska has like 50 people in it, The US 330 million plus,it would probably work out to $100 bucks a person????

I wonder how much really

Or it could end up like AMTRAK and cost the taxpayers money every year.

You do know The IRS takes donations right?

My pick is nationalizing the oil and gas industry and dispersing the profits among society rather than a few big execs
All of those would work. I'm a big fan of universal health care.

Also, the policy I would like most enacted is constitutional reform to decisively shut down the nonsense Buckley v Valeo 1976 'money is speech' SCOTUS ruling that has resulted in the constitutional protection of unlimited political spending and the country's plutocratization and governmental/regulatory capture by multinational corps, but that's not exactly a 'socialist' position exclusively.
Also since it's mostly captured, there's little chance that Congress will pass a constitutional amendment like that.

Of the ones on your list, we should have:
- Medicare for all
- UBI

We should not have:
- Federal jobs guarantee
- Universal paid time off (except for paternity/maternity leave)

I'm undecided about free college, but I'm slightly leaning against it right now. Maybe some day, but it's not a high priority. Medicare For All and UBI are more important, and all things considered I think the American college system is already among the best in the world. I'd rather fix what's broken.

Rather than nationalizing the oil/gas industry (which I do not support), we should have a Land Value Tax (LVT) which includes the value of all natural resources on a property.

Using that figure we could estimate it.

First let’s subtract 70 million children from the figure of 330,000,000.

330,000,000
-70,000,000

110,700,000,000/260,000,000= $425 roughly
