Why do people throw these cards out? I have one 2 occasions had the race card thrown at me.

In the first case, I was working as a security guard. The mall I was working at was being evacuated. I was posted at an entrance to stop people from entering. A black male entered. I said I'm sorry sir the mall is being evacuated I can't allow you to enter. He said I just need to use the bank machine (which was about 20 ft behind me). I said I'm sorry I can't allow that. He said is it because I'm black? (Up to this point I was polite.) I said use the machine and then use the door. I guess he could see the chaos around and apolized on his way out but also remarked that I didn't have to be rude.

In the second case, I and my shift partner got into an argument with a co-worker about her not performing her job. Leaving many things for us to do during the day. She filed a complaint with HR saying we attacked her because she is black. This lead to a mediation meeting. A meeting she walked out of because she felt ganged up when others came forward in our defense saying they have had the same issues with her. Some of these people were also black. She withdraw her complaint. HR found no fault in us just that we should have took it to her supervisor instead of her.

I don't understand why people do this. I'm gay. I have never thrown the gay card but know that some do in the same fashion I have mentioned above.

it's a real problem, it haults our progress. People need to stop becoming so bitter and move this society along.

Well, sometimes people will have a go at you because you ARE gay. It does happen, quite a lot actually, perhaps even more so to black people or Hispanics. When that stops happening people will stop being paranoid about it when it is NOT happening. Simples.

Lol my friend I feel your pain. I have friends who do that and they are so blatantly wrong that I am compelled to tell them to shut the **** up. There are people who really face discrimination, so for someone to just throw it out there because they dont like how a situation is playing out becomes very annoying. A perfect example is how Lebron James tried to say that people reacted so negatively about his move to Miami because he was black. Ignoring the fact that he lead Cleveland on for two years about his return, and embarrassed the entire state on national TV. Or Kanye West trying to say that people react to him so negatively after the Taylor Swift Incident because he was black. He also ignored the fact that he stormed onto the stage with a bottle of Hennessey and declared that someone else deserved her award. I hate ignorance

For some of the extremists here, if you are not on the left you are a racist homophobe.... :prof

Links or GTFO...

Nah that's for downstairs. And note I said "some"... there is a certain few that do this.... check out some of the "tea party" threads, I've been called a racist and a homophobe on more than one occasion in them...

The best though is when folks call other posters racists against blacks then find out that poster is black... ;)

Truth hurts doesn't it? Hahah j/k

If you are white then you couldn't understand. A white person never has to ask themselves, "was I treated in that fashion because of the color of my skin?" Whether we like it or not, people are still treated differently based on their skin color and we may treat others differently based on their skin color and not even be aware of it.

I've been called a homophobic bigot on this forum on more than one occasion.

I'm aware that people will do/say things to me because I'm gay. However, I'm talking about situations like I mentioned in the OP which are not so obvious.

I had someone who use to work for the same company I do, tell me not to come out at work. She listed a few times when she felt that her being gay caused others to treat be harder on her. I didn't see it the same way. I work with one of the people she was talking about. I don't hide my sexuality at work. I have no clue if this person knows I'm gay but don't feel I'm treated differently.

You got that right, jews have the holocaust and the blacks have slavery; and it solely the white man's fault. White people never did anything right. I think we have the talking points down now.

Well, my point really is that oppression and discrimination will cause paranoia amongst those who have suffered from that oppression and discrimination. If you've suffered, you will be on a constant hair-trigger, on constant look-out for recurrence of the behaviour. Sometimes you'll get it wrong, as with this colleague of yours by the look of it. It's regrettable but inevitable.

Of course there's another aspect to this. Racists and homophobes would have everyone believe that their racist and homophobic opinions are nothing of the kind and that anyone calling them out on their rancid attitudes is just imagining things. It's like the birthers claiming that their obsessive pursuit of Obama's birth certificate has nothing whatever to do with the President's race or skin colour. Sometimes racist and homophobic behaviour is just that and we should not be cowed into calling people out for it for fear of being called paranoid or over-sensitive.

This is very unproductive, and will be the downfall of this country. The problem is blacks had been slaves in the past, which was such a huge mistake for our society to have done this to innocent people. So, we're always going to pay for it cuz it was bad, very bad. The mistakes of the past will catch up to you in the end, sadly.:(

I and my family had nothing to do with it.

who exactly?

Really?

it is common now, when so many right wingers are out of the closet, so to speak.

is it racist? on some level, for some people, i'm sure it is. others just hate obama because he's not a member of the right party, and no accolades he receives will be deserved, in their minds.

You said:
i seriously believe the tea movement is for the most racist. but that's just me.

I wasn't blaming white men for anything. I was simply speaking in terms of mainstream culture. White people have the priviledge of not having to think about their skin color.

yes, you libeled me with idiotic commentary, but I was refering to your post about how folks were unkowingly racist against Obama (yeah I saw that).....

Yes, people can unknowingly treat individuals differently on the basis of their skin color. That has been shown in studies. I did not call that racism, it is simply an unconcious bias.

I don't think most people "pull the race card" intentionally. I think people grow up recognizing how their race, etc. affects others' treatment of them and then associate any or almost any negativity directed towards them as based on race, sexuality, gender or other things. I imagine people who do this often have had more exposure to racist/homophobic sentiments. It always comes back to experience from what I see and for that reason, it's hard for me to get too upset about people who "pull the race card".

This is going to sound harsh and Its not intended too, its merely the truth as I see it. I worked in the inner city for decades and I found blacks and hispanics more obviously racist than whites, I also found that blacks and hispanics prefer to be around thier own. Who would have figured that huh.
Heres some truth, people feel more comfortable around their own, people with their same culture or ethnicity. Aside from that theres no law that says anyone has to like anyone else, Blacks dont have to like whites and hispanics, whites dont have to like blacks or hispanics. The more the race card is pulled the worse it gets.
Ive known blacks and hispanics that have disliked gays more than any whites that ive known. People like to stick the homophobe label on white males, when that distinction cross's all racial and ethnic bounds.
Like one poster said whites dont have to wonder if it was because of the color of their skin that might be true. However, we certainly have to worry that every damn thing we say and do is going to be called racist and everytime we interact with a black or hispanic or gay and we do something or have to make a decision they dont like we we may be accused of being racist or a bigot. Whites are the ones that have to worry about bogus civil rights suits and constant accusations by not only other racists and ethnicities and religions but by other flaming liberals that use it as a weapon. Frankly, whites are so sick of that crap that we dont worry about it anymore....the race card is DEAD, murdered by overuse and incessant whining
