House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that despite Democrats losing the House, Senate, and almost two-thirds of state houses, the American people don't want a new direction. The California congressman appeared on CBS's "Face the Nation" Sunday and instead said the issue facing Democrats is simply a failure of communication.
DICKERSON: “The Democratic Party is in a moment of questioning about its identity. You were reelected to lead the Democrats in the House. What do you tell Democrats who want a new direction and then, go to you, what are you going to do differently?”
PELOSI: “Well, I don’t think people want a new direction. Our values unify us and our values are about supporting America’s working families. That’s one that everyone is in agreement on. What we want is a better connection of our message to working families in our country, and that clearly in the election showed that that message wasn’t coming through. But we are united in terms of the security of our country, which is our first responsibility. To be smart and strong and not reckless in how we protect the American people, strong in how we protect our economy.”

Pelosi also downplayed her party's losses in 2010 and 2016, telling CBS's John Dickerson "You're forgetting that we went up so high in 2006 and 2008."

It's not the ideas, the values or the people, it's the message. The people just didn't get the word, the Dem's ened to work better on messaging...

This woman is in a deep state of denial.

Yep, those hard working folks need welfare, "free" college, "free" medical care and "green" jobs. If that means taxing "the rich" at a 110% income tax rate then so be it. ;)

If the Democrats are about supporting America's working families, why then have they passed so much legislation that hurts America's working families or supported concepts the disadvantage working families? If Democrats are about supporting America's working families, why then was their standard bearer Hillary Clinton who was against so much that America's working families depend on?

It just makes a thinking person shake his or her head in wonderment.

Of course 'rich' is negotiable. Anybody who has any extra cash and isn't on some form of welfare is 'rich' so far as Hillary is concerned.

That comes long after the "if you like your paycheck then you can keep it" tax reform bill is passed. You have to pass it to see what is in it. ;)

Just as OBAMA when ever he finds out that America does not agree with him claims that the messaging operation failed, THAT'S the problem.

They are always sure that they are right, even when they sit with the proof that they are wrong in their laps.

THis level of skill at self delusion takes a special kind of stupid.

That characterization is hysterical.

She's sticking to her ideology. What she doesn't get, is it's not the words that failed them with their message, it was the affect their actions and ideology had and still have on the middle class that failed them. The Democrats can say they "are about supporting America’s working families" but when the actual affect of their policies harms the working class families of America, then people eventually wise up and see the words for what they are - a dogmatic ideological branding of what actually does more harm than good.

So, it IS the ideas (that do more harm than good), the values (where implementation is more important than impact), the people (who fail to listen to the people as a whole and only listen to those in their echo chamber), and the message (which the message is being felt in the pain it causes).

Sticking with fantasy instead of processing reality is proof that leadership has failed.

Producing good leaders is something that America very very seldom does anymore.

Many have pointed this out, not enough Americans care enough to fix the problem.

We tend to have this idiotic idea that we dont need leaders.

And look at where this has gotten us.....

PRESIDENT TRUMP

It's a real question. Does she believe, what she says?

Greetings, JoG. :2wave:

Yes, I believe she does, because she thinks her way is the best way! Why should she change now, even though the public seems to be demanding change in so many areas? :screwy

She has never struck me as someone who is even moderately intelligent.

I think the problem is that politicians of both parties have not listened to the electorate for a long time. When, for example, Obama was elected in 2008, and congress was controlled by democrats, part of that was because people wanted the Wall Street criminals (let's call a spade a spade, here) prosecuted. A great many of them should be in jail. Similarly, there was massive support for a public option on health care, if not a single-payer system. What we got instead was those Wall Street guys getting a huge bailout with which they paid themselves massive bonuses, and a compromise law that ends up mainly bringing a lot of extra business to insurance companies. I suspect we could pick a reasonable progressive and a reasonable conservative from this site, put them in charge, and we'd get a government and policies that are at least closer to what Americans want and can live with. The elites of this country (of which, I fear, Trump is one) are completely out of touch with everyone else.

It was a messaging problem. Trump was better at fooling the voters that he cared about the working class and Clinton was not.

Of course it was a big con job either way, but one side's messaging worked.

I was a very poor salesman but my father was a great salesman and my brother is as well.... I have no doubt about the following statement:

When the audience figures out that the product sucks there is nothing to be done but to get a better product.

Neither a new pitch nor trying to do the old pitch better is going to cut it.

The D's best figure this out.

Thought the Donald was going to drain her along with the swamp, opps not gonna happen.

I don't think that's what he was even referring to. Obviously, that's up to the voters and, well...who holds all three houses? Which party? Go ahead, tell us!
