Path of Exile 2

It took me an embarrassingly long time(I say about a game a week old) to figure out the connection between spirit and minions. Changed gear, going from one with spirit(which I did not think important) to one without and could not figure out why I had fewer minions...

Yeah, also I have to cast an angry look at GGG for assuring us that respeccing would be easy.. it's not. The cost of respeccing a node skyrockets as you go up in levels while the gold income really doesn't. I'm starting to get that old "Do I need to start over?" vibe....

Which kind of sucks since it's really just this one map and this one boss that are the problem.

Oh, @jmotivator , are you using the neversink loot filter? Does not hide anything, but highlights some stuff. Still kinda nice.

I'll check it out when I get home. I've been waiting for someone to put out a loot filter.

THanks.

It's funny, I was just looking up tips of defeating the Act 2 boss and came across a Steam discussion about the fight and the guy complaining was my level with my class and build.

It's pretty annoying when they create a boss that all but demands you build to a specific elemental damage and specific elemental defense... bosses really shouldn't ever by that obviously Rock/Paper/Scissors.

Rangers get really powerful really fast. Poisonburt arrow which poisons enemies, with a corrosion support gem, so it breaks armor, then a passive so you do 33 % more damage against afflicted targets. Bosses just melt...

I finally beat that Act 2 boss. The issue was entirely my defense build.

It was just the full spec Energy Shield that was the problem. It's just weird, you can go full Armor, or Full evasion, but if you go full Energy shield you are in for a bad time.

I just found the weirdest Unique....

Important thing to know:

Even though it feels kind of cheaty, Exalted Orbs are currently the coin of the realm in POE2.

During the campaign levels, never use your exalted orbs yourself since the gear that you can use, at least below level 50 has a price cap of 1 Exalted Orb.
So whenever you get a new Exalted Orb you can go to GGG's POE2 trade portal and buy whatever you want... pretty much.

So I got past the rather pain in the ass boss by buying some gear on the POE trade portal.
MOst of it was defensive stuff, but I found a pair of gloves that are selling insanely well (they are being sold within a minute of being put up for trade!) and spent some time spamming trade requests to buy a pair.

The reason they are selling well is that a lot of people are in the same boat I was in where I had specced for fire damage and then all of the Act 3 bosses are strong to fire and weak to cold. THese gloves are mostly throw away stats except for the last effect that turns 100% of fire damage to cold damage.

I finally landed a pair mopped up the stupid fire boss... which turns out wasn't even the final boss.

Anyway I'm now an Icy Hot witch.

Started this and so far meh. Yes it is beta, but the server side lag sometimes is beyond annoying. And no it is not the internet, nore my PC. Forums are flooded with complaints about it. When 4090s start to experience jerking and lag, then you know there is a problem. It has gotten better, but still happens especially on boss fights.

Still only on act one, as I have started different classes to see what I find interesting. Ended up with Sorc, which I should probably have started with.

The differences in zones can be crazy. Some mobs almost one shot you, and others die when they see you. And then there are the speedy Gonzalez mobs that just swarm you and you have zero chance. Oh and the off screen poison/fire mobs that almost one shot you..not fun. I have been playing online games since 2000 and it is a long time since I have died this much to trash. I am lvl 15 in a lvl 10 zone and getting owned by trash mobs coming at the speed of light out of no where.. sorry but mobs should not be 2x+ faster than you and come in multiple packs at the same time.

Will keep slogging along for now, but not optimistic.. the experience has been..meh and the constant porting back to sell because GGG wants to copy the most shitty part of Diablo 2...

If you are playing Sorc, resist the urge to spec into all Energy Shield defense. It only ends in tears. For a Sorc you should be building Armor/Energy Shield and then swapping out belt charms for whatever the predominant elemental damage for the zone is.

There is a charm that drops fairly regularly that will make you immune to poison twice every minute for 4 seconds. Usually that is enough to give you time to get out of the poison clouds.

they intended for this game to be really hard and they succeeded.

If I have one piece of advice for new players: DON'T USE YOUR EXALTED ORBS. Better to use them in trade for gear.

That suggests there is something wrong. You should not be getting owned at all to those mobs. I am not sure if you are doing something wrong(there are lots of things you can do wrong in PoE2, and I find new ones regularly), something is up with your build, or what, but something is not working right if that is happening.

Come on.. at that level "builds" should not matter. The amount of gear you can have accumulated is limited and you certainly should not get owned by poison throwing crabs.. resists should not matter at that level.

Am now lvl 18, and getting owned by mobs going to the count. Respawning in the middle of 10 mobs ain't fun.

I understand that POE1 fanboys will defend this game to the death, but if GGG want new players, then the scaling at the early level needs to change to make it more welcoming to new players. I mean dying 2 minutes into the game to the first boss mob is hardly "play me" content.

Yes it is beta, and there has been a big patch during the night from what I understand, so we shall see if they are addressing sone of the lower level issues or going to only focus on streamer high level endgame crap.

Well, raging spirits are fun!

Did act 1 final boss. Seen the mechanics before..20 years ago in Everquest, but was the first "different" in the first act. Was enjoyable after figuring out that I had a +50 cold resist chest piece that basically nullified most of his worst AE. Even did it with a friend, and basically soloed it as my friend died fast.

Act 2 is okay, but the caravan thing is a bit annoying, especially when a lot are online. Still getting the mobs rushing you thing, but with the open spaces in most of Act 2, it is not that a big of a problem as I can see them coming for the most part.

I dread the next mechanic unlocks, as the current mechanic explanations have been piss poor in game. Having to Google stuff should not be a requirement...it is beta yes, so hopefully stuff will come.

And the whole skill tree is dreadful.. thought Diablo 4s paragon boards were bad...this takes it to a whole other level.

Now there are positives... I absolutely love the idea of combining skills from different classes... Sorc running minions is just funny..might not be practical but hey it has to be tried.

Honestly, I'm coming to the realization that mages need minions just as much as witches need elemental spells.

I'm still puzzeled by that unique hammer I found a while ago and my head hurts trying to work out how I would actually use a hammer like that. It would take such a dedicated odd-ball build that I feel that by the time you quip it it better be great otherwise you might as well start over.

That said, the stat line that your character gets the benefit of your minion buffs is easily the most intriguing since there are a lot of buffs in the minion passives that you can't get for your own characters.

I feel compelled to try and build a Hammer Witch...

My biggest problem at the moment.. cant play because of the lag-stutter issue that has hit tons of people.

I had stutter for a few days but it's gone now.

I finally finished Act 3 tonight and moved on to Cruelty mode. I'll see how long my patience lasts. 😆

Some pointers on surviving...

1) Defenses matter A LOT in this game and defense has to be multi-tiered. While I hate Energy Shield in this game by itself, it works much better when paired with Evasion or armor since either skill will slow down the depletion. I think early and mid game Evasion/Energy Shield works well... ish, when paired with 40+% elemental defense for whatever elemental type dominates the map you're on.

2) Following on with #1 horde gear with elemental defenses, expect to change your clothes frequently to suit each map.

3) Invest those 300 credits you got with the purchase of the game in some stash tabs.

In the end, pretty much every boss I had trouble with came down to reworking my defenses to focus on their attack types. There was only 1 fight I can think of where damage was my main problem, and even then I just changed my element type on my attack... and I still needed to gear up for his damage type.

Now that I am through the end of Act 3 and back on Cruelty Act 1 I think it will be smooth sailing for a while.... maybe.

The sutter only happens during "prime time".. and it is actually a bug that has existed in POE 1 as well. The servers don't like even small spikes in ping.. so say you have a constant ping of 20ish..if it spikes to say 60 or 100, then you stutter..

After taking a significant break from POE2, and decided to start back and try another new character.

This time I am playing the monk class.

What a difference. I'm sure I will hit a wall eventually, but the monk class in the early game is insanely powerful. I only really need 2 moves through the first act: Vaulting Impact and Falling Thunder

By midway through Act 2 with the right support gems you are making insanely short work of the act bosses. The Executioner, who gave me all sorts of trouble with all my previous classes was killed in under 20 seconds.

Part of what makes Monk so powerful is that his attacks build insane amounts of stun on bosses, and then the other part is how soon the monk class gets access good crit bonuses in the passive tree.

This has been the least frustrating early game play I've had so far and by a lot.

I'm sure it will come to a screeching halt soon enough.

I changed my Monk over to a frost mage when I acquired this ring:

1735678863207.webp

It'd be a good wring without that last line, but with that last line it is utterly bonkers. It's so bonkers that I anticipate that it will be nerfed in the near future.

The reason it is bonkers is because of the synergy it has with the Monk's Herald of Ice buff:

1735679116889.webp

When you have Herald of Ice Buff active, and you are wearing that ring, large crowds will explode in a chain reaction because in the order of operations, all cold damage applies chill first, so you kill the first mob with explodes which then chills and kills the mobs around them and so on. In really crowded maps you can clear entire rooms with one hit. I assume in the Maps portion of the game, where swarms of mobs are common, you could kill a few hundred enemies in a hit.

The bosses that spawn minions are just dead because all of them minions are now bombs.

It's too much fun for GGG to let it stay...

Been dabling in so called endgame in PoE2. There are interesting aspects, but it is frustrating as hell due to "you die you loose everything" mechanic. Add to that an exp penalty, and progression is slow as hell. I like the map idea, but it is frustrating because all you really want is to blast things.. but then you die to random AOE or exploding mob, and all your progression is lost. Only positive is you cant delevel.. The Trials are interesting, but again death = fail is frustrating, but at least some what acceptable in a trial aspect.

All in all Diablo 4 season started, and welll back to Diablo 4 for a while.

I'm not into the whole competitive gaming scene, but decided to watch a POE2 race this weekend and it was... enlightening? It was funny to consider all the talk that goes into the story content on games like POE2 and the world's top players clear it to final boss in under 3 hours.
