Path of Exile 2

I'm not into the whole competitive gaming scene, but decided to watch a POE2 race this weekend and it was... enlightening? It was funny to consider all the talk that goes into the story content on games like POE2 and the world's top players clear it to final boss in under 3 hours.
Not hard once you know the progression. All you have to avoid is the bugged mobs and you can quickly get past everything. Cruel is easier than normal...in my opinion. But the bugged mobs and being forced to be "hardcore" aka death = fail, has really reduced my playtime.

Did a trial yesterday, and the final boss was at 1%, went into a scripted part and became invulnerable and did a massive AE.. fail.

Another time yesterday, final mob on a map and I can see him on the map..but he hits me from outside the visual range and kills me. Fail.

Yeah, that kind of thing is what sours me on a game very quickly. I decided to pick up Once Human again because it's a nice mix of survival and ARPG, and this time I wanted to get far enough to challenge the bosses on hard level.

Unfortunately I learned quite quickly that "Hard" level meant they have more gimmicks and invulnerable phases that invalidated you gear and turned them all into quick twitch digital Simon Says encounters.

No thanks.

The problem with PoE2 and in part PoE1, is that they focus far to much on so called "endgame" bugs, instead of balancing/bugs in the base game.

Last major patch, patched a few obvious overpowered mobs that could one shoot you from outside the screen. Problem is they did not do all of them. Take the drowning mob. It can still cast its ball of water from outside the screen or behind a wall where the engine hides it (don't get me started on that mess). Now you can say, then move out of that ball of water..sure but other than being a massive dot, it is is also a massive slow. So that ball of water plus other mobs beating on you and ranged casters.. insta death. As a mostly melee character it is really annoying, as you can't do anything.

There are other annoying bugs or balance issues, but the outside from screen mega DPS mobs is still a problem and the fact the game relies on packs...so it is usually multiple casters pounding you from outside the screen..

Of course you could just move slowly forward...but damn that slows down the game a ton. Restarting a sorc today, and will play totally defensive. Maybe I won't get perma stuck at lvl 72 this time.

Starting this thread in advance of the release of POE2.

This is shaping up to be the biggest ARPG release is a long time in that it seems to have spent the last 11 years looking at why other ARPGs fail and making an honest attempt at being different.

My only worry so far is that the fixed and elevated difficulty walks a tightrope. It runs the risk of turning all boss battles into un-fun D4 Lilith clones where player power is irrelevant and only quick reactions matter.

That's my way of saying I'm old and slow. :D

Anyway, looking forward to this game, and I've purchased my early release copy. *fingers crossed*
Turns out it isn't very good at all.

Too slow and the bosses are way, way too difficult.

Hopefully they fix it.
