Be very very specific as to how you feel a black person is entitled to reparations for slavery that was committed 140 years ago.
The Federal Government pays the following to people in poverty. These programs are not specific to black families, however 41.6 percent of the black population and 36.4 percent of the Hispanic population participated in at least one government assistance program in a given month.
The top federal programs are:
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps)
Medicaid and the Health Insurance Marketplace.
CHIP (Child's Health Insurance Program)
Housing Assistance
TANF (temporary assistance for needy families)
EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit)
Head Start
Federal Pell Grant Program
I'm sure there are other programs available.
I'm sure there are programs at the state and local level such as free college at state colleges.
When combining both federal and state programs, the cost is nearly a trillion a year.
Let's go one step further. All the Hispanics in the concentration camps, should be freed immediately and given a reparation check. 51 percent of immigrant (legal) led households in the US are enrolled in one or more government welfare program.
Is this specific enough for you?
If you can prove that someone was specifically effected by slavery 140 years later, then give that person a check, but you can't.
Yes you would because its being argued that the debt is not owed by individuals but by the federal gov. So everyone who pays taxes would be paying the debt.

You have the "freedom to leave at any time. You are correct that we have squandered liberty in many cases. It is why the 2cnd ammendment is as important as ever. Our government is only as totalitarian as we allow it to be.
We can be that shining city on the hill but we can not force people into the light nor can we isolate ourselves in an ever smaller world.
Again, you have the freedom to leave; rejoice that you do not have to.

So, IOW, you cannot cite any reparations that have actually been paid to black people. I'm not sure you understand what that word actually means.
Thanks!
I knew you were going to come up with that statement. I get it, programs for poverty versus money for wrongdoing. 41.6 percent of black families are taking advantage of these programs.
I knew you could not give me any specifics on how a black person would be entitled to reparation for wrongdoings that occurred 140 years ago.
Are we paying reparation for slavery or discrimination. The politicians need to be specific.
Lol those are great questions that i cant answer. Its not my plan nor do i support it. I was only answering your question of if you would be paying for it. The answer to that question is a big fat yes.OK tell me how are you going to identity all the blacks who were a slave, after all not all blacks were slaves, then trace down all their decedents, and are we going to base the payment on how much slave blood they have. IE they great great grandfather was a slave but married someone who never was, who also married someone who never was, who also married someone who never was, so of a payment 1/8, or are you going to say each slave is entitled to x and divide that up?
And what about the state the never had slavery, going to make them pay too? After all they sent people who died, what about them? Shouldn't the get something for freeing the slaves? And what about all the people who fought to free the slaves should they also get something? And who's going to pay for that.
Look we have already spent a LOT of money, had affirmative action (1961), job set asides , etc. At some point you have to say enough is enough, stop blaming other people. Many MANY poor people have come to this country and make it, and they had to study to become a citizen, learn the language.
No, you didn't.
Sorry you can't cite any reparations that have been paid to black people. I knew you didn't know what that word actually means.
Still, fun to watch you pretend.
Are in politics or going into politics. Nice job avoiding the question. You don't know why you want to give reparations. It is because of party affiliation? At least I know why reparations don't make common sense.
Look up the meaning of common sense.
It's dumb that you think I posted an analogyDumb analogy.
There is smart and stupid use of our tax dollars. Roads, courts and defense are smart uses of our tax dollars (for the most part, there are exceptions). Paying reparation for a wrong 140 years ago stupid use of tax dollars.
So your view as a Brit is that freedom in America is an illusion? I assumed you were speaking from experience.Leave where, England? I'm very happy being English and living in England (as you would have noticed if you bothered to look at where it says 'location'), but thanks for the suggestion.
No, let's be honest and agree that this is just your opinion based in nothing but idle speculation. What 'ploys' do you think are used to buy your vote?

Those are all good questions to ask somebody who supports the idea of reparations but i am not someone who does.not only do i think that they are not rntitled to any form of compensation i slso think its s dangerous path to ho down. But if someone is going to pay, and my someone I mean us all, shouldn't those questions be part of the discussion? Long before we get to the point of who's going to pay shouldn't we know who's going to get the funds?
The whole reparations thing is a joke, it only divides us even more. There were many blacks who were never a slave, who had the same opportunities that any person who came the US had. Should they also get reparations, even though they were never slave? Really there is no way to do this, and give the government programs that are in some cases 70+ years old, when do you say it's time to stand on you own?
It isn’t about individuals having excuses to not participate involuntarily in reparations. It’s about our society, which everyone is a part of, being responsible for slavery and all the harm done thereby and therefrom for which our society has never atoned. It is our society that owes the reparations. Don’t take it personal. I’m sure there are many things everyone’s taxes pay for that many of us can justify we should not pay just as well.
Remember, the GOP used to be the party of Lincoln, who not only “freed” slaves but also agreed to the “40 acres and a mule” reparations to former slaves. However, he was assassinated and just as the reparations began Johnson, the new president and Lincoln’s VP, put the kabosh on the whole thing.
I don’t believe the subject of reparations has any correlation to the Great Society as assumed in the OP.
No, because they are different things entirely.
LBJ’s Great Society policy, affirmation action, and other like programs objectives were to level the playing field by helping historically disadvantaged groups.
Reparations is simply payment for damages done to certain groups.
Reparations is simply payment for damages done to certain groups.
Let’s be honest, this is simply a political ploy to buy the black vote.
That is correct.
Some people do not do very well because:
1. They do not apply enough effort.
2. They are not too bright in certain areas. (E.g., I am as stupid as they come in math and the sciences.)
3. They are satisfied with just doing enough to get by.
Leave where, England? I'm very happy being English and living in England (as you would have noticed if you bothered to look at where it says 'location'), but thanks for the suggestion.
Hey, Limey, take your opinion to the pub.
Yes you would because its being argued that the debt is not owed by individuals but by the federal gov. So everyone who pays taxes would be paying the debt.

Deliciously irrelevant. Your ignorance of history is meaningless.

That question has already been answered. And the claim of 10’s trillions of dollars (adjusted) is dubious at best. Then what have we been spending Trillions (That's with a "T")on when adjusted to inflation?
Yes, they have benefited.And.... these groups that you speak of have benefited $$$$$$(wink)
