No kidding half of all U.S. farm workers are undocumented

Would some of the unemployed government workers be Trump supporters or is Trump only to fire without cause because they didn't vote for him?
Neither.

I agree with you that some Trump supporters would not do manual labor in the field. They are not qualified. :giggle:
You are not agreeing with me because I didn't say any such thing.

Don't try to assign your bias to me. I won't take it.

Trump will bust a bunch of people, make a big show of cruelty to amuse his supporters and other masochists and then find something else to do. Hopefully. God help us if he builds camps or if he tears thousands of families apart.

no one is going after migrant farm workers..But it does show Congress is hopelessly unable to have a workable migrant farm worker program.

As far as I can tell criminal aliens are top priority / then those who have had court hearing and were ordered deported ( lots of these)
Then asylum seekers who were not vetted and are homeless or on the streets with no legit claim

But it's really difficult to say how it plays out because the usual suspects will try to stop removal of asylum seekers who have have been let in without demonstrable "credible fear" claims

There is no interest in going after farm workers. Best stop starting these "mass deportation threads".
Ya I know Trump isn't helping the matter by hyping it up either, but we need to see how it goes with the earlier categories first

As I understand it. They are all Illegal Aliens and criminals. So they all need to be deported immediately. If the Farmers want their crops in they can pay a decent wage to Americans.

And you'll be the first to complain when a head of lettuce costs $10.00. But that won't happen because the average American will not work the backbreaking work in the fields regardless of what it pays. The crops will rot in the fields.

I live in farm country and many get about $5.00 per hour in cash that isn't reported. Many live in community property or live in a bus, almost like slaves.

That's a good point. Even what we consider substandard might look like a windfall to some of these workers. Outpacing anything that was available to them in their home countries.

They're used to living on far less in many instances. A Mexican restaurant opened across the street from one of my Mom's vacant rentals, and a guy came to her looking to rent it. He mentioned that there would be 9 people living there, so the rent would be no problem. When my Mom pointed out the place was only two bedrooms, he said they didn't mind; it would be just fine. They might have seen a single bathroom as luxury. My daughter visited her husband's family in Juarez, and they carried water into the house from an outside hydrant. There was a bathroom with a toilet, but it was flushed with a bucket of water kept there for that purpose. Who knows where the black and gray waters went?

The job availability for illegals in this country has to be eliminated. You attack a black market by attacking the customer demand.

Since the average American makes about 65,000 a year, you're probably right. The jobs would have to be filled by lower earning Americans.

The agribusiness that depends on those low wage workers will never allow politicians to take away their cheap labor. There are 3 chicken and egg processors locally that get busted every 6-9 months for bringing in undocumented workers that they rely on. I doubt that Americans would do those jobs for less than a living wage. (20.00+ an hour)

Then the black market for illegal workers won't be eliminated, because that's the only way to do it. Make the penalties stiff enough, and the employers being busted twice a year will soon get tired of that shit.
\
Put some jail time into those penalties.

There's a perhaps apocryphal story about a local tough guy up in front of the county judge for being in a bar fight or such. The judge pronounced sentence on him. "Mr. Smith, you'll pay a fine of a hundred dollars."

Now, this was when a hundred bucks was quite a sum in this backwoods county, but Smith was unfazed.

"That ain't no problem Judge. I got that right here in my ass pocket."

"And 90 days," the Judge continued. "Got that in your ass pocket too?"

Fine with me. I have land and can plant a garden. Trump was elected with a mandate to get rid of all the illegals and I expect nothing less.

If they start to heavily fine and jail the employers it will change but there is no political will to do that right now. The xenophobic GOP want to blame the workers instead of those who hire and exploit them because they immigrants are desperate to improve their place in life.

Migrant competition beginning during the 1950s pretty much did away with poor Black and White farm labor. Google "Harvest of Shame" to see who mostly worked the fields in the good old bad days.
Just who should work the fields?

First of all, it's obvious that you are math challenged. I mean, I'm not a math whiz, but even I can see that half of 73% is not equal to half of 100%.

Anyway, farmers are just going to figure out how to make up the loss of 36% of their labor force. I have no sympathy for them, since they've been breaking the law for decaded.
Hope the boots taste good.

Did our resident genius in the Whitehouse as of tomorrow even think of this when he's vowed to deport all undocumented people? Damn will we be able to by chickens and eggs even if we can afford them? How about other farm products?

73% of US farm labor are migrants. The USDA estimates that half are undocumented. Given the significance, why is this overlooked by conservative rural America?

I'll pay more money for food if it means Americans have better jobs.

I keep saying that "We need those illegals so we can get cheap food!" is a TERRIBLE argument for allowing undocumented people to stay and work here.

Its like saying "We need to exploit those dirt poor peasants so we can keep inexpensively stuffing our faces!!"

Its not a good argument. really there is no good argument for not enforcing immigration law, although I understand and am fully aware that most of what Crooked donnie will do is beat his gums and pontificate. Its not even possible to "round up" millions of people when you dont know exactly where and who they are.

He never did explain to them when America was great did he......

The+Grapes+Of+Wrath+2.jpeg

.....guess they might now just be figuring out that it propably means that they'll be the ones picking grapes again, because of his wrath.....

.....bonus for us I guess is our housing and healthcare and everything else might get real cheap, a mule for this, a chicken for that, a trinket here, a trinket there.

Come now. I see people on this forum I assume are Dems and leftists, crying all the time that their tomatoes will be too expensive and their roofs will cost more. They're a further downstream part of the demand for black market labor.

Fine with me. I have land and can plant a garden. Trump was elected with a mandate to get rid of all the illegals and I expect nothing less.
So what happens when your garden can't supply your vegetables the other 6 to 9 months of they year when it's not viable? Are you going to start canning? That's a lot of work just because you hate those brown people that are taking the jobs you don't want. Or you get a drought and your garden goes to pot?

And lettuce isn't the only thing that would go up astronomically in price. It will affect any product that uses any type of field crop including animals that feed on crops. The price of meat will go up even higher. Think inflation. You really haven't thought this through have you?

Trump was NOT elected with a mandate. He only won by about 1.8 percent of the popular vote. That's hardly a mandate. In any other country there would be a run off, but with our antiquated electoral college...

But you know what? I don't think Trump is going to be successful in his mass deportation. Do you know why? Because corporations and business want that cheap labor and people that will do jobs the rest or us won't. Not only crops would rot in the fields and farmers would go bell under, but also the slaughter houses, meat packing plants, egg production, and on and on. Once again Trump is gaslighting people like you.

I once worked with hispanics in a plant that made rubber moldings for automobiles. One of the hispanics got his arm caught in a machine roller that compresses and breaks apart raw rubber. He'll never gain full use of his arm again but he came back to work. I doubt you would see anyone of the rest of us doing that. And the immigrants I worked with, including people from the countries than Mexico, are some of the hardest working and uncomplaining people you will ever meet from my experience. They put the average American worker to shame. So take your bigotry and ignorance and stuff it.

Do you think the other 60% of farm workers are Trump supporters? If so, perhaps that’s because they see “mass deportation” as a way to get their own pay increased.
I have no idea how many farm workers are Trump supporters.

Pay for farmer workers should not be a Republican or Democrat issue. The low pay is a US issue.

Neither.

sorry, If I mistook what you posted.
You seem to respond with vague answers to many questions.

If the "illegal" farm workers are deported, in your opinion who will step up and fill the void of workers?

One reasonable explanation is that there will be no mass deporations. Donald will make a show of one or two raids to give MAGAs the tingles and then wave something shiny at them to make them forget he ever promised it.
This is the likely scenario.

My answers are not vague. They are just answers you don't like.

shrug...don't know...but I did make a suggestion.

In any case, the farm employers has a lot of time to deal with that possible problem. I doubt the Trump administration will get around to deporting farm workers during the next four years. There are millions of more important illegal aliens that need to be dealt with first.

So is adequate enforcement of US immigration law.

Yea, like Trump is going to reduce grocery prices like he said he would. 😠😡

your track record on other threads does not support that statement.

I take it you have never worked on a farm.

In a reply approved by the Department of Redundancy Department. Let me repeat. I want to see Trump fulfill his campaign promises. I want to see all the illegals deported. I don’t want to see him backpedal. I don’t want to hear it is hard or whatever. I want results. If he fails to do this then his administration is a failure.

As for Grocery Prices. We all know they’re coming down because Trump said he would. I will accept nothing less that all illegals deported.
