Well, now that the lockout is over, we can finally start this thread.

Might watch the Canes, or the Panthers, still won't be the same though.

Just read the article on the CBC. Good stuff. World junior won't be the only hockey I watch this year after all!

Go Habs!

Pfffffttt, whatever...

At least it will be easy for the Canadian players to forget because they won't have a medal around their neck to remind them :2razz:

Oh, damn you, damn you all to hell. I just came to start this thread.....

Season will start either Jan 15(50 games) or Jan. 19(48 games). No word yet on whether they will add 4 teams and an extra, short round to the playoffs or not. Rumor is that the NHL center ice package may be free for this year, but unconfirmed at this time.

I felt bad for the Canadien team. Decent goaltending and they would have made it to he finals possibly, but at the end, their goal tending was just too inconsistent. Oddly, that was an area of strength for the US, which was not expected.

I'll never feel bad for Canadian hockey.

I luv Hockey. Cant wait to see the Blackhawks play. But what do you think about this strike? We have lost most of the season. While the Owners and the players dikked around. Should the fans of Hockey boycott the rest of this year. Letting them take a bigger hit with all the money than they thought. Or should the fans say.....oh well lets get on with it?

Thank. God. I was having tragic hockey withdrawls. The minor league games weren't fixing it.

It was a lockout, not a strike.

True. , lockout for failure to have an agreement/contract between owners and players.

For me, I will not go to any games, nor shall I watch this year. Next season, it all depends on how the owners/players treat the fans this year. It is a shame so many small business rely on sports and have lost out because of the "lockout". I would venture a guess the owners/players could give a rats about the sports bars, sports clothing stores, or the tax payers who helped finance the rink they play in. NHL and the Coyotes may have lost me for good this time.

Yeah it was a lockout and not a strike. Excuse me for rushing into the post to talk about the subject. I was kinda excited to hear the news and see a discussion go up about it. So yeah I misspoke on calling it a strike.

Thanks for pointing such out. Hope it made you feel better. But like Mike pointed out it was due to not having an agreement in place and not even the Union was clearly together over some of the issues.

So I have pros and cons over the issue. Especially since I am not into basketball or the minor leagues for hockey. Plus this will mean shorter practices and a rush to try and play 50 games or thereabouts within 3 months of time.

You are correct Mike.....I was listening to some Small business owners talking about the revenue they have lost already. Especially for the Prices of memorabilia and jerseys. Bars that carried the games.

I will go back to NHL when I the NHL shows that they care about the fans and does something to make it up to us. Guess one good thing is the agreement is for 10 years. I also would definately support no more tax payer rinks being built for the NHL.

Looks like a Jan. 19 start with 48 games. Training camps will open either Friday or Monday. Over/under on days till Crosby's next concussion is 31.

Still a few free agents out there, available as soon as contract is ratified. NHL free agency: A list of available post-lockout free agents - SBNation.com

Looks like Kovalchuch of the Devils is considering not returning. He probably will, but that would be kicking an already down franchise.

No expansion of the playoffs this year.

So now that the season is about to start, Toronto fires GM Burke. They can take solace in the fact that no matter how bad they are this season, at least they won't be as bad as Montreal. But seriously, who waits until a week and a half before a season to fire their GM?

Wow, didn't expect that.

ESPN is saying it might be because he has not traded for Luongo yet. Damn GMs trying to get the best deal possible...

I pictured Luongo going back to Florida anyway. If he doesn't like the stress in Vancouver he sure isn't going to like it in Toronto.

Florida is where he wants to go. Luongo is not going to get Toronto to the playoffs, they have too many needs.

I might start following the Panthers if that happens, they got a good little team down there, and I never formed any real hatred for them since they always sucked worse than we did.

They do have a good team, and it will be interesting to see how they fare. The team I think will be interesting to watch this year is Carolina. They could be really good, or really bad.

Speaking of goaltending, Bryzgalov, could be his last year in Philly unless he performs better. Those contract buyouts are going to be really handy for teams...
