We are currently beta testing a news bot in the US Elections forum. The dp_news_bot will pull 2 election related stories from Digg.com every 12 hours. The bot program has a generous amount of tweak-room available.

Comments and suggestions are welcome and encouraged :2wave:

I don't like him. He won't answer my questions.

Is there room to give the bot a witty and sarcastic attitude?

"Thur takin ur jeeeerrrrbbbssss!!!!" :rofl

Why not just outsource it to Bangalore?

No, it's pretty cool.

I think the dp news bot is an Obama supporter

lol, was kinda thinking the same.

Grrr....

It's a liberal newsbot. It has an agenda. But most of all, it is highly intelligent.

If we must have a news bot (and I don't see why we do), can it at least get its information from a less biased source than Digg.com?

RealClearPolitics would be a good place.

Suggestion from another thread

What the news bot does is impose an agenda onto the board and on our mindsets. It artificially imposes the idea that Ron Paul is even more popular than he seems to be.

This can become a case where with 10% job suitability + 100% manufactured support you will have a self defeating political movement and even with that some will be looking to increase the artificially manufactured acclaim to 120% (if that were possible).

There is nothing wrong with staying abreast of popular opinion but who is leading whom?

Do you want this board to reflect what is on OUR minds? Or do you want just one more homogenizing mechanism in society?

That's what TV does. It has made us all look and sound and think alike so much that the only way our young rebels can manage to be different is to find truly harmful things that are within their grasp but which have no immediate payoff or consequence so they take that drug or risk or political position and then they turn it on the rest of us.

And then we wring our hands and wonder WTF this society is coming to.

Excuse me.

**** the bot.

Look at the topics it has chosen.

Hardly representative of the political opinion of this board and the responses reflect that. But in time the frequency of certain subjects being presented will result in a subconscious following developing and the bot would be the leader.

And isn't that just what we need?

:screwy

If someone wants to improve the board why not try alphabetizing the smilies list, eh?

Huh? TWO of the 19 articles you show reference Ron Paul. I don't know how that's an overwhelming agenda so powerful that it's going to brainwash the board. I think the guy's a shmuck as much as you do, but that's not exactly egregious.

Will we get infracted for flaming, trolling, threatening, or attacking the dp_news_bot?:2razz:

O im glad ive read this i thought was just some guy who wanted to do this for some reason.

I believe the DP news Bot has recently learned the secret of time travel.

It posted two stories today 02-27-08 with the date of 02-28-08. Is there a way the DP news bot can PM me sports scores from tomorrow?

And an update, in one of the threads the DP News Bot went into the future and posted a story, John1234 made a post in response and because his response is technically before the post that the DP News Bot will make tomorrow, the originating post is moved down, after John1234's reply.

The news bot is out of control. I don't see why we need it when we have dan anyway.

./agree dp_news_bot has been beaten up and is now emotionally drained from the competition of danarhea. I hope you are happy dana!! dp_news_bot is currently taking a vaction in the Bahama's. Poor bot...

Anywho, the server may need to be rebooted. This will also affect the search timeout errors. I've a ticket in on this issue as well as a few minor ones that I cannot fix. Tonight they will add back in our backup drive. Hopefully, we can fix this all in one shot.

lol, looks like they reset the server - you know...cuz.
Anyway, sorry if you were affected a few minutes ago.

However after midnight (unsure of actual time), they will be re-adding the backup drive. [I hope]
