New Top Gear Host !!!! (1 Viewer)

You cannot replace Jeremy.

I'll give it a season to see how things go, but I am not of much hope on Top Gear being as good.

Slightly different question - will it be better than the American version of TG?

Chris Evans confirms Top Gear will have a female co-host - BBC News

Chris Evans has confirmed he will be joined by a female co-host when he takes over Top Gear.
The star, who was announced as Jeremy Clarkson's replacement on Tuesday, said the show would star at least one woman, chosen not "for the sake of it" but because of their passion for cars.

Former model Jodie Kidd, who presents Channel 5's Classic Car Show, has already been tipped for the role.

Hmmm....fast cars and hot chicks????

He is the reason I won't listen to Radio 2

Snap! I used to listen to Wogan on the way to work and Johnny Walker on the way home. When he replaced JW I switched to local radio, and when he moved to Wogan's slot I retired!

Probably, it seems to be taking too long for the American Top Gear to find a good following.

With an all-new on air cast and new executive producer, Top Gear should and probably has to change gears (excuse the pun). They need to take it in a different direction. Being as good as the previous generation shouldn't be the goal. It needs to be different.

And lets be completely honest, the previous generation of TG was starting to get a bit stale with a lot of repetition and predictability. And I speak from the vantage point of being a huge fan of the show.

Reasonable points, it just comes down to fans of the series agreeing with you. This was a major revenue generator for the BBC, we'll have to see what kind of hit they take depending upon how far they change directions here.

I can't stand him. I worked on the first year of The Big Breakfast; he was an unbearable ego-maniac and bully and his level of self-congratulation makes Donald Trump look like a modest shrinking violet. Radio 2 will be much better without him. I assume he'll have to give up the breakfast show. You can't really broadcast for 3 hours a day, 300+ days a year and still head off to the far corners of the world to film TG inserts.

Aren't the real cast moving to ITV?

They're in talks, apparently. Thing is, the record of ITV taking over huge BBC talent is very poor. Jonathan Ross was the king of talk shows when at the BBC. He was sacked for bad behaviour on air and signed by ITV, and is now a shadow of his former self, with a very weak show. His replacement, Graham Norton is by far the No.1 talk-show host in the UK, working in Ross's exact same slot on BBC1. Going further back, the kings of 70s entertainment TV, Morecambe and Wise also made the switch from BBC to ITV and had the same experience. Their ITV show just didn't work.

Having a hit TV show is about a lot more than just the hosts.

Ken Bruce FTW!

Hmmm, never would have guessed that.....

Look at American Top Gear. In the first series they tried to shamelessly copy the British show and it failed miserably. They ended up dramatically changing the formula to try and make it sort-of work (even got rid of the Stig) and now at least it isn't as bad.

First time ever I agree with Higgins.

Still...if they have to keep that stupid Top Gear going, then that is the best place for Chris Evans. Only if it gets him off the radio though.

Personally, I'd let it die. Good formats don't live forever. Is there anything more moribund on TV than the late-night talk show? Other hugely successful formats have passed their sell-by date and been allowed a dignified death ... The Weakest Link; Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire?; The Big Breakfast; Big Brother...it's a long list.

True but I would say Top Gear is in a better position since the hosts are talking with Netflix about a show as well. You get on Netflix you are golden.
