They make so little money they wouldn't be paying income tax anyway. But income taxes are far from the only taxes EVERYONE pays.Illegals can't get work authorization since they have no legal status in the US, so they can't get Social Security Numbers, so they can't go on a W-2. There's no way to properly report it. Crack dealers probably have an easier time reporting their income and paying taxes! I'm sure you think they all pay taxes, too.
Or...LOL
think about where the rubber meets the road for a minute
How does that conversation go?"Hey fellow farmer dude, how about you spend more money to make less money? Please?"
Never said anything about any "loopholes." Loopholes are how you avoid paying taxes legally. I said they were committing tax evasion, which is illegal. You clearly do not understand the underlying, systemic issues and are instead repeating rhetoric used to trick voters into voting for the system to remain skewed. Wake up, do some research, and try to understand the difference between EOs and legislature. Those businesses are taking advantage because the system allows them to, not because they've found some loopholes that couldn't be easily solved by Congress.
Or...
"Hey, how about we ALL get together and stop breaking the law? Y'all know things are going to get bad since we elected Trump, right?"
I still essentially view it as a loophole. Why do you suppose that evasion isn't strictly enforced with any great frequency?Never said anything about any "loopholes." Loopholes are how you avoid paying taxes legally. I said they were committing tax evasion, which is illegal.
It's not up to me to "give it a try". I'm just making a suggestion.idk.
Give it a try.
See if phrasing like that is enough to talk someone into making less money.
It only takes one of the farmers not to play along to ruin the plan for all the rest of them.
They'd still be paying medicare and Social Security taxes. They make so little money they wouldn't be paying income tax anyway. But income taxes are far from the only taxes EVERYONE pays.
You don't want to stop employers from hiring illegals, just like Trump doesn't, either.
Followed the law. I-9 for every employee. What should they have done?
It's not up to me to "give it a try". I'm just making a suggestion.
What is clear is that the farmers knew this was coming and they did nothing about. I'm not impressed with their pissing and moaning now.
Followed the law. I-9 for every employee.
I am disappointed that there haven't been more indictments for employers who hire under the table. These farms may need a look. China owned? There are farmers and ranchers doing it right.
Followed the law. I-9 for every employee.

Then you better read what I wrote again in my post #40.You wrote what you wrote. Now you want to backpedal. Unfortunately, everyone here can read what you wrote. Own it. You don't want to stop employers from hiring illegals, just like Trump doesn't, either.
Higher grocery bills are what the MAGAs demanded.
n a stunningly swift overnight change, some Texas farm operations had to shut down after losing virtually all of their workforce, an exodus triggered by the increase in immigration raids and increased enforcement. The ripple effects of these raids are the gift that keeps on giving and will be felt nationwide: unpicked crops are now left unharvested, livestock were left untended, and rural economies are on edge.
This story isn’t just a tale of woe for Texan farms; it's a warning for American agribusiness, food prices, and the communities that keep food on our plates. So, let's examine what effect these raids have on agriculture, livestock, workers, and the American public.

Expect higher prices in grocery stores all over the country...
They can't collect Medicare and Social Security. They'd still be paying medicare and Social Security taxes.
Not if they have jobs waiting.......and if American business needs their labor why would you want to kerp them out?The point is that harsh punishment and deportation can work as deterrents for future illegals.
What a silly comment.Pretending that it doesn't because Joe Biden's wide-open border didn't work is silly and just an attempt by the left to dress up their love for the illegal invaders (and likely also their hatred of entrepreneurs and businessmen).
How do you know they weren't paying taxes on the wages? Do you have some data to support that? The employers were hiring these guys because they didn't pay taxes on the wages. So yeah, it was cheap, for the employer and employee. The taxpayer picked up the tab for unpaid taxes and social services.
Or, maybe Trump could have been proactive about the labor impacts of his policies, thought through his approach, worked with businesses to develop timelines and pathways so they could adapt with the least economic disruption. But instead he is doing the same thing he did with tariffs, swinging a sledgehammer in a china shop. Because doing the actual hard work of governing cuts into his golf and tweeting time.Multiple Texas Farms Shut Down After ‘Almost 100%’ Of Workforce Vanishes Overnight
Maybe those farmers should have been proactive about their employment practices instead of hiding their heads in the sand. I mean, it's not like they didn't know their illegal alien employees would be targeted for deportation.
Instead we have pain and no gain."No pain, no gain."
I like this idea.I would go with something like...
1. All non citizens who have entered the country illegally who self deport by exiting at a designated cross point would be given a document which would allow them, after a week or longer to use that document to gain legal entry as a non-immigrant, with permission to work, which could be extended every 3 months at an immigration office.
If I am out walking and ICE demands to see my ID, and I don't have it (I often don't), then what?2.They would be given an electronic photo ID card for identification purposes, which must be carried at all times for identification and employment purposes.
3. Any non-citizen who does not possess such ID card OR a valid passport and current visa would be subject to due process involving either a fine and/or deportation as determined by ICE.
What is the big deal about leaving and re-entering? Why is that necessary? No one can explain this to me.4. No one who entered or enters the U.S. illegally will be allowed to remain in the country until they have entered the country legally going forward.
That's fine.In addition I would place signs along the border stating that "All those who enter illegally will be sought and deported, with no exceptions."
Let's examine that. We have had extremely low unemployment for years. In order to hire people into jobs that are difficult and physicaly demanding, wages would have to go waylay up. Not a lot of people are going to pick strawberries, bent over in a hot and humid field for hours, for the same wages they could work in a nice, air-conditioned 7-11. Produce prices would skyrocket, and domestic farmers would either go out of business to foreign competition, or their crops would have to be further subsidized by the federal government to avoid food riots. As a society, we would be paying much, much more for the same work. And wages in the rest of the economy would be further driven up by the labor shortage.Obviously hire people legally allowed to work in the US.
Do you reject minimum wage, workmans comp, and tax withholding too?I reject the very idea of needing "permission" from the state to work a simple job.
Yes, that's the attitude! I got mine and **** my fellow citizens! They are like us in Tennessee. Many of us in the sticks grow our own produce and can. I get my beef from a guy across the river. And his processing is done by the Menonnites.
We got ours.
Mycroft was referring to the farmers, not the government. Here is the exchange:
To which I asked:
Meaning what should the farmers have done. I was asking this question to show that if the farmers comply with the law, they make themselves and their customers worse off.
