For 18 years, Abed El Hameed was a cornerstone of MSF’s physiotherapy department in Gaza. He was a unique and invaluable specialist in both physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Abed was dedicated not only to his patients’ physical recovery but also to restoring their hope and sense of dignity.

His loss is immense and has a tragic impact on his loved ones, MSF, and the health system in Gaza.

You can't replace people like Abed.

The vast majority of the victims in this genocide are noncombatants according to Israel's own tallies (likely a severe undercount in and of itself).

It's indeed unfortunate and tragic that civilians (and medical workers among them) lose their lives in wars, in this case a war started and kept going by an Islamist terrorist organization, but it doesn't automatically mean that they are being shot indiscriminately or that people are shooting without care for who gets hit. Israel had carried hundreds of thousands of attacks on Hamas targets in the past 2 years and obviously in the overwhelming majority of them civilians have not been killed.

Years ago I was reading about MSF in West Africa helping those in dire need during an outbreak of Ebola, at great risk to themselves.

I’ve been a fan and supporter since then.

MSF workers are incredibly brave, and go where there is need, no matter the personal dangers they may face. Those who have remained in Gaza are the best of us. Blessings on them all.
