He also said that illegal ballots shouldn't count and courts should apply the law. There are no illegal ballots here and the supreme court should stay out and let states conduct the elections like their laws require them to do.

I concur.

The "legal vote" line is mostly a dog whistle. It sounds to most people like a reasonable or innocuous statement, but to Trump's rabid base, the assumption is that there is a morass of fraudulent votes -- despite the total dearth of evidence to back those claims.
