I agree. If the story is completely true, there is a sadist element to it. It doesn't make sense to do this kind of thing, even if the kid did hit another kid.
If he beat the kid mercilessly with the cane, then they would have to find another way to punish him. And get him therapy. But none of that would involve replacing his cane with a noodle. That seems pretty twisted to me.
A child using a cane as a weapon doesn't have the right to hold onto it, no.
Again, is it dishonesty which led you to a conclusion I've directly refuted multiple times? Or do you just not possess the intellectual capability to understand a simple sentence? I'll say it again...try reading it slower, maybe you'll get it this time.Oh, so you don't think what they did was right then. Then why didn't you just say so?
You seem to be missing a lot of things. I just can't tell if it's due to your levels of honesty, integrity or intelligence.I missed the lies you mentioned.
I would assume assaulting another student would be a good start. Throw in a few alternative accommodations, and I bet you can get there pretty quick.Except you would have to justify the removal of the accommodation under the legal protections afforded to students with disabilities.
So...the truth matters. Why are so many people allergic to the truth? Why are you allergic to the truth?SO ****ING WHAT?
Yes, this is a bunch of stupid people who don't care what the truth is, they just want to blindly bash the school, regardless of the actual facts of the case. Again, maybe the school was completely in the wrong. We don't know. But that's the point...we don't know. For you to call them "sick bastards" based on evidence you don't have is stupid. Though not surprising. You know what this is?
I have plenty of high ground, but I'm not posting from high ground. I'm posting from the common sense standpoint of "how about we take the time to know what happened BEFORE we pass judgment". The fact you think having information before making a decision means someone is posting from the high ground says quite a bit about you.Oh stop it. Let's not act like you have any high ground on this subject.
Yes, some of you do. For those who don't, I'll clarify. Some of us already know your attitude toward students with disabilities.
I act like the educational system needs to quit being stupid and depriving our best students of valuable time and resources, all because we choose to set unrealistic goals and spend exorbitant amounts of money on students who will never reach those goals. You practically act like Section 504 and IDEA should be abolished.
I assume you have proof then, and not just the word of the parent? No, of course you don't, because people like you don't care about facts. No, this is another example of improperly disciplining a child.
More evidence that people will say stupid things, regardless of how ignorant it makes them sound.More evidence that there are people working in our school system that have absolutely no business doing so.
If the child is hitting another student, and has a history of doing so, it's not unjustified to take the weapon away. There are many ways to help a child with vision issues through school. I know this firsthand.Taking the kid's cane in unjustified, no matter what he did.
Do you have any evidence to the contrary? Do you really think a school is made up of evil people who want a little child stumbling through the halls just so they can laugh at them? You 'suspect'? You 'doubt'? Well, that's enough for me.
Again, is it dishonesty which led you to a conclusion I've directly refuted multiple times? Or do you just not possess the intellectual capability to understand a simple sentence? I'll say it again...try reading it slower, maybe you'll get it this time.
"No, my argument is that we don't know the real story. So it would be unwise to pass judgment on anyone."
Here, I'll post it again, because you seem to be having so much trouble understanding. Read it slowly.

Those with special needs should be provided everything they need for the best education possible. However, we should not deprive the rest of our children of the best education possible because we set unrealistic goals for those with special needs. Special needs students should be put in tracts (all students should, actually, but that's a conversation for another time) and be allowed to pursue an education which fits best for them.
I'm sorry if you have a problem with the idea of giving special needs students the best education for them and not setting goals which just sets them up to fail.

C'mon, don't say stupid things. Be better than a lot of these other posters. A school isn't going to go out of their way to humiliate a child. How utterly stupid is it to assume the same school which purchases a cane for the student would be so evil as to try and humiliate the child by making him go around the building all day with nothing and no one to guide him?
People are saying a lot of stupid things in this thread, mostly because they don't have the first damn clue as to what they are talking about. You should try to be better than that.

No silly, a unicycle. Or perhaps, a furniture dolly if they are feeling particularly magnanimous. It he's hitting kids with it, then he's punished. But that punishment isn't to take away his cane.
If another disabled child is running over kids feet with his motorized chair, and you going to take his chair? Maybe replace it with an inflatable pool toy?

Proof of what?
Awesome stories. So your inability to list these lies this blind child told, even though I keep asking you what they were, and your impressive ability to attempt to deflect away from the answers because you know there are none, are noteworthy. Thanks for the laugh.
By the way, the other posts in this thread were eye opening. I should have known you have a problem with special needs children based on your posts.
Merry Christmas!
The can was not a 'weapon'. It's his eyes. You are correct about people saying a lot of stupid things. Get a clue.
You would have to provide an accommodation of equal value, furthermore the school would have to provide the accommodation while the plan is still in force. Unilateral action of this sort isn't permitted.
I know it says a lot about me. I prefer that students like me are educated in the public school system alongside their age peers Unless you can justify otherwise through the confines of the laws that has been in this country for 40 years.
I know you haven't much respect of people like me or those with "more severe" disabilities, but we have every right to be educated like you and not isolated from society.
I know you think you're better than me and others like me, but you're not.
4. Fiddy: You don't care about education and you don't care about children.
All you care about is yourself and people like you.
You have absolutely no problem stealing a quality education for everyone
as long as we set unrealistic goals for special needs students, goals which do nothing more than set those children up to fail. You want everyone to suffer, because you had a bad experience.
The evidence from your posts does not support your statement. You're constantly wanting to deprive students of necessary resources just to pour the resources into goals which are unrealistic.I care about it quite a bit more than you give me credit for, Sly.
I have. Many times. But it doesn't change the fact your assertion that I don't care about those with special needs is patently untrue and incredibly unfair. Not so. I just have experience and passion for those like me. We tend to be mistreated frequently. Excuse me for that.
Nonsense. We have students at school who will be lucky to keep a job as a janitor or a dishwasher. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. But to set goals for these students which are clearly out of their capability, and then deprive the rest of the student population of necessary resources they could use to actually better their education, is just not right. You have legal mechanisms to prevent that. If you can't prove it to either the State or the Feds, you have no business saying they are stealing an education from anyone.
I doubt there is.I think we should put that statement into perspective for others (if there is even anyone else around to see this).
I'm saying we need to do a better job of targeting education for students in a more appropriate manner. There are students who are integrated into the regular classroom who have no business being there. You argue that students with disabilities are being educated far too frequently in the regular education environment.
As I told you before, I believe very strongly that our educational system needs to get away from the one size fits all educational model. This is what you continually fail to consider. You think I'm only talking about special needs students...I'm not. But, as it currently stands, we're putting those with very limited futures in the same classrooms as those with much brighter futures AND spending exponentially more money on them. That's asinine. In no other financial model would you knowingly throw 7-10 times as much towards a product which you know is going to bring you a negative return. But we do it in education.Even though schools have the ability to argue that without proper supports and accommodations, a student can be a detriment to the rest of the student body and receive an inadequate education, you seem to believe that's not enough.
I'm saying some need specialized schools, which they can receive a more unique education, while also not dragging down the regular classroom for the rest of students. It's a win-win in every way.Despite saying you want a quality education for all students with disabilities, you would prefer that they remain separated from the rest of the student body.
You have no idea how much time I had to waste in school, especially in elementary school. You have no idea. If I went to school for 8 hours, at least an hour or two was spent just waiting for other students. And while I went to college and achieved a near 4.0 GPA (I just got lazy in one class my last semester), my friend (who was special needs) who works as a dishwasher at the local Texas Roadhouse was having roughly 7 times more money spent on him. However, you have also stated that you were annoyed with people like us, because you (the gifted student), felt like we were ruining your education because we were in there with you.
I never said anything like that. You know as well as I do there are different levels of functioning. There are very high functioning students with special needs (for example, we had a girl graduate a few years ago who was "normal" in every way, except she was in a wheel chair...but she had no other real problems) and there are very low functioning students. We need to do a much better job of fitting ALL students to things they are good at.We should have just known our place and not have been educated alongside the rest of you, because it's so unrealistic to expect much of us in life.
It hasn't. I don't have an attitude towards this kid at all, I don't know anything about him. My point from the beginning, despite the liars who try to claim otherwise (and no, I'm not talking about you), is that we don't know what really happened. We don't have all the facts, all we have is the word of the parent. And since we don't have all the facts, it's asinine to pass judgment. So yes, Sly, I think your attitude toward students like this kid has been exaggerated.
What in the hell is the matter with these people?!!! Good grief...So the bus driver looks up in their rearview, and sees Dakota touch someone with his cane, and takes it away to replace it with a pool noodle? Are you kidding me? He/She should be fired.
