Mississippi hospital system facing 'failure' if COVID-19 cases keep going up

The only point to my questions has been to obtain an answer.
I've not seen anyone who has suffered or been treated for Covid, aside from the 3 persons in the village who probably didn't actually have a covid infection as they only spent the night in the hospital and returned home.
As I;ve said more than once now, why not send a hospital ship to Mississippi to provide some relief?
Those of you who only wish to argue, in no way are part of a solution.
I don think the hospital ship is a bad idea.....but IIRC, covid patients were not allowed.

Realistically, the first best push would be to get people to vaccinate...mask up.....social distance .

And of course figure out if the little ones can get vaxxed.

The stupidity in the country - especially early pandemic when we had a real chance of preventing the exponential nightmare we have now- was astouding. Yeah...Trump lead the stupid charge (he did a few admirable things with the Pandemic....be he was a massive net negative for his inaction and personal behaviour), but local politicians down to the individual citizen were stuck on stupid across this county. With all of our resources? Damn.

Yes, trolling. If you need to ask whether it's ICU or ER, then you don't care about the answer because 1 minute of serious research, reading any article on this thread, would tell you it's both, plus regular beds, plus severe staffing shortages in the beds that are available, and more. Would take you one minute of actually giving a damn about the answer to your question, and you'd not need to ask it.

It's not serious debate or discussion, which is why you proposed military ships as a "viable" solution to an overcrowded hospital 300 miles from any coast, or presumably hospitals clicking their heals to expand beds in a few days, and the staff to man those extra beds, as if by magic, while giving zero thought to the immense practical issues involved in those 'viable' solutions.

The best solution is what it's always been - vaccinations. What we know from the data is nearly everyone clogging up those hospitals didn't get the vaccine. It's borderline criminal that state leaders in those states aren't publicly begging people to get vaccinated, every day, more than once per day. Their embrace of right wing bullshit, or just as bad IMO, staying silent about it, for political reasons is bearing the fruit we're seeing, which is a bunch of needless suffering and death by their citizens. Our governor fired the state's vaccine coordinator for....pushing vaccines, including of those under 18. What an asshole, and an incompetent. The legislature threw up a bunch of arbitrary barriers to COVID vaccination programs, and those decision will kill people.
I see now, this threads purpose is to denigrate those who haven't gotten the vaccine.
Which of the vaccines have been approved by the FDA?
Which vaccine did you get?

NYC and California had no problem asking the Federal government to ride to their rescue, and getting it, why shouldn't Mississippi?
Why is Mississippi so bad in football? When is the last time they won the SEC? Is the problem coaching? Why aren't there deep water docks for navy hospital ships 300 miles from the coast? Failure of planning? Why is there a shortage of doctors and nurses in Mississippi? Why didn't they expand their medical schools in anticipation of this event? Why not graduate more nurses and let them take care of the flood? Is there any harm in unqualified people giving medical assistance? What's 9 x 25.8? What's the vaccination rate in Mississippi? Why is it so low? Did Trump get vaccinated? How about Don Jr.? What vaccine did they get? Is Melania modeling these days?

No, what I said is "It's borderline criminal that state leaders in those states aren't publicly begging people to get vaccinated, every day, more than once per day."

I don't blame the people so much as leaders who KNOW BETTER embracing a bunch of CT bullcrap to spread fear or distrust of the vaccine. They got what they wanted, which is a low vaccination rate. They have cheered this when they thought no one was looking and in some cases when they were looking, and the fruits of that are what we are witnessing. It's a massive failure of leadership on the part of the right wing.

What the leadership should be doing, every day, is pushing vaccines because it will SAVE LIVES. Now they have the evidence of their leadership in plain sight - disaster. So they need to recognize that and do what they can to change minds, those of their voters.

And you know which have been fully approved, and if not, use Google. The answer is 10 seconds away. So why troll that post with your disingenuous question? Make your point.

As to which one I got, none of your damn business, in large part because why in the hell does it matter to anything which one I got? I was vaccinated the very first minute it was made available to me. Beyond that, why do you care? Oh, right, you don't.

9x25.8 is 232.2, and if I knew the answers to your other questions I would tell you, though I don't know.

Yes. We thought we were going to have to spell it out.

Solution to getting FDA approval?
My solutions acknowledge we're in a pandemic. I don't have a solution that allows the freedom of normal activity.
My solutions would be aided by FDA approval but aren't necessary.
It's simple to see the difference it makes when you handle this pandemic with emergency action over concerns of personal freedoms when you look at Vermont vs Florida.

Calculating your freedoms during a pandemic wouldn't be my first concern because this is temporary. It's an emergency. It's like a hurricane. Conspiracy that it's the left trying to use the "flu" to control people into the future after the emergency was over by hyping it up wouldn't enter my calculation.

This isn't just about one state or one country, it's a problem that the world is having and takes action which includes that thought process. This is an emergency which evolves and therefore relies on the whole world.

What do you mean, "what other cures are there?"
If this is the opening to another retarded anti-vaccine screed, save your breath, you might need it when they put you on a ventilator.,
It went over your head. Have a think.

And which vaccine?
You keep asking the same question over and over. What does it matter really? Without any doubt, the majority have received one of the two mRNA vaccines, either Pfizer or Moderna.

Do we realize that many people are dying needlessly that we don't hear about because they aren't in the Covid statistics? They are the men and women going through chemotherapy and unable to take any of the vaccines. They are people who had their open heart surgery delayed month after month because of the pandemic. It's people with certain types of auto-immune disorders whose doctors don't recommend the vaccine for them. So people die of kidney failure, cancer, cardiac failure or from delays in medical treatment and all because the hospitals are overwhelmed, short staffed, short of supplies and filled with patients who contracted a virus that could kill them before their own medical condition does. However, their death certificate does not give Covid-19 as the cause of death. Yet, indirectly, it most certainly is a contributor.

I don't know if the story is true, or if got sanitized or scrubbed, but early on around April 2020, I remember seeing
something about Singapore Police shooting some anti-maskers.
I'll keep looking for it.
Meanwhile here's a Singapore news clip about the mask orders.

The idea of shooting anti-maskers sounds awful.
Meanwhile, here's the data:

1628816987555.webp

I get the impression that Singapore takes enforcement very seriously, even if they didn't actually shoot anyone.
We, on the other hand, allow clowns to take over.

Here's OUR data:

1628817681260.webp

We should have taken mask enforcement much more seriously from the beginning.
Maybe not shooting people, but we basically did almost nothing to achieve strict enforcement and that has
emboldened the anti-vax/anti-mask clowns to the point where they are the ones committing violent acts instead.

I'm sure stricter enforcement measures have been discussed at some point but we're considered counterproductive. It appears they gone a different direction and started using fear as a motivator.

It worked initially because no one knew anything about this virus, plus the news coming out of China was horrifying. People were convinced this was another no MERS or SARS.

Although people began to realize it wasn't another MERS , they still remained cautious and followed CDC guidelines throughout the lockdowns, and masking guidelines after

But eventually people started to notice the inconsistencies. Like the US Navy hospital ship that was anchored in the harbor never to be used. That also goes for all of the field hospitals set up around the US.

People started realizing hospitals in their cities weren't overwhelmed, and in fact most remained empty

The ventilator crisis that just faded away. We were told we were going to run out of ventilators unless thousands were manufactured immediately. So they were, and I'm sure they're sitting in some warehouse somewhere gathering dust.

And then there were the brazen fear mongering, like when CBS used footage of a crowded ER in Italy in a story about NY Hospitals

Or when CNN did their ridiculous story on Chris Cuomo's and his totally staged 14 day self isolation. What a joke.

Or when Gov Newsome was caught maskless at a restaurant with several other maskless people.
0CAFA95AD4AC4EAAAA06BDD31B3EE452.webp

And while vaccine and mask mandates are being discussed, thousands of Covid-19 positive illegal aliens are being tested and then bussed to US towns and dropped off.

The list goes on. You're frustrated to the point of considering violence as a solution because people are refusing to play along by buying into fear mongering

Speaking only for myself, asking a question over and over becomes necessary when trying to obtain an answer to a question. And yes, it really matters to some of us, due to age and other health issues. From what I can find, NONE of the vaccines have yet been thoroughly tested and and are only approved for emergency use, therefore the possible side effects become a significant factor in making a choice of which, if any, are worth taking the known risks. Where I live, neither the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines are widely available and at high cost when they are, and even then difficult to get due to where they exist.

Yes. We thought we were going to have to spell it out.
It helps to know who you can engage in rational conversation, and who you cannot.

That applies to the flu too, but according to the CDC, only 45% of Americans get their yearly flu shot.
The only way we'll see anywhere near a 100% vaccination rate is if Covid-19 mutates into something like MERS, or SARS, which is highly doubtful.
You're not going to convince anyone to get their vaccination by trying to shame them or insult them, etc.
A LOT of Americans simply do not trust the Govt or it's institutions. Want to get vaccination rates up, address that lack of trust
The Biden administration does need to address this and fast
Hmm.. I don't see how the government can address this when it was the previous government that told people that all the experts recommending Vaccinations and masks were " idiots" .

Mississippi hospital system facing 'failure' if COVID-19 cases keep going up
https://www.clarionledger.com/story...ederal-help-amid-covid-19-resurge/5542846001/

Mississippi's overflowing hospitals due to an influx of COVID-19 patients and a shortage of health care workers may soon crush the state's hospital system, prompting state officials to call for help from the federal government.

Mississippi is averaging 2,700 new coronavirus infections a day and the number of patients needing intensive care and ventilators has surpassed the worst of the pandemic during the winter months.

"The rate of testing positive and rate of hospitalizations that we are seeing, if we continue that trajectory within the next 5 to 7 to 10 days I think we're going to see failure of the hospital system of Mississippi," said Alan Jones, associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs and COVID-19 clinical response leader at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, on Wednesday.

It's not that there are no available beds in Mississippi, Jones said. There just aren't enough health care workers to appropriately staff them, he said.

From Aug. 4 to 10, the Mississippi State Department of Health reported 18,821 new COVID-19 cases. Nearly 1,400 people were hospitalized statewide with COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, with 388 in intensive care units and 249 on ventilators.

On Wednesday, the University of Mississippi Medical Center began preparing a floor of one of its garages to serve as a 50-bed field hospital to treat inpatient and outpatient COVID-19 patients. Those receiving outpatient care who are COVID-19 positive will be able to receive monoclonal antibody treatment — a treatment that lessens serious outcomes from the virus.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to Dr. Jones who heads Mississippi's largest trauma hospital, the next 7 to 10 days will be critical for this hospital. If Covid cases continue to rise requiring more to be hospitalized, they will see the collapse of the hospital. This has been my biggest fear and my most frequent warning regarding this pandemic, that our hospital systems are in danger of failing. We can only pray to God that this isn't going to happen in Mississippi. As Dr. Jones stated, if there were a big bus accident full of kids, they wouldn't have the resources to treat them.
I saw that announcement and a similar one from a Dallas County (TX) medical professional. The south is in deep trouble. They made disease mitigation a political issue and look what happened. I feel bad for them, I still have many friends and former colleagues in southern states.

Part of the solution is for the governors of red states to pass along as much science-based information as possible to their citizenry to encourage them to get vaccinated instead of continuing to be skeptical about it, getting their states into huge COVID trouble, and then expecting the federal govt to ride to their rescue.
It's been tried. Not working.

Maybe there's a need for a Liberal and a Conservative variant of the vaccine?
Why do you think that? Do you wish there was a vaccine that would give you immunity to liberals? 🥱 No offense, but there are bigger things to worry about right now than being able to show the lower half of your face. Fighting a war against an invisible enemy is hard enough. Dead weight is just that, dead weight.

I seem to recall Liberals claiming they wouldn't get the vaccine if Trump claimed it to be safe, and now it appears that Conservatives are just doing the same.
We need to cease making everything a political issue and try to learn how to work together on resolving important issues.

This is not true at all, just about the only part of the country not hit as hard with the delta strain is the northeast where states such as NY, NJ. Ct., RI, Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine have between a 67% to 74% vaccination rate in their states. These are also states that have had mask mandates in place. The numbers of delta variant infections are far below those states whose vaccination rates fall well below the 70% level and have no mask mandates in place. States worst hit like Florida, Texas and California all have vaccine success rates below 70%, some southern states have a rate of vaccines no higher than 50% and have no mask mandates, even for children who are being affected by this delta strai

Obviously it is working in some states, those that have a high number of their population already vaccinated.
