The bottom line is that the final report is inconclusive and are not ruling out 3rd parties either.

For those of you that havent seen the documentary or havent read up on it, the theories basically boils down to 3:

1. Pilot suicide:
- The captain of the airliner locked out the first officer from the cockpit, turned off the transponders, then changed heading into the Indian Ocean and deliberately crashed the plane.
- The captain had a flight simulator at home, and did log a journey using the same route.
- However, there were no indications he was suicidal.

2. Russian hijack
- 3 passengers were confirmed Russian nationals.
- There is a unlocked hatch in between the cockpit and 1st class that leads into the heart of the plane's electronics center. Transponders, and everything could be shut off or changed settings by accessing that compartment.
- Speculation that the Russians did it is because it happened a few days after their 2014 invasion of Crimea as a disinformation campaign.

3. American shootdown
- This is the wildest conspiracy theory of all, but a French intel agent told this to a grieving man who lost his wife and children in that flight. A reporter vetted him and said he was a reliable though anonymous source.
- 2 USAF AWACS were airborne and in the area
- The motive was that the plane carried sensitive electronics that was being smuggled into China (one cargo crate in the manifest was unlabeled and not X-Rayed), and US was tasked to bring the plane down.

What do you think?

My guess would be Pilot suicide.

AWACs are designed for intelligence gathering and generally are not used for combat. They can jam electronics and communications; they would not be able to shut down the transponder on MH370 (causing it to disappear from radar). This would have to have been done at the source (aboard the aircraft) and would require a working knowledge of the aircraft, the equipment, its location, and how to access the compartment where it is stored. This information is not shared with the general public for safety and security reasons.

There was an explosion seen by an oil platform in the area, and because there was a debris field seen in the area after daybreak, it makes sense that the plane was destroyed. If I were the Malaysians, I would want to be the first to search the debris field for evidence. It seems to me the Malaysians made-up the story of the plane turning around and then turning south just past the contenant. This is likely a cover story designed to divert the people and the press from the truth. It also gave them time to search the area where the plane was actually destroyed for any evidence without the press being involved. The explosion and the debris pattern would be consistent with a bomb on board the aircraft; however, it could have just as easily been an accidental explosion.

In any event, we will never really know what happened to MH370. It was a tragedy, it should not have happened, and those people should still be alive.

The idea of an AWACS being able to intercept anything is silly. It flies at airliner speeds

From the docu it claimed that AWACS have the ability to jam civilian aircraft transponders. I dont know if this is true or not.

According to the docu the AWACS vectored in a fighter aircraft to take it out.

There was only one Russian national on MH 370 - Nikolai Brodskii, aged 43, seat 3K. Married father of 2 from Irkutsk. He was a scuba diving instructor headed home from Bali.

Netflix "documentaries" are mind rot.
His diving could just be a cover story though. Theres plenty of instances with Russian agents traveling abroad using false identities.

Also, two Iranians were onboard, and they were using stolen passports.

dont forget that Moscow lies on industrial scale...

This is possible but there is no evidence of fighter aircraft in the area at that time. If anything, those AWACs were probably engaged in intelligence-gathering operations.

Could be.

Likely GRU or FSB.

GRU operative. Good point.

The Iranians aboard the aircraft illegally do not surprise me. They are not tolerated in many places. They were probably Vibok scum going to a secret meeting with the Chinese.

and dont forget Moscow close cooperation with Iran and Assad terrorist states

There are far more instances of Russians traveling abroad using their actual identities.

As I recall, the Iranians were fingered early in the investigation, but were cleared.

I think the most telling event was that after their last communication at 1719:13Z, someone using the co-pilot's cell phone attempted a call at 1752:27Z that didn't connect. As the radar indicated the plane was being actively controlled at the time (1752:31Z radar had plane at 10nm S of Penang Island, Hdg. 261°, Spd. 525 kts, Alt. 44,700'), and the co-pilot probably wasn't complicit in re-directing the flight (why disable communications if he intended to communicate?), this is probably a strong indication that he was locked out of the cockpit at that time.

This is a valid point. It points the finger back at the captain of the plane; however, my understanding is that he was cleared.

I wonder if the failure of his call to go through was in any way connected to the fact that the plane disappeared from radar (communications being jammed)?

I think the lack of cell phone connectivity was more environmental than anything else - according to the Accident Report, when they tested cell phone connectivity, they found it was difficult to maintain successful connections at altitudes above 8000', and the highest altitude that they were able to maintain a successful connection was 20,000'. So with the plane being at 44,700' when the co-pilot's phone attempted to place the call, it was probably remarkable that the ground tower was even able to register the attempt at all.
